Kitty Bungalow Charm School for Wayward Cats Kitty Bungalow Charm School for Wayward Cats TNR's cats and rescues undersocialized kittens in LA

Kitty Bungalow Charm School for Wayward Cats socializes feral kittens, taking hissy little babies and turning them into purring little lap cats. We believe in force love and provide a cage free environment and one-on-one attention to each feral kitten. Through physical exercises and delicious food bribes, Charm School volunteer teachers earn the trust and love of the kittens, and bring them to the

understanding that there is a wonderful human home waiting to give them the love and security they deserve. Upon graduation, these kittens continue to blossom in their new homes growing into the most wonderful house cats a family could desire.

Meet Marty! He came to us from a local LA shelter as a stray, covered in scars and missing most of the fur on his tail. He was angry, hissing and striking at the shelter staff.

Despite his rough state, we saw a scared kitty that needed a second chance. We took him and placed him in adult school to heal and decompress until we found him his new home.

In a safe environment, Marty’s true personality emerged. He warmed up to people, no longer hissing or striking. When a family in Santa Clarita requested a friendly working cat, we knew it would be a great fit.

Marty and his coworkers (fellow working cats Olivia & Gracie) are now enjoying their new enclosure while they acclimate to their new address. In a few weeks, they will be allowed to roam free and perform their daily duties as “new employees.”

Will you make a $5 donation today to support our working cat program?

It’s Medical Monday over here at Charm School and today is a happy one! Last week, everyone’s favorite chocolate boy, Russell Stover, completed his last day of 84 days of FIP treatment. Woohoo! 🎉 We are excited that he has graduated from the treatment period and now moves on to the observation period of post treatment monitoring. Despite his less than thrilled face, Russell is excited to be well on his way to becoming a FIP legend. 💪

All of us at Kitty Bungalow can’t thank you enough for supporting us and Russell through this process. He has a new lease on life thanks to all your donations to our School Nurse Fund. 🩺 It’s only with your support that we are able to help special cases like FIP kittens. ❤️

Introducing our very special new Student, Larry David, who was enrolled in Charm School after being rescued by our partner rescue, Hope for Paws. As you can see, Larry David might look a little different in comparison to most kittens and that’s because he has a condition known as Hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus occurs when there is excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) on the brain, also known as “water on the brain”. This condition can be seen in other animals, even humans! While his condition may appear alarming, it can be managed with medication and/or depending on the severity with a very particular surgery. While we don’t know what Larry’s future may look like or if he will be with us for very long, we will definitely make sure his days are full of love and that he is always kept comfortable. He is currently situated in a medically experienced foster where he is receiving the best care! With that being said, if you’d like to learn more about becoming a medically trained foster to help more critical cats and kittens like Larry, take that leap and fill out a foster application today. You never know how rewarding it is unless you try! 💖

Here at Charm School 📚, we’re just like any other school - We’ve got the over achievers and the under achievers! This week we present to you Charm School’s edition of the Beans list and the Detention list.

Hercules is earning himself a few days in Detention after school this week for being irrationally hangry and talking back to the Teacher. 👨‍🏫

Abigail, our star Student has made the Beans list for welcoming our new Students and showing them around campus. Thank you Abigail for going above and beyond to make sure our Students feel welcomed. 🍎

Both these Students are available for adoption and are ready to Graduate! 🎓

Introducing Dune, Chani, Irulan, Harkonnen & Arteides on this edition of Medical Monday 🩺! This adorable family was enrolled in Charm School via our TNR program after a community partner noticed they needed medical attention. Mom and babies were in rough shape - filthy, a nasty upper respiratory which affected all the kittens eyes and not to mentioned, horrible diarrhea on top of it all. Turns out their upper respiratory infection was calici virus which is highly contagious to other kitties. Poor Mama also had a case of very uncomfortable mastitis due to nursing. But after some time with our school nurse, these kittos started to turn a corner and were sent off to enjoy the perks of foster care. Thanks to our amazing foster, these guys have room to recover, run around and grow into the best Students they can be until it’s their turn to Graduate. Mama Dune is spayed and is one of the most affectionate & beautiful kitties we’ve met! If you’re interested in adopting, please fill out one of our applications online!

We will be discounting adoption fees in hopes of helping our A+ Students find their forever homes. What could be better than adopting a new feline furrriend to spend your summer with?!Interested in adopting a kitten? Stop by 📍PETCO in Westwood this Saturday & Sunday, from 12-4 pm! We will have a bundle of adoptable kittens to meet with!

