OUR HISTORY: In 2010, Sara Bear and Bounty Girl came to Venice, CA with their Mom and Dad to escape from the cold, blustery winters of Boston. Sara Bear, however, was not always a fan of the ocean. But when she arrived in Venice, after a 2 week trek across the country, she got out of the van, held her head high, turned her nose up, and followed the smell of the

ocean. She set her paws on the sandy beach and never wanted to leave. She has finally found her home! Bounty and Sara have always had special dietary needs. Bounty suffers severely from food allergies (corn, peanut butter, egg, barley, etc.). Then last year, the vet discovered that Sara gained a lot of weight because of thyroid related problems. Her protein intake needed to be minimized. Months later it was found that she also suffered from Cushing's disease. To help meet the girls' dietary needs and maintain their health, Sara and Bounty's Mom decided it was time to make healthy and tasty dog treats using natural ingredients. The girls loved the treats and just couldn't wait to devour them. Pretty soon Sara and Bounty were sharing their treats with the neighborhood dogs. Not too long after that the neighborhood dog "parents" started requesting to buy the treats. So this is how Hungry Dawgz of Dogtown came to life :-)

Hungry Dawgz Organic and Natural Treats are human grade treats for your four-legged best friends. They are made fresh locally (gluten free, lactose free, wheat free) and are inspired by two beautiful and sweet sisters and best friends, Sara Bear and Bounty Girl, local and loyal residents of Dogtown!

To everyone affected by the LA fires—whether you’ve lost a home, a sense of safety, or simply feel the weight of this tragedy—please know you’re not alone.

This is a heavy time in our community, and we wanted to offer support and a time to gather and talk about our broken hearts over the recent fires.

On Tuesday, January 14st, at 6:00 PM PT, Liz Hernandez, Patty Rodriguez, David Kessler and Frank Anderson MD will be hosting a free online event to support you through the emotions, anxiety, grief and loss so many are feeling right now.

This session will be a compassionate space to:
Understand how grief shows up in times of crisis.
Learn tools to ease emotional overwhelm.
Feel the connection and support of a caring community.

Eaton Fire Update: We have taken in over 100 animals overnight and are continuing to take in animals for emergency boarding. Due to the proximity of the evacuation zones, we are also making preparations to evacuate the shelter, if needed. At this time, all animals are safe and unharmed at the shelter.

We continue to accept animals for emergency boarding at our Animal Resource Center at 361 S. Raymond Avenue, Pasadena, 91105.

Large animals should be taken to the LA Equestrian Center, 480 Riverside Dr, Burbank, CA 91506.

We are currently coordinating with Cal Animals and ASPCA disaster response to mobilize more resources to assist with the situation.

To help, we ask that anyone who can safely foster a dog or a cat for at least one week to please come to the Pasadena Humane Foster Office or email [email protected]. Our greatest need is for large dog fosters. Please note that we do not have in-home history on most animals in our care and are unsure how they get along with other pets.

This is the second dog in the last two weeks that we’ve had come in to our hospital with this type of bone stuck around it’s mandible. Separate companies but the EXACT same design.

Please do NOT buy this type of bone for your pup! It’s not worth the risk. Luckily for this patient, our technician was able to wiggle it free but our previous patient was under general anesthesia for nearly a half hour while we went through every tool in our arsenal to saw through both sides of the bone safely.
Both dogs are lucky that they did not end up with lacerations or broken teeth.
