Hullo FB friends! We hope you’re all doing well this holiday season. ❄️
We apologize for not keeping this page as up to date as we do on our Instagram account. For some reason it stopped posting to both accounts automatically.
Anywhooo we’re all well, busy and tired rescuers but we are out here in the trenches cleaning cages, giving meds and forever trying to figure out how to squeeze more in.

🎄Piggies pictured are fluffy baby Tulip who was one of our Thanksgiving weekend rescues and Delilah who was found on the Culver City hiking trail.

Wishing our beloved co-founder Valerie a very happy birthday today 🧁 where to even begin with how much she means to us! She gives her whole self to animals in need. Her creativity, her wealth of knowledge and her capacity to love is limitless. We couldn’t do this without her! She is no doubt running around today, rescuing animals, feeling anxious about the election, taking care of business, sending all our love to you Valerie, HBD!! 😘🐾💗

Guinea pigs are being abandoned at a shockingly high rate and we've had a number of intakes who came to us in worse shape than they were found because their caretakers didn't know how to care for them at all.

We created a new guide on our website about what to do if you find a guinea pig, how to capture, house, properly feed and where to reach out for help.

Please feel free to share if it may help anyone you know, thank you so much!

This is a quick guide for anyone who has just found guinea pigs and needs to know what to do immediately to keep them alive while you seek assistance and work on a long term plan.

Meet Vegas! This handsome boy was given up because the old owner “couldn’t stand the squeals”…..ummm you mean wheeking? One of the cutest sounds around? 😢 Put friend Wendy reached out to us about him and I told her that SCGPR could bring him into our rescue IF she could foster because we simply don’t have room. So Wendy has taken him in and we’re hoping to find him a loving home. He’s currently being fostered in Ventura County so if you’re in that area and would like to meet him let us know! We can also help transport him. We just want him to find a good home. Thank you Wendy! ❤️

Two more survivors from the horrific Las Vegas Hoarding case. Meet Homer and Bart! These two were among the 38 rescued by fellow piggy lover and good samaritan Ann. They e been in her care for the last couple of months and are now ready to find a wonderful home of their own. These boys have been through so so much in their short lives. We think they’re under a year old and even though they’re still learning to trust people, they are as sweet as can be. We’re hoping that someone between here and Las Vegas will be the ones to give them an amazing forever home. Contact us or Kacey if you’re interested in giving them a home❤️

Introducing Lenny & Toby making their debut! Lenny has been with us for nearly 2 years waiting for a buddy. He was paired up with baby Toby and now they are ready for their forever home. They’ll need a big cage and some enrichment to keep from getting bored. Little Toby can be a bit of a bully when he gets bored so if you’ve got time to spend with them, and you can keep them entertained (we can always help with enrichment ideas) please get in touch! Application on our website - link in bio 😘😘

Meet Patches, he’s one of the survivors from the horrible Vegas hoarding case and was one of the lucky 38 originally rescued by friend Ann. Of the 38 took all of the girls and Ann still has the remaining boys. We’re hoping to network them and get them into homes and will be posting this week.
Ann has done an incredible job and you can see how much weight Patches has put on in just a few months. She’s truly an angel for jumping in to save these guys. Ann isn’t a rescue, just a fellow piggy mama and lover who had to help. Stay tuned here to meet the rest of the boys ❤️

Marker update ❤️
Foster mama kit has been working overtime this week hand feeding Marker and running back and forth to the vet. Earlier in the week his incision was ooozing pus so she rushed him back to where they looked over his teeth and switched him to baytril. The teeth looked good but we think he’s just not used to them and hasn’t gotten the hang of eating on his own.
The day after baytril was started he started showing signs that he wasn’t feeling the best, lower energy and fighting hand feedings more BUT the incision was no longer ooozing and looked pretty good.
Despite also getting probiotics and being hand fed around the clock, he’s still looking pretty blah and not eating on his own.
Baytril intolerance is something that we have experienced many times over the years so today he goes back to the vet so we can decide the best way to move forward.
We’re not giving up on this boy and will keep fighting for him. He’s got a will to live and after all he’s been through deserves a happy and healthy life.
We will update you all on Monday. Until then keep sending him love and healing vibes. ❤️❤️

This little piggy was found in a shoebox on a sidewalk in South Gate, Los Angeles a couple days ago. Is there anyone nearby who could help gender? Or help in any other way? We have no idea what to do with the amount of pigs in need right now 🤯

Marker made it through his surgery today!
He’s home resting and doing well, this boy is a fighter!

