Go right ahead, just blame the dog trainer!! LOL

Hello everyone!! So this weekend's vendor evemt did not go as we had planned. I slept through all the alarms, ended up being late (which I hate!) and didnt even get to set my whole area up, due to some future dog trainers (8-10 year old students) constant curiosity about dog training, and Ms. Tia!
Right now Im actually working on a blog piece entitled "Preparing for ..." this will be a three-part blog entry about getting ready for AKC Obedience Trials, AKC Rally Trials, Group Classes & Private Lessons and how to structure and fit in your 5-10 min "homework" sessions throughout the week. This picture looks different for everyone, but I've had a lot of questions concerning how I prepare so I turned it into something other people can use as reference and you can put your own little tweeks on it as well. So be looking out for that. So our now mid-October Newsletter will be out tomorrow. You can sign-up to receive it on our website https://evolutiondogtrainer.com it is definitely coming late this month with my deepest apologies.

We have collectively 15 years experience with pet and competition Obedience. Owner Ellasha Ferriell & Dog Trainer Mallory Hughes are certified by American Kennel Club (AKC) as Canine Good Citizen Program evaluations at all levels (CGC, CGCA, CGCU, S.T.A.R. Puppy and Trick Dog Titles as well. Ellasha...

Truth.
If you can't abide by the unspoken approachable strange dog rules than this video is a good learning tool. I do a lot of Vendor Shows during the year. I use both Tia and Capone as my demo-dogs. They are both great with children, other dogs, and adults.
I had a very teachable moment happen this past weekend at a vendor show with Tia. I was running late and so people were helping me get my stuff loaded in which was awesome. I set up Tia's Crate in the gym and put her in it to have her squared away, while I helped to get rest of the stuff in. When I came back there was a lady standing in front of Tia's crate. She asked if I was the "dog trainer", and proceeding to tell me that Tia had growled, barked and lunged at kids that approached her crate. The people in the booth next to me chimed in and said "Well the kids were actually poking on the sides and top of the crate too", so with the new information, I told her that was a teachable moment. You should not approach an unfamiliar dog when its in its crate. She is not aggressive. When dogs are in their crates its their place of peace, when strange people come up poking with them especially if they are in unfamiliar places they get defensive. There is no place for them to go. So its fight or flight and my Tia will fight. No soon I get my stuff set up, Tia is always out with me and never growls or barks at anyone. But like I said, I do have to teach a lot of proper etiquette when it comes to people rushing up to dogs assuming that they are all friendly.

However I spend most of my time correcting people on how to approach a strange dog. It really bothers me how parents can let their 4-6 year old children just run up to a strange dog. I normally jump in front of kids (and adults) that do this and say "No, No, No."...I then take them through the steps of petting a Strange dog:

1. You will more than likely never be able to pet a "true" service dog because they are working if they are in public.

2. You will need to first ask the owner of the dog if you can pet the dog. You have no clue if this dog is friendly, or doesnt like children, or is easily spooked, or in training at the moment, or the owner simply doesnt want the dog to be petted at that time. You must RESPECT the owners wishes even if the dog is showing signs of being friendly or wanting to be petted.

3. Then I hand out my approaching a strange dog Pamphlet. Kind of like a mini-class with instructions.

So true and its super hard to do. So hard.

Truth...Knowledge nugget. We always get asked do we train pit bulls. They are a very misjudged breed. As a dog trainer since 2010, I have never been bit by a Pitbull. I have however been bit by a yorkie, toy poodle, and a chihuahua. So...yeah. We do not discriminate against any breed. Yes Genetics are a thing and they can contribute. I hate to lump a whole breed of dog based on others incidents. There are two analogies that I aways use to explain why I "take-on" pitbulls: 1. It's like saying all police are racist and wake up every morning wanting to kill black men. I was a police officer for 8 years. Do not lump me in a sum of police, or my white colleagues because we had a few bad officers. They are bad people in every profession, doctors, nurses, lawyers, etc. 2. But also the "its all in how you raise them", that is sort of true to an extent. Genetics do play a factor but not as big a factor as one would think. But this goes for all breeds. When I was younger I had a Chow, anyone who knows Chows, they tend to be extremely aggressive. Not mine. Cookie, was the sweetest chow, she loved everyone eve my aunt who didnt like dogs in general she loved Cookie. This is why at Evolution Dog Training, LLC we focus on training the dog in front of us, not the breed.
Oh I almost forgot. My last reason for not discriminating. I come from a race that was discriminated against for the last 400-500 years, to do that to another group of being wither they are dogs or humans makes my stomach turn. So you won't find me or my company discriminate against anyone unless they are harming a person or an animal. If the problem is too big for us to handle, better believe we dont end your journey we will find you the help you need, wither its an animal behaviorist or doctor.

