We have a special, oversized Featured Foster for Foster Friday.

Meet Lara Croft, a gentle giant of a mastiff mix looking for a soft spot to land furever.

šŸ’œ 4 yo Lara Croft is a gentle & affectionate 106 lb lady. A big gal, but sheā€™s so easygoing & relaxed that you barely feel her at the end of the leash. She enjoys taking slow walks, stopping frequently to sniff around and get pets. Sheā€™s very easy to guide & doesnā€™t pull or react to cars, people, bikes, dogs, or rabbits.

šŸ› While in her temp foster home, she has been potty trained, loves cuddling, being bathed, brushed, and playing with toys occasionally. She was initially slower to warm up to her foster dad but quickly bonded w/ him after spending some time together, often walking beside him and seeking out cuddles/ lap time on the floor.

šŸ„° Lara is a true ā€œVelcro dog,ā€ always wanting to be close to her humans. She loves to nuzzle your hand for more pets, enjoys long belly rubs, and gives gentle ā€œdog hugsā€ by placing her head on your shoulder or her paw on your arm. Though initially shy, she warms up with time and patience, rewarding you with her deep affection.

šŸ¶ She loves massages & being brushed, finding comfort in these gentle interactions. Though sheā€™s curious, sheā€™s also cautious & moves at her own pace. She is not yet ready for crates, stairs, or car rides, and may get anxious during new experiences. However, w/ time and gentle encouragement, sheā€™s slowly adjusting to her new environment.

At the shelter, Lara has been overwhelmed when interacting in a group of other dogs, but gave appropriate signals to let them know she was uncomfortable. Given these observations, we believe sheā€™d prefer a gentle, respectful pal in a future home who can give her space when needed.

Lara Croft is available immediately for foster, rescue or better yet adoption to her furever home!

Please contact BARCS for more info on this amazing gal! šŸ¶ā¤ļøšŸ¾ email: [email protected]

Our Featured Foster Friday pup comes courtesy of our friends at BARCS!!

šŸ¾šŸ¶ADOPT MR. MAGOO!! He will be the right doggy for YOU!!!šŸ¶šŸ¾

Mr. Magoo is 6 years young and quite handsome! With his puppy days behind him, he is totally chill and easy to manager, as well as a total love bug. Heā€™s a good listener with good manners on leash during walks and in the house.

And donā€™t let his sad eyes fool you. He is a happy and friendly dog. He wags his tail - A LOT!! He will be a great addition to your family!!ā¤ļøšŸ¶šŸ¾

šŸ’¤He is crate trained! He loves his crate and is so comfortable in there, he sleeps in it at night without the door closed. During the day, when he wants to rest, heā€™ll go in all on his own and tuck himself in for a nap.

šŸš½He is potty trained and has never had an accident in his foster home! When he needs to go potty, he will politely ask to go out with a whimper or a whine, and will promptly do his business once heā€™s out!

šŸ“†Heā€™s very adaptable and was super easy to put on a schedule for eating, sleeping and using the potty. He caught on quick and was happy to go along with his foster familyā€™s schedule as if heā€™d always been there.

šŸ›He enjoys bathtime. He even raises his legs when itā€™s time to wash underneath. This debonair dog is happy being squeaky clean and never a dirty dog!

šŸ¾He loves scratches and rubs - any love you can give! He will paw for more if you stop and he is not ready.šŸ˜‚

šŸ‘§šŸ½šŸ‘µšŸ½He interacts well with everyone in his foster home, he loves everyone and they love him. (age range: teen ā€“ senior).

šŸ˜¬He wants to be part of the family, so may have some separation anxiety when left alone for a while. His foster family has learned heā€™s happiest when he knows someone else is home. He has a soft, quiet puppy whine when heā€™s anxious or lonely but is learning to settle once he knows heā€™s not in this alone. This sweet fella just wants to be in his furever home so he can settle into a routine with the family meant for him.

