Although this isn’t parrot related it was too cute not to share. Our 8 year old fell asleep on the couch and our dogs and cat all decided the were going to try and sleep on the couch next to him. We love all animals feathered and furry in this home.

Our boy Brunswick. He is such the distinguished gentleman. He didn’t want to hang out with me for two long though. His “wife” should be laying eggs any day now. I can’t wait to see what this clutch of “grandfids” will look like.

We have some brand new additions to our flock guys!!!! Please excuse the one cage, we were only planning on getting 4 but I wasn’t able to choose between them all so everyone had to come home with us. So while we are waiting on some new cages they will have to make due with an old cage I had kept in the attic. (Believe it or not it’s the cage that our rescue Dove Jack Jack had spent the majority of his life in before he came to us, and I think it’s too small for the parrotlets.). So right now they are still freaked out but I think I will just keep sitting right here admiring them. I’m in love already, now we need to come up with names.

Don’t get me wrong, we love all our pets. However, there is something I find so special about bonding with a bird. Cats and dogs have been domesticated for centuries. We have literally changed the course of their DNA for them to have a sense of loyalty towards us. This is not the case with birds. Yes we have been having them as pets for years but we never intentionally bred them to want to have humans as their companions. This means that when a bird develops a friendship with you that bird has CHOSEN you. Not from any genetic sense of obligation but because it WANTS to be with you. To me this is one of the most special relationships that any human can develop with an animal.

We welcomed our newest pair at Olive Branch Aviary. This stunning pearl and white faced pearl pair will hopefully give us some equally stunning babies this season. Now to choose some names for our newest feathered family members. 🤔
