Our Story
Friends of El Refugio Hogar Animal Costa Ballena Inc (or simply “Friends of El Refugio”) is a nonprofit organization that was established in the United States in 2017 to raise awareness of and promote the charitable activities of El Refugio Hogar Animal Costa Ballena in Costa Rica, as well as to provide financial support when possible. Friends of El Refugio is a public charity having been granted tax-exempt status by the IRS under IRC Sec. 501(c)(3). Donations to Friends of El Refugio may be tax-deductible for U.S. taxpayers.
About El Refugio Hogar Animal Costa Ballena
Founded in early 2017, El Refugio Hogar Animal Costa Ballena (which means “The Refuge Animal Home of Costa Ballena”) is an animal rescue organization in the Costa Ballena region of southern Costa Rica.
The goal of El Refugio is to improve the welfare of dogs and cats through rescue efforts, low-cost spay/neuter and vaccination clinics, education programs, and community outreach, with a focus of rescuing and rehabilitating homeless, abandoned, and injured dogs and cats.
