LA's Dog Trainer

LA's Dog Trainer LA's Dog Trainer provides private and group training for people and their dogs. The face of LA's Dog Trainer is Jacqueline Gaillard.

Behavior modification, better communication, overcoming fears and reactivity, workshops, pool safety and more. Jacqueline has used her expertise in dog training to give back to the community by volunteering for the East Valley Animal Shelter in Van Nuys, CA. She trains dogs that would otherwise be killed because they keep getting passed by for other younger, calmer dogs. Many of these dogs' only f

ault is that they are too exuberant and previous owners didn't know how to handle them so they ended up at the shelter. Working with dogs that need a little extra attention and that require someone with a deep understanding of animal behavior and motivation is Jacqueline's specialty. With her CGC Evaluator credential, Jacqueline knows what it takes for a dog to be a "Good Citizen" in the home and out in public. In order to obtain her degrees, she had to work with numerous other species at school and other animal parks. Having completed externships at the San Diego Wild Animal Park, Los Angeles Zoo, and Santa Barbara Zoo she has used her knowledge of training wild animals to train the easier species, the dog. Jacqueline also volunteers a few days a month at the Wildlife Waystation in the Angeles National Forest. This allows her to keep in touch with the wilder species and benefit from deepening her experience in Animal Behavior and Management. The common thread in training all these animals, including dogs, is that they respond very well to positive reinforcement training. A great example is that you cannot pull the dominance game with the Tiger. How do you think that training session would end?

Sometimes pups are not ready to meet nose to nose.
Whether they are shy or reactive, they almost all want to sniff/smell other dogs.
Scent is extremely important to dogs!
They get a lot of information from how another dog smells such as:
Are you male or female?
Are you spayed or neutered?
Do you smell like other dogs or animals?
And so much more!!!
We love using this technique to help facilitate safe meet & greets.
In this video: Rex (Chihuahua) is reactive to other dogs while Bleu (Miniature Dauschand) is a puppy without a care in the world ๐ŸŒŽ.

Sometimes joining our Puppy Socialization hour involves a gradual introduction.

During his first few visits, Freddie stayed in the"VIP" section, a smaller gated off area where newbies and smaller or calmer dogs can hang out before being integrated into the main puppy play area. The main play area is where things can be a little more fast-moving and forward, so a slow intro is helpful โœจ

This was Freddie's first time with our "regulars" and he did a great job inviting Rusty to play! ๐Ÿถ

Can you stop and chat with your neighbor when walking your dog? ๐Ÿถ Our Intermediate Obedience class prepares you and your dog to pass the Canine Good Citizen program (CGC)-- we use the CGC criteria as a goal to reach desired behaviors in public. We practice the behaviors you will be expected to complete during the CGC test until you and your dog are comfortable enough to take and pass the test. The majority of dogs that complete the Intermediate Obedience class pass their CGC the first time!

If you would like your dog to be more comfortable in public and have a better level of trust with you and others, this class will help you achieve that goal.

About the AKC Canine Good Citizen program: the CGC is an expert-made training program designed to help you and your dog be the best you can be-- together. Canine Good Citizen is a 10-skill test that teaches good manners to dogs, and responsible dog ownership to their owners.

New classes start in January, sign up and get your spot now!
