Samson's Sanctuary was founded by Rickie Tice who grew up surrounded by animals, and always had a need to help the mangiest of mutts. From stray dogs, cats, birds, squirrels, and anyone else that needed a little help, Rickie was there with the patience and caring they deserved on their road to rehabilitation. At Samson's we are dedicated to finding the purrrfect home for all of our rescues, no mat

ter the temperament, size, age, or anything else, we truly believe there is a home for everyone. Our motto is "Always Stay Together" inspired by Samson himself, who always wanted to make sure everyone felt safe. We must always stay together on this mission and remember that everyone deserves to feel safe at home.

Gus is loving life in his foster home and is opening up more and more each day. While you would expect a dog who’s been through the abuse that Gus has been through to be terrified of people, this sweet boy makes friends with new people so quickly and within minutes he’s asking for belly rubs 🥹

Gus would do best in an experienced home who is willing to continue his training and building his confidence. He would love to be the only puppy love you have, but has done well with other dogs when properly introduced. He is about 2 years old and 60 lbs 🤍

HAPPY GOTCHA DAY PRINCESS LEIA! 🎉🎉🎉

Princess Leia Leashwalker found her furever… with her foster fam!! 🥹

Last November, one of our foster moms found Leia abandoned in a shopping center parking lot when she was just 7 lbs and 7 weeks old. She didn’t have enough room to foster her long term so she called us for help and that’s when her now furever mom sprung into action and took her in! As expected everyone in the house fell in love with little Leia, including her doggie brother Rocket! 🥰

It just felt meant to be, and as time went on and Leia wasn’t finding her pawfect match, her mom knew it was because she already had 💖

Congrats to Leia and the whole fam!! We are so happy that she gets to stay with the only real family she’s ever known, and an amazing one at that! Leia is in for a lifetime of love and adventures 🤍 Swipe to see how much she’s grown already!

Our friend (who rescued Alum Bentley) is trying to help this sweet Boxer girl. She is 5 years old and losing the only home and family she’s ever known due to divorce. This is so incredibly unfair to her (and the kids who love her)!!

She is spayed, fully vaxxed, great with kids and other dogs. So why is she being punished?! When will people stop being so selfish?! 🤬

Oh sweet Gus 🥹

Gus and his brother were rescued from a really scary situation on Christmas Eve ‘22 and are still decompressing and learning “normal dog life.” They are in a loving foster home together, however our trainer recommended that we try to house them separately, as they are feeding off of each others insecurities. Gus especially feels the need to protect his brother, and gets extremely anxious when he’s not around. That’s how they had to survive in the past, but it’s no way for a pup to live.

Gus is looking for an experienced foster or adopter who is willing to continue the work with him on adjusting to normal home life and help him gain his independence and learn to rely on his human instead of his brother. He is a very sweet boy who just needs patience and consistency to thrive. 🤍

Midnight is getting adopted!!! 🎉

After months of patiently waiting, this sweet girl has finally found her furever family! She will be boarding her freedom flight to LAX in April and we are all so excited to meet her! 🥰

Can we all appreciate how cute this pic of Cade and his foster mom is?! 😍

Cade is a 3 year old American Bulldog and is also currently our longest resident. Cades foster mom has had him for about 8 months and even though it hasn’t always been easy she has never given up on him! 🤍

Cade is Natalie’s first big foster dog and she took it upon herself to learn everything she could about his breed, and how best to properly mentally and physically stimulate him. They do weekly lessons with and work on his training everyday. They go hiking, for playdates with other doggies, and even on vacations together! Cade is also in love with his foster dad and gets to go on even more adventures with him, what a lucky guy! 💙

We are so thankful to have committed fosters pawrents like Cades! Rescue dogs have been through so much already, the last thing they need is to be bounced around from foster to foster because people give up when challenges arise. Of course we would love all of our dogs to get adopted quickly and settle into their furever homes, but if for whatever reason it takes a little longer, it’s so beneficial for the dog to have a stable loving home until then. London says “Hey, maybe this crate thing isn’t so scary after all!” 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Unfortunately many people view using a crate as punishment, or they feel bad for putting a dog in a crate. A crate should NEVER be used as punishment, instead the dogs should be taught to view it as their safe haven!

Crates are a place where dogs can learn to self soothe, ease their own anxiety, and feel safe to retreat to if a scary situation arises such as fireworks, sirens, thunderstorms, etc.

Not to mention it’s so important in case of emergencies! Should you need to evacuate an area quickly or bring your dog to the ER, they will likely need to be crated and quickly! Do you want your dogs first time freaking out in a crate to be during an emergency? No! So teach them that it’s ok now, before that happens.

Some of our favorite ways to positively associate crates to our dogs are by playing crate games where they get a high value treat for going in on their own, or giving them something yummy to keep busy with such as a puzzle or frozen Kong!

While it can be stressful to hear your foster/furever dog cry in the crate at first, with a little time, patience, and consistency they will adjust and thank you in the long run. Remember, dogs only know what we teach them!

I’m sorry we couldn’t save you. I wish your owner wasn’t so selfish to keep you outside for show, after promising you freedom with us. You had 8 years too short of not enough living.

Magic had been missing since her owner let her out to p*e in the beginning of January and was found frozen to death after being attacked by another dog.

You deserved so much better, I hope Samson takes care of you up there and you get to run with all of your legs again 💔

One year ago today we rescued Spud from being deemed unadoptable at the shelter and today he has BIG NEWS…

HE IS GETTING ADOPTED!!! 🎉🎉🎉

That’s right!! Our funny little potato has found a wonderful family who fell in love at first sight after seeing post of him last week! His new dad is from Ireland and was given the pet name “Spud” by his new mom, can you say meant to be?! 🥔

They are so excited to welcome this special senior into their home, where he can live out his golden years and be loved unconditionally 🥹

Spud is moving up north to Canada! He will be taking a road trip mid February to meet his loving pawrents and 2 chihuahua siblings. Stay tuned for his adventures!

We love you Spud, and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate your rescueversary 🤍

Do you know why Sweeneys name is Sweeney?

Before we rescued Sweeney, we had agreed to rescue 5 girls from a different litter (same age) in Texas. The careless and neglectful ACO put a boy we didn’t originally pull in with our initial transport, and when he got to the vet immediately after leaving the ACC he was already almost dead. We named him Wyatt, a name that means brave warrior, in hopes that he would pull through. The other sisters were not doing well either and couldn’t even be vaccinated until they gained some strength. We knew there were at least 5 other puppies left in those conditions and we had to get them out.

We rushed back to get the rest of the pups and their mamas and named the boys names that meant strong, warrior, etc in hopes that it would give them the strength to survive and make it to LA. Hercules, Finley, and Sweeney. Unfortunately Wyatt crossed the rainbow bridge only a day or so later. But he is the reason we saved the rest of them. He is his siblings guardian angel.

Sweeney means “young warrior”“the little hero” and it also means “pleasant.” If you know Sweeney and his story you know he is the most pleasant little warrior ever. He’s survived so much already, malnourishment, disease, surgeries, the list goes on 😭 and he’s STILL always happy, always ready to give and receive love. He deserves the best furever home 🤍
