Remember the feral Josie? She was the last to have kittens in the colony. Piper was one of four of Josie and her pussycats. Look at him now!

Another heartwarming update: We adopted Piper from y’all! We call him Dapper Dan because he’s always wearing a tux. He’s is the silliest cat, always keeping us entertained and loves morning cuddles. 🥰

They’re all mad at me too! Except Tucker- surprisingly he was the only chill one about it.

Goose still only lurks in the shadows so it was a heck of a time getting him. We corralled him to a piece of furniture we know he likes to hide under and it was like he was in a cattle chute. I wasn’t able to get it between his shoulder blades, but he got it somewhere on his spine- I think 🤔 Not ideal but he got the medicine and I didn’t get bit, scratched, or peed on. 😸

Tucker is Ready for his Forever Home!

This boy has been through it! Tucker showed up at the end of January 2022. The poor fella looked rough and seemed to have some trouble eating.
He had severe stomatitis and had to have all his teeth extracted. Although he was “friendly feral”, I didn’t want to return him to a life as a community cat without any teeth. Tucker had a rough recovery and he very much held a grudge against me. The tiny bit he allowed me to pet him was gone. He would not let me near him and even ran and hid when I’d go in his room.

Having Timmy as a roommate for 5 months was the start of Tucker trusting me again. He even was protective and swatted me a few times while tending to Timmy.

Fast forward to a few months ago (and a lot of time, effort, & patience) when Tucker finally forgave me and allowed pets. He even joined Chester on my lap one day!

I’ll continue to work with him to get him more comfortable and at ease but I feel he is doing well enough to be adopted. I really feel the cats we’ve rescued will only reach complete comfort in their forever homes.

Please share this with anyone that you may think could give Tucker the loving home he needs.

We have EXCITING news to share!!
Rip has been adopted and officially has his furever home!!! Even though it’s been two years, it’s bitter sweet when a rescue leaves. But I know he has the BEST possible new family that he could have ever wished for! He will have more love than he’ll know what to do with 😸
His Mom passed along this letter from him:

“Dear Holly,

Today was a big day for me! Mom and Dad played with me with lots of different toys! I think my favorites so far are the laser pointer and the circle thingy with the jingle balls in it.

I know I have a comfy bed and I sleep in it lots! But I’ve also decided I really like the sink. Mom told me I was silly for that but I just told her she’s missing out 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve gotten to sniff all my siblings except for Porkchop through a small crack in the door and I like them all so far, and they all like me too.

I did get to officially meet my oldest brother, Sebastian, and I love him so much!! I followed him around and rubbed my face all over him and then we laid on the floor together while Mom and Dad sat with us. I think him and I will be best pals.

Thank you for taking care of me for the past 2 years, and for introducing me to my Mom and Dad. You’re the best!

Love, Rip🖤”

Everyone please send best wishes to Rip & his new family and a HAPPY GOTCHA DAY!😻

The colony has their tent since it’s going to be near freezing this Thanksgiving eve. Garfield approves and Steve is already hunckered down. A heat lamp outside the tent and a pet safe heating pad on the front porch for the scardey-cats that sometimes sleep here. ⛺️ 🦃
Happy Thanksgiving!

It breaks my heart to share this. Their words are a perfect epitaph for Timmy. I’ll always hold the memories dear of precious tiny Timmy. 💔

Even though we know it's coming we will never be ready...our beloved Timmy crossed the Rainbow Bridge today. This little lad had the biggest personality , we will miss him so much. Sadness and tears , but joy and smiles knowing that we shared our hearts with a special kitty called Timmy....❤

In Memory of Timmy 4/6/2022 – 11/8/2023

Timmy!

He was small in stature but made up for it by having the biggest personality you could imagine. He was a character! It was so easy to let our hearts be stolen by this brave little boy. His big sparkling eyes were so intoxicating , his face so expressive, and with his sweet demeanor, your heart would just melt being around him.

A good friend in Lovelady, Texas, found Timmy while doing TNR work. He did not look well at all, almost skin and bones. She was able to trap him and get him to a vet quickly. He was FIV positive, but even after lots of tender loving care his health was not improving. He could not put on weight and suffered from severe digestive issues. After trying so hard for so long, his rescuer needed help and reached out to Shadow Cats. We decided together that by coming to Shadow Cats we would be able to get him additional testing and treatment and try to get him feeling better.

