Left To Right Xena, Hero and Ditch. I love all three of these babies but a little more about Hero and Ditch. They are awesome dogs who found themselves without a home. Hero came to me 3 years ago as "Aggressive" Ditch found his was to us, via an good ole fashion "Dog Dump." Both of these males are now phenomenal family dogs and had the previous owners understood them or tried by way of a balanced trainer they may have kept thier babies!! Now trained these dogs are amazing companions! Please reach out to a trainer if you are having behaviorial issues with your pooch. You would be surprised at the knowledge that a good trainer will provide.

The Weather is HOT make sure your dogs are NOT!

The summers in Texas come with Scorching heat which could prove to be a harsh environment for any animal. Please keep your pets hydrated, happy, and healthy this summer!

As well with the 4th of July right around the corner please take extra precautions so we have no lost pets this independence day!

It slithers, it moves quickly, it hisses, it spits, it strikes, it rattles how enticing for a playful puppy, a laid-back house pet or high-strung working dog. Here are a few things that are very easy to do to minimize the risk of a snake bite or pets getting bitten.
1. Don’t let the grass get too high, it reduces visibility of the snake and invites them to come hunt the other rodents and lizards that are seeking the tall grass for food and shelter.
2. Get the Rattlesnake Vaccine, this can be administered at your vet. This buys your pet time to get to the vet to be treated for the snake bite.
3. Do Snake Avoidance Training with your dogs. The purpose of this training is to make them fearful of snakes, ALL SNAKES! If your dog willingly avoids snakes, I will count that a win, win! How about you?

Snake Avoidance Training with United K9 Academy - $250 for 3 private lessons.

Hello All, I need your help on this one. Please forward and reshare.

About a week ago a former employee happened upon a beautiful female husky running on CR 236 near the cemetary in Liberty Hill. I have posted in surrounding towns and I'm going to expand my area to see if we can't find the owners but sadly I suspect she may have been dumped.

Here is what I know after having her for a week. She is intact, and about 18 months old, great with all dogs, super sweet, very gentle and loving. UTD on all shots and Wedneday we are having her tested for Heartworm. Her obedience is not bad but could use some improvement on recall, which intead to shore up. I need to find a home for this sweet girl and I'm hoping there is a Husky lover out there that will Foster to Adopt, that way we can continue to try to find her owners. I have been calling her Alaska.

"The dignified Dalmatian, dogdom's citizen of the world, is famed for his spotted coat and unique job description. During their long history, these "coach dogs" have accompanied the horse-drawn rigs of nobles, gypsies, and firefighters. The Dalmatian's delightful, eye-catching spots of black or liver adorn one of the most distinctive coats in the animal kingdom. The Dalmatian was originally bred to guard horses and coaches, and some of the old protective instinct remains. Reserved and dignified, Dalmatians can be aloof with strangers and are dependable watchdogs. Dalmatians are bright, loyal, and loving house dogs. They are strong, active athletes with great stamina'a wonderful partner for active families."
(Source: AKC)

Dalmatians have a bad reputation when it comes to their temperment. These dogs have a past history of being bad with children and/or over protective of their humans but from our experience as long as this breed gets proper activity output and mental stimulation, as well as socialization from a young age. You will have a fun loving pet instead of a guard dog!

Training dogs with distractions is an important aspect of their obedience and behavior. Distractions, such as other animals, loud noises, and treats, are common in a dog's environment. Teaching a dog to listen and follow commands despite these distractions can improve their behavior and reliability. Patience and persistence are crucial when training dogs with distractions, as it may take time for them to learn how to focus in challenging situations. With consistent training and positive reinforcement, most dogs can learn to listen and follow commands even in distracting environments, making them better companions in various situations.

Barrier Reactivity, What is it?

Barrier Reactivity is a very common issue for dogs all over the world, it can come in different circumstances such as Leash Reactivity, Fence Fighting and Crate reactivity.

Dogs get excited when they see other dogs and sometimes when they can't get to those other dogs because of a barrier (Leash, Fence, Crate etc...) That excitement can quickly turn into frustration leading to the reactivity that everyone struggles with. Now with proper training you can control that excitement and hence the frustration.

Keep in mind not all reactivity stems from this but it is a fairly common cause of leash reactivity and fence fighting

What Colors Do Dogs See? Because dogs' eyes only have two types of cones (just 20 percent of the cones in human eyes), their color spectrum is limited to shades of gray, brown, yellow and blue. This is called dichromatic vision, which is similar to humans who experience red-green. As a result, dogs are red-green colour blind.

Anyone looking for a shepherd?

This is Obie he is a fantastic pup that we trained a little over a year ago his family has recently gotten bigger and the owners have their hands full with new twins and they just dont have the time and energy Obie needs more mental and physical stimulation.