He had 2 procedures which were the adjustment to his teeth as they had significant tongue entrapment and his incisors were elongated. He also had the eye removed which went well. There was an abscess present that was affecting the eye and socket. The vet has placed antibiotic beads in the area which will release antibiotics over the next 5 weeks. The vet also submitted a culture to make sure we are using the appropriate antibiotics.

Foster mom Kit will be caring for him as he recovers, he is in the best hands.

We would like to thank the following people for their generous donations towards his care.
Alondra J., Kaithlen P., Laszlo N., Carolyn C., Jade L., Jill Z., Rachel H., Sabrina & Joseph R., Can G., Teri S., Kacey Vegas Friends of Guinea Pig Rescue ❤️❤️
Thank you all!

We will keep everyone updated!

We don’t know why someone would dump these two baby girls on a box in a driveway but they sure as heck did 😢 Luckily they were found by our foster Michael and his family and now they’re of course SCGPR piggies. So meet Sparkle and Shine ✨We think they’re about 3 months old and are available for adoption. They’re sweet but shy which is totally understandable considering what they’ve been through. We just don’t understand people that do this, we never will. We believe that part of the issue is the fact that pet stores sell Guinea pigs which lead to impulse purchases by people who have done virtually zero research on how to care for them. They view them as easy starter pets and they’re disposable…literally disposable to these people as we are clearly seeing. 🤬 I know we’re preaching to the choir here But and 🛑 selling animals!!

🚨Rescue 911🚨 This sweet piggy is Marker. We took him in this week as an owner surrender after a family member of his owner reached out with concerns over his health. Initially it was just thought that he had an eye injury, but upon arrival at cofounder Kits house She realized that he was much worse off than we originally thought. After a visit to our Orange County vet this afternoon, it has been determined that he needs to go into surgery immediately. Not only will his eye likely need to be removed, but his poor mouth is a mess with teeth trapping his tongue. It’s suspected that there may be an abscess or something behind the eye causing it to be pushed out. Marker has a strong spirit and has endured a lot. His diet has essentially been alfalfa based pellets, no hay and sugary vegetables. 😢
We don’t think the former owners knew any better and we’re not here to bash them, we’d like to focus on his journey forward. We’d like to give him a chance at a better life and so we have scheduled his surgery for tomorrow. If you’d like to donate to his care the link is here https://www.socalguineapigrescue.org/donate
For IG followers I will also post a direct link in our stories.

We are trying to help find a home for this young boar named Tigger whose owner just passed away ❤️‍🩹 he’s about 2.5 years old and has never had any pig buddies. His owner’s daughter is in town getting affairs in order and she desperately needs a good home for this little guy. If you can help in any way please let us know, we could help with supplies if any interested adopters are out there, if you’re interested in fostering we always need more foster volunteers. We are just filled to the brim with summer boarders and fosters so it would be difficult for us to squeeze him in. Thank you ❤️🐽❤️

We do a lot of matchmaking behind the scenes so please get in touch if you’re thinking about adding a new family member. If we don’t have the age, breed, gender you’re looking for chances are we’ve recently received an email from someone who does!

On Friday our former foster piggies Tim & his mate Marty were begging for snacks as usual (pic 1) by Saturday Marty began showing signs of GI Stasis, he went in for x-rays & was separated for feedings & meds, sweet Tim Tams wheeked for his friend across the room 😭 (pic 2) On Sunday Marty passed away 💔 he was a little over 1 yr old. On Monday Louie arrived, had surgery and on Wednesday (pic 3), Tim and Louie got to say hello (pics 4&5) 🐽

Sending all our love to the Funk family ❤️ We are so sad that Marty is gone, he was one of Piper’s babies, born in the rescue, we know he had the best of everything right up until the end ❤️ Louie is recovering from his surgery and doing well.
