Happy 4th of July from our team at PAC!🐾✨ Let's make sure our furry friends stay safe during the festivities. Please keep an eye out for your four-legged friends today. Fireworks are fun, but they can make stressed and anxious (and even get them hurt). Here is a king reminder with some additional tips to keep in mind:

DON'T: Leave your pet outside unattended. It’s normal for your pet to be outside when you're not there, but they might run away when they hear loud firecrackers.

DON'T: Allow to roam freely at gatherings, picnics, and barbecues where potentially dangerous food and beverages are within reach. Most dogs enjoy digging around for scraps, and it doesn't take much (a cup of beer, a chocolate cookie) to make them sick.

DON'T: Assume your pets are interested in the same Independence Day experience as you are. Just like during travel, it's easy to forget that pets aren't humans and their needs are different. You may enjoy fireworks, but they don't. Focus on keeping them safe & happy, not how much fun they should be having.

Here's what you can DO instead:

DO: Keep your pet on as regular a routine as possible. Make sure to keep them on the same schedule and fit in plenty of exercise to reduce anxiety.

DO: Make sure pets have ID tags that are up-to-date. In the past, many pets have escaped during the Fourth of July holiday. It’s a good idea to be prepared in case one happens. Check out today our PAC medical services for Microchipping & Registration - $60 & up - pac.pet.

DO: Find a safe place for your pet, like a room with a door or a kennel. When the house gets crowded and fireworks start going off outside, your pet might just be craving some peace and quiet.

Share your own tips and tricks in the comments and have a pawsome and safe Fourth of July, American pet lovers!

Attention residents of Los Angeles County and the greater region! 📢 It’s been issued an urgent public safety alert as a Rabid Bat was found dead on the sidewalk near Justin Ave & Bel Aire Dr. in Glendale 91201 on June 7, 2023. 🦇
📢 Rabies - is a serious viral infection that affects the nervous system and can be transmitted to humans through bites or scratches from infected animals. Rabid bats have been found in most parts of Los Angeles County.
🦇 Mortality Rates - There is no effective treatment for Rabies infections in humans or animals and it has a HIGH mortality rate in both.
⚠️ Euthansia - must be conducted if a pet bites another person or animal and the Vet determines there is no current Rabies vaccine. Please, we urge you to protect your pets! We won’t go into details here but it is a BRUTAL process as unvaccinated pets who bite someone or another animal need to be sent to the CDC for testing.
As we are currently entering what is considered to be the “bat season” - see the Chart above - , the Veterinary Public Health of LA County shared important information on how to protect yourself, your children and your pets from rabies.
Bats inside houses (bats have tiny teeth that may not leave a mark or wake a sleeping person)
- Keep windows and doors tightly fitted with screens so bats do not find their way inside a house easily
- Do not release bats that are found inside houses, instead call animal control so testing can be done
Children (who may not admit to parents/adults that they have touched a bat)
- Teach children what bats look like, to contact an adult if they ever see one, and to never touch a bat with bare hands
Dogs/cats (who may contract rabies from contact with bats on the ground or inside the home)
- Be sure to keep your pets up to date with their rabies vaccinations (even indoor only cats)
If you find a bat that is inside of your house or acting abnormally/sick outside of your house, please call your local animal control for assistance (could be Pasadena Humane Society 626-792-7151 or Burbank Animal Shelter 818-238-3340 depending on where you live).
💉 To safeguard the health of your beloved pets, ensure they are up-to-date on their rabies vaccines. This is crucial for both indoor-only cats and dogs, as well as those that spend time outdoors.
Schedule now a checkup and Rabies vaccine booster and/or Titers Test with PAC veterinarian here: book.pac.pet

We know it’s hard to lose a pet, and we believe that animals deserve the same respect in their aftercare as they did in life. Dr. Burns built the company around that philosophy because she wanted to honor the memory of beloved Sassy.
“I will always be grateful for everything Sassy🐾❤️ has done for me, and PAC is my way to honor her.”
“After I lost Sassy, I knew I wanted to provide a private, in-home veterinary service for animals. It was simple! Create a veterinary experience that gives owners convenience, provides pets comfort and a thorough exam, and offers routine services/ diagnostics.”
We offer gentle aftercare for your loved one. On this World Pet Memorial Day we wanted to talk to you about Aquamation. When talking about Aquamation, it is important to know that this is the natural process also known as alkaline hydrolysis. Using water flow, temperature and alkalinity, it is more like natural decomposition when compared to other methods like traditional fire cremation.
It’s hard to say goodbye to such a special companion. PAC is by your side during this difficult time in the privacy of your home.
Learn more on the website: https://pac.pet/pages/end-of-life-services
To honor this special Pet Memorial Day, please share with us your heart about your beloved pet. What was your pet's name? What made them special to you? 🐕💓🐈

04/11/2023

Pet First Aid Kit - is a kit you should have next to your first aid kit for your family. April is Pet First Aid Awareness Month and, as a pet owner, you should make sure to have these basic for your pets to deal with medical emergencies, starting with phone numbers (to the emergency clinic in your area, your veterinarian or the Animal Poison Control Center).

