Many of us are not aware of this. If you have a pacemaker, you can donate to animals in need. Accordingly to information provided by Humane Society of Sandusky County,

“Veterinary cardiologists in the United States can implant pacemakers in dogs and cats to treat abnormal heart rhythms. Some veterinary cardiologists who use pacemakers include:
Dr. Ryan Fries: At the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Urbana
Dr. David Sisson: One of the first veterinary cardiologists to implant pacemakers in dogs at the University of Illinois
John MacGregor: A veterinary cardiologist at VetSpecialists.com who specializes in pacemaker therapy.”

Did you know that if you have a pacemaker, you can include it in your Will to be donated to a dog in need after you pass away?
Although pacemakers cannot be used for another human, they can help dogs with heart problems and potentially save their lives. You can arrange for the pacemaker to be sent to a vet of your choice. Many pacemakers are simply thrown away, and dogs may die because people do not know about this option. Donating the pacemaker can even save the dog's owner the cost of a new one, which can sometimes make a crucial difference in affording life-saving treatment.
How to donate? Update your will: Leave instructions to have your pacemaker removed and sent to a veterinary clinic of your choice
Ask your doctor to save the pacemaker: When your pacemaker is being replaced or upgraded, ask your doctor to save it for donation
Contact your local vet: Confirm that they would be able to use the pacemaker.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and it’s crucial to recognize the intersection between domestic violence and animal abuse. Many survivors of domestic violence have reported living in cars with their pets rather than leaving them behind.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​We need more pet-friendly domestic violence shelters to ensure more survivors and pets find safety and freedom from violence.
