Latest post is live!

In 1853 a Frenchman named Alexis De Tocqueville published a book entitled “Democracy in America.” Following the French Revolution he traveled to the US and all across the US as it existed then to discover the evolution of democracy. We are grateful to our local Veterinary community for all of the information and updates on the spread of Pigeon Fever in our area.

At this time LEC is NOT AFFECTED.

However, due to the spread of this disease from now until 30 days or so after our first hard frost set in we will not be accepting any haul-in riders, or clients for farrier work. Horses seeking to move into the barn will need a current health check and will be quarantined away from the rest of the herd.

Thank you so much for your understanding.

Fall is truly here tonight. I close the big barn doors and assure everyone that we’re not shutting the world out so much as we are opening ourselves to the time of year when we keep each other warm. 🍁

🍂Fall is here! And so is new blogpost!

In my  opinion there is no better time of day to achieve the sensation of existing within the grandeur of the Universe (if you’re into that sort of thing) than dawn. This morning I walked outside with my cup of coffee just as the fiery orange hues of the sun began to bleed across the horizo

Greetings all! While we are surviving this evening’s severe weather, all the horses are safe and sound we have lost power. Hopefully to be restored soon. Stay safe out there!

We are so happy that these triple digits are short lived. As a reminder to all, be kind to your horses in these extreme heat spells, they get hotter faster and cool down slower than humans do!

Here at LEC we do our best every day to ensure the comfort and health of our horses. During heatwaves we make changes to our routines to keep both horse and human safe.

For all those wondering, LEC and all our beautiful horses are safe and sound after last nights awful weather.

Information for people interested in moving hay:

Cutting, drying and baling hay is 💯 dependent on weather. The hay must dry, and be put up as dry as possible so we have to cut and be ready to move when the weather is clear. Thus the origin of the turn of phrase “make hay when the sun shines”

Times: probably later in the afternoon and beginning of evening to about 8 or 9pm or whenever all of the hay is stacked.

So what I normally do is find a group of people interested and then because of schedules and life and the weather dependent nature of hay I will call or text as I know when things are happening and whomever can make it is who gets the job. Once the hay is cut, we have a 24 hour window in which I contact people interested in moving hay.

They will need leather or any kind of work gloves and a water bottle.

At this point in time I don’t know the exact day I will need people. The field will *probably* get cut next week, maybe over the weekend. It depends on my hay people and their schedule.

The risks of riding are real, and we don't often think about them when we are mounting up or simply working around horses. We are pleased to see the adoption of helmets and other safety gear for riders of all kinds.

All students enrolled in our riding program are required to wear a helmet and all riders in the barn are encouraged to do so.

NPR's A Martínez speaks with event rider Jonathan Holling about safety concerns and measures in equestrian sports, which are a leading cause of traumatic brain injuries for U.S. athletes.

Wishing everyone a safe and Happy Memorial Day. Grateful to those who have served. 🇺🇸
