🐴 March 1st is National Horse Protection Day! 🐴

Horses have given us their strength, loyalty, and partnership for centuries, yet thousands face neglect, abuse, and slaughter every year. At Healing Souls Ranch, we are dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and giving these incredible animals a second chance at life.

This month, we celebrate the resilience of rescued horses and advocate for their protection. We are especially excited to welcome two BLM Mustangs from a kill lot, where they faced a heartbreaking fate—being shipped to slaughter. Their journey is just beginning, and with time, love, and training, they will have the future they deserve.

Saying Goodbye to Two Beautiful Souls

The week before Christmas was one of the hardest we’ve faced at Healing Souls Ranch. Within just 24 hours, we said goodbye to two of our beloved horses, Kinky Boots and Chesapeake (affectionately known as Chessy). Both were in their mid-20s and spent their final years surrounded by love, care, and the peace they so deeply deserved.

When Kinky Boots and Chessy were saved from the kill lot, they had endured hardship and uncertainty. Like so many horses we rescue, they were in desperate need of safety, healing, and a place to call home. We are grateful to have been that haven for them. Seeing them thrive—learning to trust, enjoying the love and attention from our volunteers and visitors, and sharing their gentle spirits with all who met them—was a privilege we’ll never forget.

Kinky Boots now joins her yearling, who passed away before she came to us, and together with Chessy, they will be reunited with other beloved souls from our ranch—Kismet, Tater, and Hershey. Knowing they are together brings us a small measure of comfort in this time of heartbreak.

Losing them so suddenly and so close together has been incredibly difficult. But this is the sacred work of rescue: saving lives, celebrating their transformations, and, when the time comes, letting them go with dignity and love.

To Kinky Boots and Chessy: Thank you for the joy you brought to the ranch and to our hearts. You made our lives richer, and you will forever be a part of Healing Souls Ranch.

To those who support our mission, please hold your animals close. This work brings immeasurable joy, but also moments of profound loss. We do it because every life is worth saving, every story deserves a second chance, and every soul matters.

Rest peacefully, sweet Kinky Boots and Chessy. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

At Healing Souls Ranch, every horse has a story—and every story matters. Today, we’re reaching out with an urgent need for two of our cherished horses who require your help.

💔 Winter, Our Old Gray Gentleman:

Winter, our sweet and gentle senior horse, faced an unexpected injury this morning. He was kicked in the nose and had to receive stitches to repair the wound. Despite his age and the pain, Winter is as brave as ever—but the cost of emergency veterinary care is significant.

💔 Grace, Our Senior Horse is Battling Laminitis:

Today, Grace was diagnosed with laminitis, a painful and potentially debilitating condition. Treating this illness requires specialized care, from medications to hoof treatments and ongoing monitoring, to ensure she remains comfortable and on the road to recovery.

Emergency care like this comes at a high cost, but we are committed to providing these amazing animals with the love, care, and dignity they deserve.

Every dollar raised this Colorado Gives Day will go directly toward veterinary care, specialized treatments, and the ongoing support these incredible animals need.

At Healing Souls Ranch, $120 can do something truly incredible—it feeds four of our horses for an entire week. 🐴🌾 With 36 rescued horses in our care, that means we rely on at least nine large bales of hay every week to keep them nourished and healthy. ❄️🌟 During the cold winter months, we use extra hay to help our horses stay warm, providing them with the comfort and care they deserve. ❤️

🍁🎃 The countdown is almost over... Tomorrow is the day! Our first-ever Fall Festival is just hours away, and the final touches are coming together beautifully. 🎃🍁

We've been busy harvesting pumpkins, setting up, and decorating, and it looks amazing! Polly, our curious Arabian, gave the pumpkins her official sniff of approval 🐴👃✅. Deja, our loyal pup, has been overseeing every step to make sure everything is perfect. 🐶✨

And guess what? Grace and Tony had a dress rehearsal today, rocking some fabulous rainbow extensions in their manes! 🐴🌈 They're all dressed up and ready to add a splash of color and fun to the festivities.

🌟🐴 Fall Fest is just around the corner, and we couldn’t be more excited! 🍂🎃 Our big day on October 26th is fast approaching, and preparations are in full swing. One of our festival stars, Spice Girl, has been practicing her best selfies to get ready for all the fun! 📸🐴✨

We are beyond grateful for the incredible support and sense of community we've experienced this past week! 🙏

The Longmont Chamber Ribbon Cutting was a beautiful success, and we couldn’t have asked for a more supportive and welcoming group to share this milestone with. Thank you to everyone who came out to meet the horses and experience the magic of Healing Souls Ranch. A special thank you to Project Veteran Wings for bringing their incredible birds and sharing their mission with us. We look forward to welcoming them back at our October 26th Fall Fest!

In addition, our Grief Integration Workshop was a deeply moving experience. We are honored to have partnered with Tandem Wellness Center and Myline Somatic Self Defense to offer an equine experience that fostered healing and connection. Thank you to everyone who participated, shared their stories, and allowed us to walk with you through your journey of healing.

This is just the beginning, and we couldn’t do it without the love, support, and belief in our mission to transform lives through equine therapy and compassionate rescue. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you! 💛
