While many people might think that veterinary technicians primarily just "play with animals" or hold pets during exams, the reality is quite different! Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs) are essential members of the veterinary team, performing a wide range of medical tasks that ensure our furry friends receive the best care possible.
What LVTs Actually Do:
🐱 Patient Assessment: Taking vital signs like temperature, heart rate, and respiration.
🔬Laboratory Work: Collecting blood, urine, and other samples for analysis.
💉 Medication Administration: Giving injections, oral medications, and topical treatments as prescribed.
🩺 Surgical Assistance: Preparing instruments, assisting during surgeries, and monitoring anesthesia.
🩻 Radiography: Taking and developing X-rays.
🐶 Client Education: Explaining treatment plans and post-operative care to pet owners.
🦷 Dental Procedures: Performing dental cleanings under veterinarian supervision.
🚑 Emergency Care: Providing initial stabilization for critically ill animals.
LVTs are highly skilled professionals who undergo extensive training and are required to be licensed in most jurisdictions. They act as the "eyes and ears" of the veterinarian, monitoring patient health and communicating vital information. Their compassionate care makes a significant difference, especially in stressful situations.
