We are incredibly excited to introduce you to the newest members of our RSF family! This adoption is extra special as it has connections to one of first adoptions.
Meet the Machners - a family of four: Trent (Dad), Beth (Mom), Nora 8.5 yrs old, & James 5.5 yrs old. James was born w/ an ultra rare neurodegenerative disorder and has been on hospice care w/ Gilchrist Kids since he was 2.5 years old.
The first kid ever diagnosed w/ this disorder, he’s incredibly medically complex, w/ seizures, central line TPN, suction machine, pulse ox and is non-mobile & non-verbal.
Through Gilchrist, they learned of the Gonzales family, whose daughter, Amanda, was part of their hospice program. They learned of how Parker was adopted through us for their older daughter, Sarah, and how much comfort & joy he’s provided to them all, especially since Amanda’s passing in 2023.
Much like the Gonzales family, they were hoping to match a dog with their daughter, Nora, to provide her companionship and love. They also believed a dog would provide comfort to the whole family & help them to get outside more as they were very home-bound.
Through a local rescue, they met Mae, and they knew she was a perfect fit! Mae is a 3 yr old, compact (40 lbs) mixed breed ball of happiness and love. She’s the perfect mix of playful and cuddly, and the perfect size for Nora.
Nora & Mae are already bonding, and can often be found side by side, w/ Mae always keeping a paw on her girl. Nora is excited to work on training Mae, helping her learn to walk well on leash and not chase after squirrels. They already have a training plan and we look forward to lots of updates!
Thank you to all who made this adoption possible, from Gilchrist Kids for trusting us to help this amazing family, to our amazing friend, teacher Lori Raxenberg, who generously donated Mae’s crate.
Our biggest, heartfelt thanks to the Gonzales family, who continue to inspire so many. Amanda’s gifts of love continue, first Parker and now Mae, as without Amanda none of this would have been possible. We are honored and grateful to continue to share her memory with all of you.
Welcome to the RSF family, Machners!