Did you know that four years ago, the California Ecosystems Protection Act was enacted, prohibiting certain types of poisons known as second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs)? These substances are particularly detrimental to wildlife, pets, and potentially even humans.

When mice and rats consume the poison, they become toxic prey for other animals. This leads to secondary poisoning and the unfortunate demise of non-target species such as hawks, owls, mountain lions, coyotes, and domestic pets.

Kitty Bungalow’s working cat program offers a safe, poison-free alternative for pest control, keeping our neighborhoods clean and safe.

Help us continue this important program by make a donation today. 💚

Did you know that KB “employs” four working cats here on site at the Bungalow? Francis, Raccoon Tail, Eileen and Jesse have all found homes here over the years and are basically part of the Charm School faculty.

While our gang here on site aren’t your typical working cats, they are great examples of how all types of cats can thrive in this program. Each cat has their own individual personality affecting their level of comfort with staff and volunteers.

Eileen, whom most may know as our greeter, or, as we like to call her, our “Director of Volunteer Engagement,” is our class social butterfly! She is a gal who wants to be seen - and heard. In fact, she even sends out a weekly newsletter to our volunteer network with fun tips and tricks for the week.

Raccoon Tail comes and goes as she pleases. Does she commute to her day job? Does she have a tom cat kibble-daddy? We’ll never know, but she is a free spirit and we love her for that.

Francis and Jesse are the security and patrol the back of the Bungalow. They keep a watchful eye on everything, especially making sure we are all doing our jobs. While Francis might come close enough for a quick pet, Jesse prefers her space. A lot of space at that!

While the world of cats is ever-expanding, our Working Cat Program will always be dedicated to helping those most in need to ensure they get a second chance at life.

We have the capacity to save even more unsocialized cats from the shelter...

But we need your help. Will you help us raise $15,000 to build another working cat enclosure?

But wait, there’s more!

A very generous anonymous donor has offered to MATCH the first $5,000 donated. That means your gift will be DOUBLED, and so will your impact to this amazing program.

Thank you for all your do for the cats. ❤️

Do you remember Crusty? We first introduced you to him and his siblings back in November after they were abandoned outside in a cardboard box. Crusty was the runt of the litter, and needed the most help. He hasn’t had the easiest road so far - first being abandoned with a nasty upper respiratory infection, then shortly after was positive for ringworm. Once the ringworm was treated, he ended up with strange skin lesions but normal blood work.

We were stumped, and Crusty was sent to the vet. At the vent they biopsied the lesions, but ended up having to stay overnight with a fever. With new bloodwork we learned that it was what we had feared: FIP. Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a viral disease of cats caused by certain strains of a virus called the feline coronavirus.

As the third case of FIP this year, we’re grateful that we have such a solid support system from all of you. We’ve never encountered this much FIP in such a short time, on top of the other more common illnesses we see everyday. This added expense has thrown us for a loop, but we are so appreciative of your gifts to the School Nurse Fund, which directly pay for all the (pricey!) FIP treatment Crusty will need over the next 77 days.

The good news is that Crusty had been on his meds for a whole week and we are already seeing an improvement. We will be sure to keep you posted on how he and his fellow FIP treated buddies, Bluey & Russell Stover are doing throughout their process. Thank you for being there for the cats. ❤️

Our first quarter of 2024 is looking good! So far, we've helped 116 students find their forever homes, given 84 working cats a second chance at life, and have TNR's 922 community cats!

We've been able to help so many cats this year thanks to a generous grant from Best Friends Animal Society and NKLA! Their grant allows us to work with local city shelters to help save the most vulnerable feline population 💗

04/29/2024

Panang Curry and siblings Pad Thai, Tofu Satay, and Tom Yum arrived at Kitty Bungalow from a local city shelter. Upon arrival, we immediately noticed their eyelids were a little wonky, so we scheduled the soonest appointment with our vet. The litter was diagnosed with eyelid agenesis, a condition in which their upper eyelid is not fully formed.

In order to fully assess and treat their condition, they are all going to need appointments to be seen by a veterinary ophthalmologist. They also are potentially going to need to get their upper eyelashes permanently removed, in a procedure called cryoepilation, where the hair follicles are frozen. This will allow them to live their lives without the irritation of the eyelashes constantly grazing their eyeballs.

As with all things medical, all this comes at a hefty cost. Since all four siblings will need advanced medical care, we kindly ask for your help in raising funds to cover the estimated value of the surgery. Any amount helps us significantly and gives the Thai food litter a chance at a more comfortable life!
