This is not a political post, this is a health and safety post.
As regulations around food safety are rolled back, as inspections and enforcement are curtailed, as the personnel who have worked to ensure the safety of our food, supplement, and drug supply are being laid off consumers and pet caregivers need to be aware that food fraud and adulteration will likely increase over the coming years.
I know this HuffPost report is about people food, but it is a jarring reminder that it will be important for us to hold pet food and pet product companies accountable for maintaining quality control processes that help keep pets and people safe. I am very worried about the corners that may be cut and the dogs and cats (and their humans) that could be harmed from pathogenic bacteria in their food and treat supply.
Feed Safe,
Dr. Weeth