Happy National Dog Day!! On this special day, we have a special post about our special pup - Dave!! While your feed may be filling up with First Day of School posts, please take a minute to check out Daveā€™s First Day of Work post!!

Americaā€™s first hospital, Pennsylvania Hospital, hosted Daveā€™s first official therapy visit. Hereā€™s a sneak peek, but youā€™ll want to check back to hear and see all about the very special first visit that took place.

Daveā€™s first visit consisted of navigating hallways, automatic doors, carts, alarms, a distressed/vocal patient and the list goes on. He made a stop at security so they could finalize badges (heā€™s got his very own badge!!) and he ā€œtook a meetingā€ with the hospitalā€™s CEO, Alicia Gresham. Finally, he got to meet lots of people and make lots and lots of new friends.

Dave expertly represented The Ronnie Stanley Foundation by being calm, quiet, gentle, ZERO jumping, expert leash manners and welcoming to all. This wouldnā€™t have happened if it wasnā€™t for the early support from Lakeside Elementary and Middle School, Reneeā€™s Rescue and everyone who has supported this little dude.

From Puppy Bowl to Official Therapy Dog, Dave has an incredible year but we have a feeling the best is yet to come!!

Round of applause for Dave!

A few months ago, we shared our Lincolnā€™s Love initiative in partnership with Banners Hockey. The beloved dog of a Banners Hockey volunteer, Lincoln had passed away suddenly at just 8 years old. He was a joyful soul who loved life and lived it to the fullest, so his loss was profound. In his honor, we sponsored adoption care packages for 28 BARCS dog adoptions, including a crate, bowls, toys, treats and enrichment items for each pup.

Our hope was to help more get more dogs adopted as BARCS was (and still is!) well over capacity. We also wanted to help these newly adopted pups get their happily ever after started the right way and enjoy life to the fullest, as Lincoln did.

While weā€™ve been busy putting together and delivering these care packages, we wanted to share some of the sweet pups that have been adopted through Lincolnā€™s Love. We look forward to sharing more happy tails very soon.

Thank you to everyone who donated to make this happen and of course to all the adopters - without you none of this is possible.

Thank you Banners Hockey for all you do for Baltimore and for being such amazing partners in the community.

Thank you most of all to Allie and Lincoln. Your unwavering love and loyalty to each other is an inspiration to us all. While nothing can ever fill the void left by his passing, we hope by turning loss into love, you find comfort in this beautiful legacy he now has through Lincolnā€™s Love. He will never be forgotten and will forever be in our hearts.

Now letā€™s all go and šŸ’šŸ’œšŸ–¤šŸ’›šŸˆ

Itā€™s Foster Friday AND the return of Ravens football! To kickoff our preseason, we have a special foster to share - Hedy Lamar, aka Heidi. While she may not be our typical featured foster, sheā€™s decked in Ravens colors and has Lamar in her name, so how could we resist?!

A volunteer at BARCS noticed Hedy living in a neighborā€™s yard for several months and was eventually able to trap her and bring her to BARCS for care. She soon went into foster and has made much progress from being a scared outdoor cat to being a cuddly house cat!

Skittish and unsure at first, she soon got comfortable with her foster family and the safety and comfort of indoor life, and then her personality began to shine. She has done well meeting new humans and finally feels safe enough to sleep out in the open - the cat tree is her go-to spot!

Hedy is ready to score a home of her own, preferably a quiet place to acclimate and then explore at her own pace. She loves a good head and chin rub and likes being combed/brushed. She has impeccable manners, using her scratching posts and litter box like a champ.

She makes a great co-worker/employee, as she loves to sit at your feet while youā€™re working from home and sometimes even hop on the desk to join in on the occasional Zoom meeting (sheā€™s been to several of her foster momā€™s meetings already, and was considered a top contributor!).

