Already having two large Newfoundlands who were great friends, we wanted to add another small dog for our Havanese Cooper. Having lost two dogs to cancer and heart disease I was on a search for a breed that is bred to be as healthy as possible, has a sweet and playful temperament, is intelligent, easy to train and strong and compact. One day a friend who also had Newfoundlands shared with me that
they were excited to have discovered a dog that was all of that and more--the Malagasy Coton de Tulear. I began reading everything I could get my hands on about this "Royal Dog of Madagascar." I learned that they had all the qualities I was looking for and also were known to have charming, clown-like personalities, the energy to keep up on a long hike, the ability to adapt to different scenarios and much more. Most importantly the club I was going to join as a code of ethics breeder had strict rules for breeding which has enabled the breed to maintain it's reputation for excellent health and well being. Believing I had found the right dog for our family we set out to find our soon-to-be new addition and in the summer of 2012 we brought home Crabapple Crossing's "What's Up Doc" a/k/a Bunny. Within hours we were in love with our Bunny who was so funny, spunky, bright and easily adjusted to living with three other dogs, both big and small. As Bunny grew so did our passion for the breed and we knew we wanted to help bring new Cotons into the world to help others find the same joy as we have. Unable to wait a minute longer for one of Bunny's puppies to call our own, we added a black and white Coton, Sophie. In the years since then we have grown to have 6 happy and healthy Cotons! I look forward to talking with you and sharing more about our girls, our boys, and anything and everything about the Malagasy Coton de Tulear!
