We are incredibly excited to introduce you to the newest members of our RSF family! This adoption is extra special as it has connections to one of first adoptions.

Meet the Machners - a family of four: Trent (Dad), Beth (Mom), Nora 8.5 yrs old, & James 5.5 yrs old. James was born w/ an ultra rare neurodegenerative disorder and has been on hospice care w/ Gilchrist Kids since he was 2.5 years old.

The first kid ever diagnosed w/ this disorder, he’s incredibly medically complex, w/ seizures, central line TPN, suction machine, pulse ox and is non-mobile & non-verbal.

Through Gilchrist, they learned of the Gonzales family, whose daughter, Amanda, was part of their hospice program. They learned of how Parker was adopted through us for their older daughter, Sarah, and how much comfort & joy he’s provided to them all, especially since Amanda’s passing in 2023.

Much like the Gonzales family, they were hoping to match a dog with their daughter, Nora, to provide her companionship and love. They also believed a dog would provide comfort to the whole family & help them to get outside more as they were very home-bound.

Through a local rescue, they met Mae, and they knew she was a perfect fit! Mae is a 3 yr old, compact (40 lbs) mixed breed ball of happiness and love. She’s the perfect mix of playful and cuddly, and the perfect size for Nora.

Nora & Mae are already bonding, and can often be found side by side, w/ Mae always keeping a paw on her girl. Nora is excited to work on training Mae, helping her learn to walk well on leash and not chase after squirrels. They already have a training plan and we look forward to lots of updates!

Thank you to all who made this adoption possible, from Gilchrist Kids for trusting us to help this amazing family, to our amazing friend, teacher Lori Raxenberg, who generously donated Mae’s crate.

Our biggest, heartfelt thanks to the Gonzales family, who continue to inspire so many. Amanda’s gifts of love continue, first Parker and now Mae, as without Amanda none of this would have been possible. We are honored and grateful to continue to share her memory with all of you.

Welcome to the RSF family, Machners!

Happy Monday!!

In between adoptions, we try to spend as much time in the community as we can, with our continued focused on promoting rescue and the therapeutic benefits of animal companionship.

One of our favorite activities in the community is doing comfort visits to our Baltimore City Fire Department firehouses. Studies show that spending even 20 minutes with a dog can reduce stress, blood pressure and improve our overall mindset. With all our BCFD First Responders do for us every day, the least we can do is offer a brief reprieve from the stress and chaos of their day - with PUPPIES!!

We had the honor of visiting the Hampden BCFD station, home of Engine 21 and Truck 25. This is also home to Hampden's Firehouse Fidos - Chronicles of our Canine Companions, a page that highlights visits from local canine friends. They embrace the furry members of the community, encourage visits to their station, where pups can always count on fresh water, scratches and of course treats.

Their FB and IG pages shares the visits they get from neighborhood dogs and has everyone vote for their favorites every month. Last year, they even created a calendar from all of their visits and donated proceeds to BARCS Animal Shelter. It’s incredible to us that with all they do every day, they still make time to celebrate our canine family members and encourage rescue. Please give them a follow and if you’re in the area with your pup, stop by and say hi!

For this visit, we teamed up with our friends at Animal Allies Rescue Foundation (AARF), who brought their adorable litter of 11 wk old terrier mixes - all available for adoption:

🎉 Meet the crew:
🐶 Sonny – charming little gentleman (male)
🌷 Tulip – sweet and ready to bloom (female)
🌸 Petal – tiny and snuggly (female)
🐾 Barry – your future best bud (male)
🌱 Sprout – playful and curious (male)

Their mom is a Cairn Terrier mix (8–10 lbs), dad may be a Boston Terrier mix — so they’re expected to be small. They’re getting great exposure to dogs, cats, and kids in their foster homes and are on their way to becoming confident little companions.

We love getting updates from our adopters, especially amazing ones like this message we received from Harry’s family! 💜🐶⚽️🥅

“Caiden and Harry are very attached. Harry traveled to Ocean City for the Sand Soccer Tournament. Despite the heavy downpours, Harry did great. I was busy keeping Harry dry, so I didn’t get many pictures.

Thank you so much for blessing us with such a perfect match. Harry did a fabulous job everywhere we went. He is such a great addition to our family! He was able to walk the dog beach on the bay and did great amongst thousands of spectators and players. The coach considers Harry part of the team now! He loves warming up with them and occasionally gets to push the ball along. He hasn’t scored a goal yet, but I’m sure with Caiden coaching him, it’s only a matter of time!

Blessings,
Terry”

Thank to everyone that supports us and helps make these impactful rescue adoptions possible. These matches not only save the lives of rescue dogs, but also improve the quality of life for their adopters. We rely on donations and volunteers for all the work we do, but seeing these smiles makes it ALL worth it!!

Barstool Sports has Miss Peaches, has Miss Dahlia!!