When not leading Zoom calls or supervising from her cat tree perch, Hedy enjoys chasing the laser pointer, playing with her catnip-filled toys and of course squeezing into boxes. She likes a good snuggle when sheā€™s picked her up ā€“ sheā€™ll hug your neck and purr for a minute or so before sheā€™s ready to move on to her next task.

Hedy is super sweet, well behave kitty that will be a constant, loving companion to her furever human once she finds them! If you are interested in more info, please contact BARCS at [email protected]

We have a special rescue plea - this one is for a human friend that has been one of our most active & enthusiastic supporters. This friend is our favorite Pre-K teacher, Lori Raxenberg, who desperately needs a new kidney.

Ms. Lori, as her students know her, graduated from Towson University and has been teaching Pre-K to Baltimore City Public School students for 25 yrs. In addition, sheā€™s been involved in animal rescue for over a decade, volunteering for BARCS & fostering over 50 animals. And a huge Ravens fan, ofc!
Ā
Sheā€™s passionate about helping children & animals, and combines these two passions by incorporating animals in her curriculum and classroom. Sheā€™s been inviting dogs and cats to visit her classes for years and even has her students create their own ā€œanimal shelterā€ with stuffed animals (the kids get to ā€œadoptā€ them at the end šŸ„°).

It was Ms. Lori that first invited us into her classroom, with our 1st visit w/ Roxy. We have had many visits since, several with our Therapy Dog, Dave. Daveā€™s interactions with her class were a big part of his training and something the children looked forward to every visit. (They were also his biggest Puppy Bowl fan club!)

These visits have profound positive effects on children and help shape their views on learning, compassion, kindness and our relationship with animals. Many students that had never been excited about school, brightened up with Daveā€™s visits and were inspired to write, draw and talk about Dave.

For the last 2 decades as she was working hard giving back to her community, she was also quietly battling kidney disease. She had been able to manage it until recently, when her doctors let her know a new one is now needed to save her life.

The wait for a kidney from a deceased donor is currently 8 yrs. If she is able to find a living donor, the wait is a few months. She will have less chance of her health deteriorating further and less complications. It will also allow her to continue pursuing her passion for helping children and animals and continue to contribute to our community.

Weā€™re happy to share our latest RSF match in partnership w/ BARCS!

Meet the Bennetts - a family of 6, including Dad (works for the Coast Guard), Mom (school librarian), 8 yr old son, 6 yr old daughter, Grandmom and a rescue kitty - makes 6.

Theyā€™d been looking for a dog to provide support & companionship to their daughter, who recently started struggling wi/ some health issues. While she has professional help, they knew a dog could help in ways people cannot, especially w/ anxiety and focus.

They were also hoping to find a dog that would love the whole family & could join Mom at work. You see, her students live in underserved communities & face many challenges, including gang influence, food insecurity, violence and neglect. As a result, she spends much of her day not just tutoring/teaching, but also helping them navigate personal struggles.

The library is seen by her students as a place to feel connected & safe. Many students are reading well below grade level, so Mrs. Bennett and the teaching staff have been researching using animals to assist in these programs. Her dream is to have a dog that can join her there to help students with reading programs and stress relief.

These seemed like big paws to fill, but BARCS came through as always! Jojo came in as a stray, so his prior history was unknown. What they did know was that he was a young, big, loving pup w/ a heart of gold. When we described what the Bennetts were looking for, his amazing foster immediately knew he would be perfect. And boy were they right!

Jojo is now Waylon and has made the Bennetts a family of 7. He has bonded w/ the children, loves playing with them as much as napping with them. He has visited lots of other friends and family members and they say there isnā€™t a person or pup who doesnā€™t love him to pieces.

Waylon always seems to know when someone needs comfort and is there to give his perfect hugs. They say heā€™s full of just the right amount of mischief and just wants to be with his people all the time. And thatā€™s perfectly fine with them.

