Not to worry, we will definitely be sending out holiday cards…they may just be a bit delayed! I’ve been procrastinating on writing my letter, and now the month of December is just slipping away!
But, don’t you worry! I will not let Pebbles down! The annual holiday letter, now written by little old me, will continue!

Joey, you were the first! You started a legacy…and it lives on!! You would be proud of the crazy little Pack you started! Their big personalities, their unique characteristics, their ability to be ornery, but also so loving and loyal!
You were also my first for saying goodbye. Learning to cope, learning to grieve, learning to accept loss…those were lessons you taught me. You prepared me for my future losses, and while each is different, I am capable of handling whatever comes my way, because you went first. You laid the groundwork, you drilled into my head that you are always with me, that you are watching over me!
I know without a doubt that you are there with Pebbles and Benji. Their guide. Their mentor. And, most importantly their friend!
And, now I have three Angels watching over me, sending me reminders and holding pieces of my heart.
Because of you, Joey, I have had to grieve three times and have the knowledge that there will be more times in the future, but also because of you, Joey, I have had almost 24 years of the best memories, unforgettable adventures, constant smiles and laughter, countless moments of surprise, shock and awe, and most importantly the most amazing love! Those years far outweigh the grief!
Thank You, Joey, for the gift of your life and your legacy.

My heart has been eased, a bit. This week, Benji joined Joey & Pebbles at at .
There are now a P, a B & a J together at our memorial.
The chimes sang loud and clear during Benji’s blessing and kept right on playing as we sat there taking in all that is Angels Rest. In my opinion, it’s one of the most beautiful places on Earth. While each memorial represents loss, they also represent love and devotion. Add that love and devotion to nature’s beauty, and the serenity and peace that fill the area, top it off with the music of the wind chimes…and there is no doubt when we are there we are surrounded by Angels.
I know Benji was DJing from Heaven, as I watched our windchime swinging bigger than any other surrounding us. Our hearts are broken, but there is peace knowing that he is at ease, standing side by side with his brother and sister, watching over us, reminding us to follow his teachings…

Thank you all so very much for the outpouring of love for Benji, and the support for all of us! While we knew our time with Benji was limited, the suddenness of it all caught us off guard, making our grief and the processing of our loss a bit harder than we might have expected.
Reading through everyone’s comments of how he was your favorite (shhhh!), or he’s the one who brought you to following us, or that his outlook on life gave you hope and changed your own outlook, or just that you loved him (and his beard!), truly touched and melted our hearts.
Benji was an amazing little man, and we are all changed for good because we knew him!
As I said before, he was a guy of few words, and yet his message was so clear.

I’ve always been a man of few words. Asking you to mirror my actions, learn from my teachings, and just sit with me. I’ve been the wise old man at the top of the hill who offers no words, just wisdom.
We can no longer sit together physically, but I’ll always be with you in spirit. There beside you, reminding you to slow down, reminding you to smell the p*e messages, reminding you to feel the sun on your face, and the wind in your hair, reminding you to let loose and feel the beat of the music, whether it be with some kicks or some scratching tunes, reminding you to chew slowly and enjoy every bite, and reminding you that nothing is impossible…I proved that, time and time again!
They tell me that I was blind and deaf, but I never acknowledged that. I never let that news prevent me from living life to the fullest! I loved life! I loved walks! I loved nature! I loved going on hikes or bike rides or stroller rides. It was always about the adventure! I took full advantage of taking in every bit of that adventure that I could…with my nose!
Usually, my family is standing around waiting on me, but this time, I didn’t make them wait. I fought so hard until the very end, that they didn’t even realize it was the end, until it was almost over. We all got to say our goodbyes, as a family, together, outside sitting in the grass with crazy winds blowing all around us…my kind of day!

Yesterday, October 28, 2024, Benji said goodbye to us here on Earth and entered heaven, no doubt greeted by Joey & Pebbles. With our help, he gave kidney disease the best fight he could, giving us so many extra months, days and moments with him this year! Moments that included strolling and sitting on the beach, hiking in the mountains, bike rides in canyons and through Fall leaves, endless cuddles and so much love!! He may have been a quiet, reserved little man, but he is leaving a HUGE whole in our hearts and in our family!
