While food is an easy thing to use as a reward, it’s not the only thing you can use… and it isn’t always the most motivating 🐾 Check out how big Kusi has gotten! We’re using his favorite game (tug) as a reward and motivator in heel. As always, he’s doing amazing!
Preparing for a vet visit at the hardware store
Do you help prepare your dog for a visit to your veterinarian? Or, do you just show up and hope for the best?
Being sick isn’t fun, so it’s important that we do our best to help our dogs prepare so they can be as comfortable as possible when we need to take them in.
Grimm tends to get nervous at the vet. He’s always a good boy but I’ve had to be creative in the ways I can help him be cooperative while also creating a positive experience.
One of the things Grimm struggles with the most at the vets office is laying down. Laying down is a pretty vulnerable behavior, and unfortunately I’m pretty sure Grimm has a skin infection on his belly - go figure!
We have an appointment with our vet next week, and she’ll need to be able to look at his belly to see what’s going on.
In order to help make this visit as smooth as possible for everyone involved, I taught Grimm a new trick.
“Show me your belly!”
This trick is easy enough at home, but in order to help him get as comfortable as possible in this position we’re going all over town to strengthen the skill.
So, here’s Grimm showing off his belly in the middle of Home Depot 👍🏻
Look at Schutz go!
I’m so proud of this guy!
Today was our final lesson with Schutz, and I’m equally sad to say goodbye and so proud of all the hard work Ken and Lisa have done with him.
Schutz is an incredibly friendly dog, but boy is he powerful. During their consultation they expressed how one of their goals was to be able to take him to the farmers market - so that’s where we went!
Schutz did amazing, he walked by other dogs, people and all the chaos of a busy setting like a pro. Best of luck Schutz, so grateful to have been able to be a part of your journey!