Took Tia to the outlet mall yesterday, she loved walking around, but I dont think she cared for the mom trying clothes part, LOL. These are the looks she gave while I was trying on clothes at the Lane Bryant, LOL. But I think she enjoyed saying hi to the people. She even got a toddler to stop crying, it was so sweet.

We are hoping to be able to offer some Canine Fitness activity classes so that our students can learn how to stretch out your dog before a walk, a class, or even a long drive with a rest stop. We are going through the certification course by the American Kennel Club. It is so crucial before training and trialing that you warm up your dog (and yourself), so when you go out there your dog is less likely to have an injury. Just think, would Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence jump on the field without a pre-game warm-up?? Or Venus and Serena on the tennis court, or Ms. Simone Biles (did she change her name yet? Oh well she should just be call the GOAT in Gymnastics and just being a good human being but anyway) . We may be offering that class in January 2024, maybe by then we will finally have a place leased.

We are still working on the September Newsletter, it should be out in a couple days. Trying to get back to normal after a hospital stay is always rough but this one has to be the hardest for me. I just seem to be coming back a little slower. Im still on IV Antibiotics until the 22nd for the Bilateral Pneumonia (Friday). So if my blood culture comes back negative. I can get this PICC line removed and my good ole Port put back in. So once I get the date for my port to be put back in I will know more about our class schedule from October-December.
We do have some small events we will vendor at the end of September, and on the weekends in October, November, and December. We will be posting All three months at the same time.
GLTC will be having a Rally/Obedience Trial the weekend before Halloween, the 28th & 29th Competitive Edge Agility & Dog Sports, LLC . Normally they have some fun costume stuff for the doggies. However, IF YOUR DOG IS NOT PARTICIPATING IN THE TRIAL PLEASE LEAVE THEM AT HOME. We dont say this to be mean. We say this for safety and capacity. Our shows fill up to max most of the time, and that is why last trial we had a waitlist because we only have room for two rings and two judges, and the judges can only judge so many dogs an hour. Space just really that limited. Here is some other reasons:
We dont know your dog. If this is your first time at a dog show and your dogs first time at a dog show odds are you are going to be spending your time correcting your dog from barking, biting/nipping, possibly trying to fight the other dogs or handlers. So in the end you didnt even see the sport you would like to try with your dog. Worst case scenario you may be asked to leave by the Trial Chairperson. So we welcome humans to come and watch the fun.
I have also

As your dog retrieves the first...second...third...maybe fifth or sixth ball, his muscles start to tire and soon they reach overload, where they no longer can fully control and support your dog's movements. Now, when your dog does those amazing athletic maneuvers to snag the ball, soft tissues like the cranial cruciate ligament, iliopsoas muscle and tendon, and the muscles and ligaments that support the vertebrae are overstretching. Minor tears are occurring. Now the ball is thrown 10, 12 times or more and ultimately your dog lies down, exhausted.

That period between when your dog's muscles are in overload, and when your dog lies down exhausted, is the injury zone (Figure 1). But remember, with all that adrenaline, your dog doesn't feel the injuries happening, so you have no idea that the tissues are being used beyond their capacity.

When this game is repeated day after day, month after month, the small tissue tears become large ones, and suddenly it becomes evident that your dog is in pain and has an injury. Of course, it hasn't been sudden at all-what seemed sudden is just the final result of repeated stress and strain until the tissues gave way.

Good Morning Evolution Fam! Just wanted to give an

***UPDATE***

Well, I (Ellasha) was discharged late Monday night from the hospital after being there for 8 days. I have a PICC line that I already hate, too many limitations. I am on an IV Antibiotic for 2 weeks, after that blood cultures come back negative they will put order in to have a new port placed. Even though I am out of the hospital we will not resume classes until I get my port placement back. This PICC line can easily get dislodged so I dont want to take that chance. I will regroup and make changes to the calendar and post it sometime this week.

09/01/2023

I cant find the events page. But I, Ellasha, I am going to scale down for a couple weeks physically. I was in the ER last night and my body is telling me to take it easy. Its been a battle for the past couple of weeks and now its time to do it or end up in the hospital. I hate doing this but it must be done. Also i spilled fruit juice on my laptop with most of my files that had not been copied to my external drive. I may not get my laptop back for 2 weeks. Classes will be postponed at least this week and next week. You will be able to get ahold of me with any questions 502.338.2453 we will not be starting any new classes until September 11th. The classes that are currently in session will recieve a full amount of a gift card for the nextcsessiin of Beginner Obedience Class. I apologize for any inconvienience this may have caused.