🌸🩷 ADOPT (or FOSTER) DAHLIA! 🩷🌸

🩷 Super Sweet & Cuddly
🌸 Gentle & Mellow
🩷 Easygoing & Leisurely Walker
🌸 Housebroken
🩷 Affectionate Snuggly Lovebug
🌸 Did well w/ KIDS in public

Dahlia is a 6 yr old, 65 lb gentle, affectionate soul who thrives on companionship, cuddles and love. With her calm, mellow demeanor, she is the perfect low-key best friend, always seeking to be close to her person. Whether it's curling up on the couch for a cozy snuggle or offering sweet hugs and kisses, Dahlia's presence is a source of comfort and joy.

She is a star on public outings, greeting new people and children with tail wags and face kisses, even mascots like the Raven’s Poe. Preferring leisurely strolls on a gentle leash, Dahlia enjoys taking in the world at a relaxed pace.

She is house-trained and recently spent a weekend out of the shelter where it was confirmed that her favorite activity is snuggling and will spend hours curled up beside you. Crating is not Dahlia's thing-she strongly prefers to be out and close to her person, and slept through the night peacefully when allowed to stay by her foster's side.

Dahlia is a people-loving pup who's just waiting for someone to love her back as fiercely as she loves them and would flourish in a home where she can be by your side, soaking up all the love and giving it right back.

🐶 Dog Experience: Dahlia met other dogs at BARCS, she’s gentle girl & can be easily uncomfortable. She does best with polite, socially savvy dogs and needs to meet potential doggie roommates to be sure they’re a match.

😻 Cat Experience: Unknown

🍼 Kid Experience: Dahlia was happy to greet new people of all ages w/ tail wags and kisses out in public.

Location: BARCS Animal Shelter in Baltimore, MD
Pet Point ID: 58449412

If you're interested in adopting or fostering Dahlia, please go to the shelter to meet her or email [email protected]

What better way to celebrate National Rescue Dog Day than with an amazing adoption story! Meet the Challis Family, aka Team Challis - Henry (Dad), Tabitha (Mom), Zephyr (15), Jackson (15), Indiana (7) and now Tilly!

Jax and Indy were adopted from Bulgaria 3 yrs ago, joining new big brother, Zephyr. Both were born w/ special needs and not receiving much needed care there.

Jax was in an institution for special needs children & never attended school. Neglected medically/developmentally, he was so emaciated that at 11 he weighed only 6 lbs more than Indy, age 3.

Indy has Down syndrome and was abandoned at birth. He fared somewhat better in a foster home, however w/ limited services for special needs kids, he rec’d almost no early interventions or therapies.

While adding 2 boys has brought a ton of joy, it’s also been a ton of work w/ 3 yrs of countless medical, phys/occu/speech therapy, & mental health appts. They all also learned sign language as both boys were non-verbal when they met.

They decided to adopt a dog as add’l support for Indy, who has a natural gift w/ animals. From spiders, mantises, dogs, cats, rabbits & snakes - he’s incredibly delicate w/ all living beings. So they welcomed Tilly (Mahi Mahi at BARCS), aka Pork Chop Butterbean Biscuit Gravy Grits, to Team Challis.

Indy & Tilly bonded quickly & are very close. She’s loving & patient w/ him. They sit together & he pets her til she falls asleep on his lap. On car rides they happily share the back seat. She gently dotes on him, having no problem sharing food or toys.

With our RSF sponsorship, Tilly has all the essentials - crate, bed, treats & toys she loves. We’ll also be sponsoring training so the family can help her w/ some basics.

Every day is a new adventure, which they tackle as a team. We’re honored to be a part of the amazing journey of this inspirational family & look forward to many more updates and silly Indy/Tilly pics.

And with that, a very Happy National Rescue Dog Day it is!!

Happy Foster Friday!

Meet certified sweetheart Arabella! This gentle girl has the kindest heart and just wants some loving!!

🌺 Arabella is a 1-year-old, gentle soul who may be a bit shy at first, but once she feels safe, her sweet nature really shines. After just 24 hrs in foster, she blossomed into a playful, happy, silly girl! Her foster believes she just needed some kind words, a comfy couch, and a tiny bit of patience.

🏠 She appears to be house-trained as she hasn’t had any accidents yet.

🐕 She gets a little excited on walks but after a couple minutes she settles into a steady rhythm and checks in often as she loves just being close.

🐶 🐶 She’s met other dogs at the shelter and enjoys gentle play, so she’d love to meet any potential doggy roommates.

🐾 She hasn’t made a peep so far in foster, other than the quietest little whine when a kitty cat ran by on our walk, but she stayed put and didn’t try to chase after it!

💋 If you start giving her pets, she’ll politely rest her head in your hands and soak in the love. If you’re lucky, she might just give you a little kiss! At 47 lbs, she is the PERFECT size for cuddles and gentle as can be!

👀 Her adorable little underbite makes it look like she’s pouting all the time, even when her tail is wagging frantically—plus the puppy dog eyes… you won’t be able to resist!

