This is a rough draft of something I started a couple of years ago and didn’t finish. This July 4th, I am away from the USA, wishing I could be with our little sensitive cat Shimmy who is on gabapentin (hopefully doing OK). I have friends whose backyards are catching on fire, and whose animals are traumatized. What the heck are we celebrating, anyway?
