I’ve got some new followers and it’s been a while, so I thought I’d do a quick little introduction 😊

First, this is basically how you’ll see me in winter weather…a beanie and oversized sunnies. My name is Heather. I’m 43, and I am a wife, professional dog walker and pet sitter, serving the Littlestown, Gettysburg and Hanover areas of South Central PA. I love my job and take pride in my work! This IS my full time job, not a side hustle 🥰

I’m the owner of two beautiful Rottweilers, and I’ve owned, trained and loved 5 of them over the past 20+ years. This breed is my passion and my best boy is pictured, here. Every single one of my Rottweilers have been highly trained from basic obedience to behavior modification and veterinary desensitization, to disciplines where we’ve titled in competition such as sheep herding, carting, obedience and the show ring 🏆 I adore the working breeds!

I’m not someone who’s simply “owned dogs all my life”. Aside from training, I have-

Worked for almost 11 years, 8 full time and now just one Saturday morning a month as a Receptionist/client care rep at Littlestown Vet Hospital. I can recognize when something might seem off/out of the ordinary with your pet and will alert you as to what I notice. I am a communicator!! I am a HUGE advocate for dog training and canine nutrition and have reliable and very knowledgeable resources for trainers and canine nutritionists I am more than happy to refer you to!! I love making a difference, it’s not about a paycheck or just walking dogs. It is my passion, and that’s why I do what I do 💁‍♀️

I know dog body language and I have no discrimination on breed or size.

I have horse and basic farm knowledge. I rode horses for years as a kid, and still like to ride when given the opportunity. I don’t get many requests for farm care, but I do know my way around horses and farm critters, so reach out if you need me! 🐴 And I also care for cats! 😻

Outside of all things dogs/animals, weight lifting and body building is my jam 🏋🏼‍♀️💪

With the New Year just around the corner, I wanted to share some changes and updates that will be happening in 2024 for Heather Walks Dogs, LLC. Please take a moment to read, I know it’s a bit lengthy, but I use this platform to keep my current and potential clients informed and updated.

First, thank you to EVERYONE who supported me and my little business this year. 2023 was a BIG year for me and I couldn’t be more grateful. I look forward to what 2024 holds for me!

A few reminders-

•I do my absolute very best to try to accommodate everyone in need of dog walking and pet sitting, and I genuinely appreciate flexibility from my clients at certain times. I am a one woman show and work very hard to make my clients happy. That being said, if you contact me same day/less than 24 hours for pet care/dog walking, I’ll do what I can to make it work, but I may not always be available. If you know me, you know I ALWAYS try to make it work!

•When you book with me for pet sitting, a non refundable deposit is due at time of booking. That deposit comes off your total for the entire pet care time. I confirm 24-48 hours in advance, so any last minute cancellations may not be possible to fill, and I could have potentially turned someone away for that time slot, that I now can’t fill. Things happen, I completely understand, but also understand this is my full time business.

• Meet and Greets always required for new clients.

• Proof of current rabies vaccine is required, and a copy is to be provided to me at the meet and greet. Zero exceptions, unless there is a health issue medically approved by your Veterinarian, in which documentation is required.

• Service locations- Littlestown, Gettysburg, Hanover. I do not service Maryland.

•I still walk dogs in cold weather, but I do not walk in inclement conditions such as heavy rain/snow/ice. If last minute cancellations need to be made for bad/extreme cold weather I’ll do my best to reschedule your dog’s walk within the week!

• For pet sitting drop ins/let outs, I provide visits up to 3x/ day for Littlestown area and 1-2x/day for Gettysburg and Hanover.

• Payment is due on the first day. No exceptions.

2024 *UPDATES*

** My hours of operation will change starting 1/1/24. I no longer provide evening visits for pet sitting/drop-ins past 5:00pm. I have a few very reliable resources for evening portions of drop ins for clients who need me for multiple visits per day, meaning I will do morning and afternoon visits up until 5pm. This will be discussed in person. *If you’re already booked with me, this does NOT apply to you* Hours of operation are 8am- 5pm.

• Walks and drop-ins are up to 30 mins. I no longer provide 60 min increments (I had very few of those as it is).

• I do not walk dogs using “flexi-leads” for multiple reasons, the main being safety. Please provide a standard leash, or a $3 charge per walk will be added for use of one of my own leashes. No exceptions.

Not just for us dog professionals, but for everyday dog owners as well!! Sorry to disappoint, but a wagging tail doesn’t *always* mean a dog is “friendly” or happy to see you or another dog.

It’s 2023. With all the information available, no one should be giving rawhide to their dogs. There are better options and remember to ALWAYS supervise your dogs with recreational chews and limit their time chewing to 10-20 minutes at a time.

Good morning, from my Christmas home to yours🎄A few things with December just days away…

Please get any and all drop in pet sitting requests in asap! My schedule is filling up quickly for all of December!

I have been lenient with deposits for pet sitting (my fault) but due to cancellations I’ve had recently they WILL be required upon booking- $25 non refundable, but comes off total payment. Payment in full is due on the FIRST day, no exceptions.

I confirm my visits (at least) 48 hours in advance. Please confirm within the day or I cannot guarantee I will be available. My time is valuable.
Please understand that if you cancel on me within 24-48 hours I will be losing out on business and may not be able to fill that spot and/or I turned someone away for that time slot that I can’t get back.

**As of January 1, 2024 I will be accepting cash or Venmo ONLY. I’m moving away from PayPal.

Just a friendly reminder for Thanksgiving dog safety! Remember, a dog’s digestive system is NOT the same as ours. Not only are some foods highly toxic to dogs, but cooked fats can easily cause pancreatitis in dogs and I’m pretty sure no one wants to end up making a trip to the ER Vet over something that can easily be avoided.

**I will note that PLAIN sweet potato in small amount is okay, not the candied ones. PLAIN green beans, not the casserole and without seasoning, and pure pumpkin purée only, NOT pumpkin pie filling**

This is also a PERFECT time to crate your dog. Too often, things drop on the floor while cooking and celebrating Holiday festivities and your dog will be right there to gobble the ”goodies”. Keep them safe and enjoy Thanksgiving! 🐾