Here is a checklist from American Veterinary Medical Association:

_Gauze: used for wrapping wounds or muzzling an injured animal
_Nonstick bandages, towels, or strips of clean cloth: to control bleeding or protect wounds
_Adhesive tape for bandages: for securing the gauze wrap or bandage
_Milk of magnesia | Activated charcoal: to absorb poison
_Hydrogen peroxide (3%): to induce vomiting
_Digital thermometer
_Eye dropper (or large syringe without needle): used to give oral treatments or flush wounds
_Muzzle (in an emergency a rope, necktie, soft cloth, nylon stocking, small towel may be used)
_Leash
_Stretcher (in an emergency a door, board, blanket or floor mat may be used): to keep the injured animal stable and prevent injury while it is being transported.

First aid care will be followed by immediate veterinary care. This is not a replacement for vet care, but it may save your pets’ life until it gets veterinary attention and treatment. And remember that pet medical emergencies don’t just happen at home. Bring the pet first aid kit when you go pet camping or on vacation out of the area!🦮🐕

❗❗Attention! Items like Milk of magnesia, activated charcoal, or Hydrogen peroxide will ALWAYS be given AFTER you contact your veterinarian or your local poison control center. Also, do NOT use human adhesive bandages on pets.

Spring is in the air! Make sure your pet is up-to-date on !
Did you know that heartworm disease can be easily prevented with monthly medication? It’s true, prevention is key when it comes to .
Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal disease that can harm both dogs and cats.
❗ Heartworm is passed from mosquito bites. The parasite is injected into the bloodstream and develops into a detectable parasite within 6-7 months. Most blood tests detect the parasite, but only female parasites are detectable. If your pet is NEGATIVE for a heartworm test, we have confirmed that there is no detection of a female parasite, but can have male parasites. We detect females since they are the ones hatching/ laying more parasites and can cause the medicine effects/ trauma of heartworm.
❗ If your pet is NOT on , it is REQUIRED to have a blood test to detect if your pet has the parasite. If this test is NEGATIVE, veterinarians are comfortable providing a product that will continue to prevent growth of this parasite. ❗ If your pet is POSITIVE, giving your pet a preventative versus giving a treatment, can risk causing high death of the parasite population which can cause congestion of the heart and result in pet death.
❗ If your pet is on Heartworm preventative, but you missed a dose or two, this is why it is recommended to test for Heartworm before giving your pet preventative.

It’s time to celebrate the unconditional love that are giving to us and the unmeasurable joy that they bring to our lives and homes.
Meet Eli, a 9-months old puppy that belongs to Dr. Burns, our local PAC veterinarian! Playful, happy and energetic pup, Eli loves to romp around the park and make new friends. Eli is always up for a game of fetch, and he never fails to put a smile on our faces with his boundless energy and enthusiasm!
Aaand if you need some examples on how to celebrate this day, here’s a list:
– adopt a puppy from a shelter: visit your local shelter and give a puppy a chance for life.
– watch a documentary on puppy mills
– donate money and/or your time to the local shelter or an animal organization that supports and helps stray animals. These shelters are always short of people to help them feed the animals, play with them, socialize and clean.
Raise awareness on social media with us by sharing this post!

Attention all pet owners! The human world can be incredibly scary for anxious dogs! On March 20, Dogs in Yellow Day raises awareness about anxiety and reactive dogs.
and in dogs can be caused by a variety of factors such as genetics, past trauma, lack of socialization, or even medical issues. It's important to understand that these behaviors are not the dog's fault and can be managed with proper training and support.
Signs to Look for in Your Dog:
1️⃣Excessive Barking or Whining: If your dog is constantly barking or whining, it could be a sign of anxiety or stress.
2️⃣Aggression: An anxious or reactive dog may become aggressive towards other dogs, people, or even objects.
3️⃣Hiding or Avoidance: If your dog is hiding or avoiding certain situations or people, it could be a sign of anxiety.
4️⃣Restlessness or Pacing: Anxious dogs may pace, pant, or appear restless even when they are not being physically active.
5️⃣Excessive Licking or Chewing: Some dogs may excessively lick or chew on their paws or other body parts when they are feeling anxious.
Please be patient! Remember that managing anxiety and reactivity in dogs is a process. You can book a Wellness Exam with our PAC veterinarians and work together to make your dog happier. 🐕💛🐾🐕‍🦺

Have you taken your cat to the for a f***l analysis lately?

F***l analysis is an important part of your cat's health check-up. It helps identify any parasites, such as worms or protozoans, that may be lurking in your cat's intestines. These can cause a range of health issues, from minor discomfort to serious illness.

It's important to have your cat's f***l analysis done annually, or more frequently if recommended. This is especially true if your cat goes outside or comes into contact with other animals, as they may be more susceptible to parasites.

So, don't forget to schedule your cat's f***l analysis with our vet today. Your cat will thank you for it! 🐈🐈
