Room for rent at Churchill Downs April 1 -
Northrop Equine is consolidating work space at our office by Churchill Downs - We have 2 rooms for rent (one person per room) on Whitney Avenue - $1300 a month including utilities. Washer/ Dryer on location / Shared Bathroom / Kitchen / Living room - home is furnished except bedroom - Will need to provide own bed/mattress. Pets will be considered with additional monthly fee. Absolutely NO smoking in or on property.

FUN FACT for the day many of you associate Dr. Northrop with Thoroughbred Horse Racing - and of course our local equestrian community hear in Kentucky. What you may not know is Dr. Northrop spent a great deal of time and got much of his education with a renowned and legendary veterinarian named Dr. John Steele - this Veterinarian worked for clients like Michael Matz and Debbie Stevens back in their Show Jumping hay day - he also saw horses like Ian Millers Big Ben. Stay tuned to hear some more fun celebrities that Dr. Northrop has taken care of their horses for but until then we will give a shout out to the USA Show Jumping Team going to Paris 2024! !!

An ounce of prevention is worth a point of cure!

Rabies is fatal - there is no cure - there is a vaccine to guard your horses
from it!

Don’t forget your spring vaccinations and if you’ve never vaccinated for rabies, it’s something you should definitely consider - given once a year it’s a very easy and benign vaccine to give to your horses.

What an amazing horse and Michael Dickinson and his brilliant partner Joan Wakefield were and are still some of the greatest horseman in the business - Dr. Northrop had the pleasure of working for Michael and being one part of his team and f veterinarians to his his stable in Maryland. Da Hoss was a special animal and those days of working with some of the most amazing horses and horseman are treasured for sure!

Remembering 2-time Breeders' Cup Mile winner Da Hoss, born on January 18, 1992.
Retired to the Kentucky Horse Park in 2000 and known for the "greatest comeback since Lazarus," Da Hoss was adored by visitors from around the world during his time at the Park. 🏆

INFECTIOUS DISEASE ALERT!

Horse owners and equine veterinarians should be warned about a *suspected* botulism outbreak in Louisiana. Since Dec. 3, 15 horses have become acutely ill at a Quarter Horse breeding farm in Vermilion Parish County, Louisiana; 12 of them died or were euthanized due to rapid decline. A preliminary investigation into the incident suggests that alfalfa cubes contaminated with dead animal carcasses and produced in Colorado are the suspected culprit.

If your horse is exhibiting any neurologic symptoms without any signs of precipitating conditions, contact your veterinarian immediately!

4 or less body score .. you might be in for some trouble. Make sure your horse has an adequate if not abundant amount of quality hay and you might want to consider some extra calories in the form of added oil
to their regular feed.