As his mom shared, ā€œHe is just what our family has neededā€ and we canā€™t imagine a better ending for all stray dogs.

It may be Foster Friday but youā€™re going to love Wednesday!

Meet Wednesday! šŸ’œšŸ¾

Wednesday is a 3.5 yr old cuddle bug who loves to play with her favorite toys, her flirt pole, Chuck it ball, and Benebones! Sheā€™s a spunky lady always looking for a good time! She enjoys being outside and could spend hours in the yard relaxing in the sun.

She is very eager to please and extremely food motivated, making her very receptive to training. Sheā€™s a healthy girl whose favorite snacks are šŸ„•, šŸ«›, šŸ«, and šŸ„’, although sheā€™ll never turn down some jerky or a bully stick. She has a very reliable sit and knows how to ā€œwait,ā€ for toys and food! Sheā€™s currently on a hydrolyzed diet trial while her foster family investigates if she has a food allergy.

Wednesday loves going on adventures and is the best passenger in the car! She prefers to ride shotgun but will also lay down in the back seat with a bone. Her favorite adventures while in foster have been going hiking, exploring local towns, and visiting dog friendly breweries!

She walks well on leash and is working on her leash manners in public settings. She can get excited about new smells, squirrels, and other dogs, but is refining loose leash walking skills while exploring new environments.

Wednesday is crate trained and can be crated w/ ease for 6 hours without any issues. She may whine a bit when sheā€™s excited to get out, but when given a frozen Kong or Toppl, she is content to relax in her crate. When itā€™s time to get her out, sheā€™s happy to greet you with her favorite stuffy or nylabone while wiggling all around.

Wednesday doesnā€™t love sharing toys or food w/ other doggos, so needs to be the only dog in her forever home. Sheā€™s very interested in the cats in her foster home and is still learning to leave them alone, so if you have cats the adoption team will review the proper acclimation process to allow her to know that cats are not to be chased.

If youā€™d like to meet Wednesday, please email [email protected] to complete an app and be connected with her foster family!

We have A LOT going on at the moment, including some upcoming Happy Tails! In the meantime, we wanted to take a minute to share an awesome update on Bryce!

Bryce came to rescue after he was displaced when his former owner diverted him to live on a patio after he got new flooring. This made for a very lonely life for this sweet boy. The former owner allowed him to come to Reneeā€™s Rescues to find a family that could invest time in him - not to mention allow him to live indoors.

Jeremy and Maureen were that family and theyā€™ve invested all their love and time into giving Bryce the life he deserves. They opened their hearts and šŸ  to him completely. They needed help with training, so we partnered with Reneeā€™s Rescues to get them training through a local DE trainer, Simple K9 Solutions.

The trio did amazing work in their training sessions, which also helped them bond even more. We are thrilled to share that Bryce has completed his basic obedience training through Simple K9 Solutions and we are excited to see what else his bright future holds!

Bryce now spends his days with his loving furever family. Many days he even goes to work with his dad, who is in the military. Nights, however, are all spent home, indoors, safe and sound, snuggled in bed.

Congrats to all involved!

Our Featured pup comes to you courtesy of our very own Daveā€™s (fka Linus), ā€œAlma Mutterā€, Reneeā€™s Rescues.

Meet Zell! This happy pup was found as a stray at just 3 months old. We have no idea how long she was out in the world all on her own, fending for herself, but it speaks volumes to her resilience and fortitude. Thankfully, she was rescued and taken into foster, where she was able to get a clean bill of health and learn to trust humans as well as animal friends.

Zell is now 7 months old, about 45 lbs and already crate and potty trained. A good old fashioned mutt, we guess Lab, Rottweiler, Shepherd, and Boxer breeds all being a possibility in her mix. We estimate (but canā€™t guarantee) sheā€™ll be a medium sized dog, likely between 55-70lbs.