Name: Obie
DOB: 4/4/2022 (2 years old)
Breed: German Shephard (AKC certified)
Neutered: March 21, 2023
Professional training: United K9 Academy
Weight: 95 pounds

Vet: Firehouse Animal Health Center
(512) 980-2080

-Up to date on shots
-Heartworm negative
-Simparica Trio (heartworm, flea, and tick prevention)

Obie is a big love bug. He always wants to be with his humans. He enjoys walks, swimming in the lake, chew toys, sticks, baths and being blow dried (he will not let you touch his nails for a trim) , treats, and car rides.

He has experience with babies and young children. Although most of his experience with babies and young children have been positive. He has nipped at my 7 year old son during play time. He has no problem with men and women.
He has experience around cats, dogs, a tortoise, and chickens.
He is reactive towards unfamiliar dogs, but will be accepting of other dogs he lives with after introduction and boundaries.
He is comfortable around familiar cats, but will stalk them.
He is comfortable with our outdoor tortoise and has not shown aggression towards it.
He has seen our chickens through their fencing but has not been allowed to interact face to face with them. He will most likely attack them if he gains access.
Obie is a very sensitive dog. He deserves home that will give him a lot of attention, with a large yard/property. He is fully potty trained and non-destructive in the home.

The Blue Lacy, an uncommon dog breed that has made its appearance in Texas in the mid 1800s due to the Lacy brothers settling in Burnet county in the granite hills.

The Lacy family history states that the Blue Lacy originates from, grey hounds, scent hounds and coyotes creating a fantastic Hunting/Herding dog. Their original purpose according to the NKC was to hunt Boar.

While known to be sensitive dogs Modern day trappers use Lacy’s all over the world for all sorts of tasks. They have a nose that can track blood better than most and the speed of a greyhound to back it.

These fantastic little animals made their name as the state dog of Texas and continue to grow recognition every day.

Many of us at United K9 Academy in Liberty Hill have a lot of experience this these dogs as we have bred 3 litters and own a couple ourselves.

(Here's my 2 cents - Patrick Carrier)

While the Lacy dogs are recorded as “Fairly easy to handle” They are not for the faint of heart they are high energy working dogs that without purpose and proper exercise can quickly become something much different than “easy to handle” I love my lacy to death but she is a lot of dog to be crammed into a 40lb speedster!!

Pack Leadership is one of if not THE most important thing when training a dog.

If you are not “Pack Leader” then that means your dog is. Sometimes dogs will still listen when you are not a leader of the pack but that listening will be selective.

When you give a command to a dog, they should listen to it every time without question even if you have to say it more than once or make them do it

If you aren't following through with every command given to them, as a result they will start to learn that they can win against you. Wetherr in place or recall or even them barking. They will start to ignore you if it doesn't benefit them.

Even one time of giving up can change the household so much. No matter how much your dog pushes you have to stand behind your command. If you put them into a down 37 times and they get up everytime and you give up then they realize that 37 times is all it takes for you to leave them alone.

What is the relevence of teaching place?

Place is one of our favoite commands to teach a dog we use place to mark a location on a seperate surface where we want the dog to go (EX, Place Cot, Dog Bed, Tree stump)

Place can teach a dog impulse control which is helpful in almost all aspects of your daily life!
Got a door bolter? : Impulse control will help
Counter Surfer? : Impulse Control!!!
Your Dogs a jumper? : Impulse Control!

We are by no means saying that if you teach your dog how to place it will immediatley fix all these issues but having good Impulse Control will take you one step further into advanced obedience!

DID YOU KNOW ?

🐕🐾🐕🐾🐕🐾🐕🐾🐕🐾🐕🐾🐕🐾🐕🐾🐕🐾🐕🐾🐕🐾🐕🐾🐕🐾🐕🐾🐕🐾🐕🐾🐕🐾🐕🐾🐕🐾

The Doberman Pinscher, A Large, Dependable, and (Mostly) Fearless breed. These K9s are renowned for their capability as working dogs. These Animals are described best as Nobleman of the dog world. With their Sleek Physique and Keen Intelligence, they are capable of anything.
The Doberman Pinscher was first bred in Germany in the 19th century. The goal of this dog was to protect Tax Collectors because their reception was hostile. Louis Dobermann bred the first of these beautiful animals as a less refined but larger version of the Doberman we know today.
The breed was refined down the line but kept the name of its original breeder (minus the 2nd N) These dogs have a history that stretches from military work to therapy dogs. Truly a versatile breed.
If you’re thinking of getting a Doberman, just remember that while they are fantastic family dogs and great with kids, they are also working dogs that need mental and physical stimulation. Without it they could be a little more than you bargained for.
