Golden years dog sanctuary is our way to help senior dogs. My husband and I rescue senior dogs from local shelters to give them the best of the rest of their life. Living in a semi-rural canyon outside Los Angeles dogs were dumped at our horse farm all the time. When the dogs stopped being dumped; we went to the shelters instead. we always went for the older, less attractive, dogs that no one else

wanted. Since we could only have 3 dogs in Los Angeles county, even though we own 11 acres; we obtained an excessive animal permit. Now we can have up to 18 dogs at a time. we became a 501c so those who would like to help up feed and care for these dogs can make their contribution tax deductible. We have expanded our rescue efforts by fostering dogs as well as always having 18 at the sanctuary. join us in saving a life: Foster or adopt today.

I love the new year. A chance for new beginnings. A time to set goals and push forward with joy. The first week with all these fires has been the worst start to this year. While our property has not been in the line of any of 5 fires around us, we have been on fire watch for days. And....before the gates of hell opened on Los Angeles, we rescued this awesome almost 10 year old boxer mix who was past his 72 hour notice and could have been killed at anytime. So meet Cardamom, aka MO from the castaic shelter. We had our eye on him and wanted to pull him, yet we were having trouble finding a foster. After two fosters backed out, we found the perfect foster. it's someone who actually knew mo before he was owner surrendered to the shelter.He was so excited to get mo and is going to give him the best of the rest of his life. How many cute pictures of this awesome dog do I have to post to get conductor a home? This amazing sweet, playful dog desperately needs a forever home. Even a foster home would help. Our sanctuary is to give dogs the best of the rest of their lives...but conductor is not having that. He is stressed about the horses and while he is good with other dogs, doesn't do well in a pack situation. We are safe. The last few days have been highly insane. The City of Los Angeles is experiencing an inferno. It breaks our hearts to see the destruction. we live in the high fire zone. We're aware that fires can come through here and we prepare with vegetation clearance and creating a defensible space around our home. The city in Los Angeles, Pacific Palisades, Hollywood hills, Glendale and Pasadena are not fire areas. They're not supposed to burn. They weren't prepared for it. It is so heartbreaking to know that so many people have lost their homes and that some people lost their lives. We are forever thankful that no fire came through our property, and we are so grateful for the care and concern that people have shown us with emails, phone calls, text messenger and comments on our posts. It's a crazy world out there, and we can only make it through if we all stick together. As I write this, I'm standing on the hill looking over my property. Edison with their infinite stupidity, has decided that when the winds are high, they should turn off the power. They leave us as sitting ducks, we run on a well out here in our high fire zone. and we need that power to run our well and pressure pump so we have water to fight fires. Without power, we have no phone and internet.We have been blind and dumb to what's been going on unless I come on the hill or I leave my property. thank you to everyone. Please do your part and stay safe, support those who have lost their homes, and continue to be a voice of change for the better I whatever cause has meaning for you.

When the high winds come, it's never a matter of if there's gonna be a fire, it's always. Where is there going to be a fire? Our hearts go out to everyone in Pacific Palisades. Altadena Pasadena Sylmar, Sun Valley, and everywhere there are fires burning. For a moment this morning, the winds are calm. The force of the winds were so strong last night. It shook the house and threw rocks from 50 feet away onto our windows. The power went out around four thirty in the morning.We haven't slept in thirty six hours. there is no fire in our Canyon, but from the hillside, we could see the plume of the Eaton fire. We hope these winds stop soon, and we can get all these fires under control, may everybody and their animals be safe. # firewatch # firestorm

This poor cat didn't even have a name! Well, now he does. meet Walter from the Baldwin Park. Shelter, he came in as a stray on December 26th. The vet estimated his age to be 15 years. He's really dehydrated and his pupils are dilated. I'm not sure how much he can see, but he can certainly walk around and he has a great appetite. We'll get him to the vet early next week, and we will do everything we can to give him the best of the rest of his life. We can't do this without your help. Before and after..this is our sweet Calvin, aka honor, . Calvin came to the North Central shelter on December 8th as a stray with a possible owner. But no one came for him. He was shut down and the question was: is he depressed or sick,? we rescued him on December 31st, we immediately took him to the vet and all his blood work looked normal. a few days in his new home, and look at him now! He's already standing up straight and holding his head up. His foster has said that he's starting to wag his tail, and she's so excited to see him happy and relaxed in his forever home!

What a year!! We rescued 76 senior dogs in 2924! (Instagram only lets us share 20 pictures) This is the first time since our Inception in 2017 that we have not only reached our goal; we exceeded our target goal. We also rescued 50 cats this year. We can't do this without your help. It's a new year. Let's make a resolution. Volunteer just give 1 hour a week or 2 hours a month at your local animal rescue. We would definitely appreciate your help! Join us one day a week and walk the dogs, or brush themand love on them. We need help sharing our posts on social media. Hey! Look who made it out of the building. This is honor, from the north Central shelter. His new name is Calvin, and we were so glad that we could save him. Calvin came to the shelter on December 9th, and he was orange alerted by the end of the week because he moves slow and seems depressed. We know better that depression is more likely something wrong with him. We are at the vet now getting blood work done. Luckily he was given an extension and someone reached out to us saying that they would forever foster, we're so grateful for our fosters. It allows us to rescue so many more dogs. What a great way to end 2024, with our 76th dog of the year! We can't do this without your help. Foster, volunteer, donate and/or share our posts. Lila needs a home!! We are fostering her for the castaic shelter. She was brought in with several other cats. She is only 2 years old. She was friendly until her spay and then something changed. She was fearful and hissing. Now, she allows us to pet her and pick her up. She is good with other cats and would do well with feline friends in her forever home. There are other cats at the shelter that we need to foster, but we don't have space, so we need to get Lila a home as soon as possible. Our Story

Now a 501c3 non-profit organization! Our mission is to provide a loving home to at-risk and senior dogs and to foster at risk cats and kittens.

My husband and I started Golden Years Dog Sanctuary to help senior dogs. We love to rescue senior dogs from local shelters to give them love and freedom until their time is up. Living in a semi-rural canyon outside Los Angeles dogs were dumped at our horse farm all the time. When the dogs stopped being dumped; I went to the shelters instead. I always went for the older, less attractive, dogs that no one else wanted. Since we could only have 3 dogs in Los Angeles county, even though we own 11 acres; we obtained an excessive animal permit. Now we can have up to 18 dogs at a time.

I also volunteer at the Los Angeles County Castaic Animal Shelter. We started fostering unweaned and weaned kittens in 2017. We fostered 30 kittens and momma cats in 2017. Most of these kittens need extra veterinarian care and special food. We paid for those costs ourselves because it was important for us to fight for these kittens and help them become healthy enough to adopt.

In 2018, I asked if we could also work with the “feral” cats. Any cat that hisses, strikes, tries to bite, or is otherwise unmanageable when it comes into the shelter is deemed a “Caution” or feral cat. Most of those cats get euthanized. Since the beginning of 2018, we have worked with nearly a dozen of these ‘feral” cats, helping them overcome their fears and finding them loving homes.