Sheā€™s dog friendly, and would love a canine companion who enjoys roughhousing and playing doggy tag. Cats are ok, as long as theyā€™ll stand their ground when theyā€™ve had enough of her.

Being a playful puppy means still learning the rules (no jumping, nipping, etc.), but sheā€™s made lots of progress with jumping on humans, and her puppy ā€œmouthinessā€ can easily be redirected with a chew toy. She would do best in a home with kids 10 and older as sheā€™s still working on this.

Sheā€™s getting better at walking nicely on leash and really enjoys walks! She enjoys car rides as well and will sit or lay nicely. On a scale of 1-10, her energy level is about a 7 and for that reason she needs a fenced yard for Zellie Zoomies or a very active owner who will take her for lots of walks/adventures!

Zell loves to play fetch, chew a bone or squeaky toy and even chase sticks. One of her favorite activities is sunning herself in a patch of soft grass ā€“ she truly loves the outdoors! Once sheā€™s tuckered out, sheā€™s happy as a clam cuddling on the couch with you.

Zell is a very smart, social, trainable pup who will work hard for some treats and praise. Sheā€™s up to date on her vaccinations as well as on preventatives, microchipped and spayed, so all set for her furever home. If you think Zell would be a good fit for your family and would like to meet her, please fill out an application with Reneeā€™s Rescues!!

In our greatest times of need, our Baltimore community comes together to support each other. This is why we are partnering with our Banners Hockey friends in a new initiative, ā€œLincolnā€™s Loveā€, to help more families adopt some of the many dogs in need at BARCS. BARCS is currently overwhelmed w/ dogs in their care after taking in 83 dogs in a shelter already filled to capacity.

Lincoln is the beloved dog of Allie, a Banners Hockey friend. Lincoln was more than a dog to her, he was her best friend, confidante, her life. Sadly he passed away suddenly at just 8 years old. His mom is beyond grateful for the time they had together, but we know all too well her current heartbreak, as itā€™s never enough time with our pets.

Baltimore is a special place to live and itā€™s because of people like Allie. Even if you just moved to Baltimore, when youā€™re with Allie you feel like youā€™re home. Allie is a Ravens season ticket owner, avid Oā€™s fan and fervent supporter of all things Baltimore, especially Banners hockey and BARCS.

Her beloved Lincoln was the same way - one wet kiss made you feel like youā€™ve known him his whole life. He had the biggest smile ever, he played hard and he loved even harder. He wanted to be everyoneā€™s best friend, but no doubt Allie was his #1.

In honor of Lincoln, and to help more dogs like him find furever homes, starting today we will be sponsoring adoption care packages for the first 28 dog adoptions. These care packages will include a crate, bowls, toys, and treats for their new furry family member.

We chose 28 as these numbers are special to Lincolnā€™s mom. They represent her 2 favorite Ravens (Ed Reed 20 and Lamar Jackson šŸ˜Ž, as well as the 8 cherished years she spent with Lincoln. While nothing can bring him back, our hope is that Allie may find comfort in knowing her sweet boy is still here in spirit, helping more dogs like him. Turning loss into love, we can make their lives even more meaningful.

Any dog would be thrilled to have a life like Lincolnā€™s and we hope this support will give more dogs the chance to

If you would like to help us help more families, please donate today! Link in bio

With so many pups in need of homes, we decided we needed to double up on Foster Friday - so hereā€™s another awesome pup waiting for her furever home while in foster!

Brenda is truly a special pup who has already come a long way in the short time she's been with her foster family. At 2 years old, sheā€™s still young but already crate and potty trained!

Brenda thrives on love, patience, and understanding, and we've seen her true personality shine through as she's become more comfortable in her surroundings.