❣️ If you’re looking for a calm, loving companion who speaks with her heart, Arabella might be the perfect match!

We are incredibly sad to share the passing of Bruce, one of our RSF family pups.

Bruce, aka Bruce Lee Stanley, was one of Ronnie’s adopted rescue pups. Ronnie began fostering Bruce at the end of 2023, but quickly knew Bruce was home for good. Initially shy and reserved, with the help of big brother, Rico, Bruce soon gained confidence and trust.

He loved head scratches, car rides, sunbathing, chewing on toys (or whatever else he could find). Bruce also loved his naps, especially with Rico as the two quickly became the most adorable and inseparable partners in crime.

Bruce had significant health issues that required a lot of care, including meds, special diet and daily iv treatments. Even with all of his vet visits and daily maintenance, he always remained the same sweet, happy, loving, silly boy, even til the end. He’s an inspiration to us all for overcoming adversity and living life to the fullest.

While we are heartbroken with his loss, we are grateful for the time we had with him. We knew we had to honor his memory in some way, so with our friends at Charting Careers, we’ve been able to do just that!

Charting Careers is an amazing nonprofit that offers a variety of resources, programs and experiences, to inspire local youth to discover their power and reach their goals. They offer support in a wide range of areas, including tutoring, mentoring, and food insecurity, just to name a few.

In partnership with Charting Careers, we rolled out “Bruce’s Buddies”, a program to offer their youth additional support through our foundation. We will soon be sharing more about this special program and even our first incredible visit with the Charting Careers students.

For now, please keep Ronnie and Rico in your thoughts as they adjust to life without their best little buddy.

We love you Bruce and you will never be forgotten. 💜🌈

RSF ALUMNI UPDATE!!

We wanted to share a special update on Bryce, who was adopted last year to a military home in partnership with . This update is super special as Bryce’s parents, Maureen and Jeremy, also provided a temporary foster home for our most recently adopted pup, Harry! Bryce and his parents welcomed Harry into their home for a short time when his foster parents needed some help. Bryce helped show Harry the ropes and helped him get comfortable in a normal home environment.

Here is the update from Bryce’s dad:

“Bryce is doing great. He’s been all over the country with us now and loves his chickens, toys, and pup cups. We babysat Harry for a little while too. Bryce got along great with him. I’m so happy he found his forever home and with the foundation too! Thank you again for all the work you & the foundation do.”

Maureen and Jeremy still foster with Renee’s Rescue pretty regularly and have been bringing their fosters to their new Snap Fitness 24/7 gym they recently bought in Hockessin, DE. Their foster pups visit the gym to get more exposure and to brighten the days of everyone that comes in to workout. The additional exposure helps to get them adopted and is a great experience for them meeting new people.

We love that this experience has not only inspired them to help rescue and foster more dogs, but also that they are incorporating rescue pups in their business model! If you’re looking for a great place to workout and maybe also get some snuggles from an adoptable pup, please check them out! (Next to dogs, exercise can be the best thing we can do for our mental health!)

We are so grateful to Bryce’s parents, and all other fosters that generously opens their hearts and homes to rescue animals in need! Fostering saves lives and we couldn’t do this without you!

Adoption announcement!! When Harry met Caiden…

Caiden is a bright, big hearted 11 yr old, who is being raised by his loving grandmother, Theresa. She contacted us after Noah, their beloved 14 yr old dog passed away. Caiden had spent his entire life with Noah, who provided him companionship and assisted Caiden with his anxiety, depression, ADHD, and various daily rituals. Once Noah passed, Caiden regressed in many ways, including not being able to sleep in his own room. Theresa contacted us, praying we could help Caiden find his ideal canine companion, which we were determined to do!

We put them in contact with one of our rescue partners, and after an in depth consult, they suggested Caiden meet Harry.

Harry is a happy 2 year old bundle of young pup energy who had spent the past year in foster, looking for his perfect match. While in foster, they learned Harry loves kids, dogs, chasing critters, playing fetch and just living life to the fullest. They couldn’t figure out why this amazing pup had yet to find his perfect furever home. Then he met Caiden and it all became clear - they had been waiting to find each other all along!

It’s been over a month now since Caiden brought Harry home and the updates from Theresa are absolute joy.

From Theresa:

“What a wonderful foundation!
Caiden has not only taken on and accepted the responsibility of caring for Harry, he has calmed down quite a bit. His grades have drastically improved just in the month that Harry has been here. They play ball daily and Harry has learned to play soccer ⚽️. They are constantly together and learning together. Harry lays at Caiden’s feet while he completely finishes his assignments.

We can’t thank you enough for blessing our little family with such a great companion ❤️. Caiden’s mood has drastically improved and he is able to much better control his emotions. Harry is exactly what he needed! He is such a blessing! We truly appreciate you and this entire team for blessing us with such a perfect Support Pet! God Bless you! Yes, it is a process, yet , Harry was well worth the wait.”

We couldn’t agree more!!