Some highlights:
- Sheā€™s incredibly loving and cuddly, and adores spending time w/ her fosters and their dogs.
- Despite her initial shyness, she's friendly and playful once she feels comfortable in her environment.
- She gets along wonderfully w/ other dogs and shows no signs of resource guarding. She happily engages in playtime and shares toys with no issues. She may be too overwhelmed by lots of unfamiliar dogs at once, so we recommend no dog parks or daycares.
- While she may be anxious in certain situations, particularly on leash or around unfamiliar dogs, she demonstrates remarkable resilience w/ patience and reassurance.
- We believe Brenda would thrive in a home where she can receive the attention and understanding she deserves. She will be a great addition to a family with other dogs, after slow introductions as they are essential for success. (A meet/greet is necessary for any resident dogs to be sure they are a good fit). Alternatively, she would do equally well as an only dog in a loving home environment.

Brenda's a quick learner! With minimal effort, she's mastered the agility tunnel, fetch and basic commands like sit, stay, & off. Sheā€™s currently working on leave it and perfecting loose leash skills, and already showing progress! Most recently she TAUGHT HERSELF to ring the bells on her fosterā€™s back door when she needs to go potty - such a smart girl!!

For more info about adopting Brenda, please contact BARCS at [email protected].

Time again for Foster Friday and we are happy to feature an amazing BARCS pup!! BARCS recently took in 83 dogs in one day, from one home, so we want to do everything we can to help them get more dogs adopted as they are understandably in crisis mode at the moment.

Meet VAL, King of Sploots!! šŸ‘‘ šŸ¶

This handsome man is currently looking for his forever home from his fosterā€™s couchšŸ©·

Valā€™s favorite past time is laying in your lap. He doesnā€™t realize heā€™s over 90lbs, but if youā€™ll accept the free weighted blanket, heā€™s happy to oblige!

Val is VERY housebroken! He tells you when he needs to go and he sleeps peacefully overnight with no issues.

He is a silent, gentle giant. Val is friendly to everyone. Make sure you have good footing, because he WILL bulldoze you with cuddles. šŸ˜‚

You would never know he is 9 years old.

Val is looking for a family without small children due to possibly knocking them over/trying to sit on them. He is selective about his doggie pals, and prefers gentle/dainty players. Val does not feel comfortable in a multi dog/ dog park scenario, and prefers 1 on 1 play. We donā€™t know how he is with cats yet due to the acclimation period before introducing him to any cats).

Val is non reactive to people walking by, squirrels, or other dogs. If someone is running by, he will try to start running with them. šŸƒ šŸ• He is working on his leash manners, but is very responsive and checks in with his handler often.

He is strong, but very receptive to correction to stop pulling. Heā€™s working on it!

If your family is looking to add a member to your family, please consider this sweet senior! He is available immediately, and his adoption fee is waived. For more info on adopting Val, please contact [email protected] or [email protected]

05/04/2024

Itā€™s another Foster Friday and get ready to melt, as we introduce you to 3 1/2 year old NEO, currently in foster with our friends at Lorraineā€™s Legacy.

Neo was originally pulled from a local shelter 2.5 years ago. He was extremely emaciated and had a very rough first year of life before being rescued. In foster with Lorraineā€™s Legacy, he was nursed back to health, both physically and mentally. It took him a while to learn trust his fosters but once he did, he came alive and showed the amazing pup he was meant to be.

Neo is crate and house trained and great with cats! He is still cautious of new people, so takes him a little bit to warm up. Once youā€™re in his circle though, youā€™ll have the best little buddy ever, who is happy to always match pjs with you.

Neo would be great companion for a single female or a young active couple. He loves hiking and has boundless energy but once that is spent, heā€™s happy watching baseball and true crime shows. He loves spending his down time cuddling in bed, after a few good rounds of zoomies.

Neo can be a bit of a bull in a china shop so he is not recommended for younger kids as he may get excited and accidentally knock one over. He respects cats and has been known to snuggle with them if they let him. He is also good with patient dogs who arenā€™t put off by his exuberant zoomies.

If you think NEO could be your ONE, please contact Lorraineā€™s Legacy at [email protected]