Timmy came to us in February of 2023. The moment he arrived there was not a dry eye; he was so tiny, skin and bones, but he was the friendliest, goofy boy with a will to live and enjoy his life.

Monitored closely by our veterinarians and caring staff, his initial diagnosis was not good. He was suffering from severe IBS and malabsorption. Although he had an appetite that would make us smile each day, his body was finding it hard to process food for weight gain and energy. He had a mountain to climb to get well, but our boy was brave and a fighter. Most kitties in Harmony are on special diets with their food in feeders activated by their microchips. Being so small Timmy found, in a very short time, that as a cat approached his feeder he could sneak in there with them and steal even more food – such a smart boy! 😊 He lived his best life with us for a few months, and although plagued by ill health he participated in everything, photoshoots and events, always wanting to be part of anything going on. He did not look his best at times but to us, he was model material with those long legs and big sparkly eyes. He was stunning!

The mountain to climb for Timmy was too high. We and our veterinarians have tried everything in our power, but the IBS has likely turned into lymphoma, medications are not working, and his weight was declining further. His days with us have come to a close; he could no longer fight. His eyes had lost the sparkle that we loved so dearly. It is way too soon, Timmy not even 2 years old; how we wish it wasn’t so…

Our Sanctuary Manager Sarah said this today,

‘Timmy is a cat that has touched the lives of those he’s met, and even some he hasn’t that have watched him through a phone or computer screen. He’s brought a lot of laughter here at the sanctuary as our little cage-climbing gecko, and many smiles from his sweet disposition and quirky little personality. Letting him go has been an incredibly difficult decision to make, but we know it’s the kindest path we can set him on now”

In his time with us, he has enjoyed lots of love from staff and volunteers and has cuddled in beds with all his kitty buddies. He has laid in the sun out on the catio, jumped on the highest shelves to watch the rabbits and squirrels outside, he has been one of the gang! And oh! He has worn the most stylish sweaters. He was one of a kind!

As Timmy ever so gently fell asleep he only knew the love we all had for him. He was so very special, so popular, our brave and courageous boy. Gentle whispers in his ears told him how loved he was. Forever in our hearts, thank you for the wonderful memories you have left us, Timmy. We will miss you, our goofy boy. Fly high, sweetheart.❤

Our special thanks to Holly. Without your care and love in rescuing Timmy we would not have been able to be part of this precious boy’s life.

Thank you always to our caring staff and veterinarians, our volunteers who showered him with love, and everyone who loved Timmy near and far, there were so many.

In case you’re shopping, Amazon Prime Big Deal Day today or tomorrow, the kitties have some things on their Wish list that are a part of the BIG SALE! 😸
Wet food is needed the most- they have coupon codes listed on some foods. The heated house/beds would be a welcome improvement & anything for the indoor fosters to have entertainment so they stop “playing” with things they shouldn’t😆 …
but *anything* is appreciated!

The colony had mixed company last night. What I didn’t catch on video was the opossum, biting the raccoon several times, and the raccoon being completely unfazed by it😳🦝

I just came across this on a Buzzfeed list of nifty Amazon finds. Upon reading some reviews I saw that one person uses this for their TNR efforts. That seems a lot easier AND cheaper than other triggers I’ve seen. Thoughts? What do you use for trap triggers?

Life has gotten in the way of social media upkeep for the kitties so it’s about a month past due… but I have to acknowledge and THANK Shadow Cats and The One Life Fund for providing all this food for the colony and fosters. Actually all of this AND 50lbs of Cat Chow that came after I took this picture.
The colony gets dry food during the day and wet food for dinner. Our senior boys, Chester and Toothless Tucker get soft (plus BB Blissful Belly that keeps Tucker’s tummy in check).
Between SC and a couple of other private donors of food/supplies, they have all unknowingly been a big relief to me by not stressing about feeding all these kitty boys on top of what has been a very personal challenging time. My gratitude is never ending. Thank you. 🙏🏻
Pictured here is my rescued dumped pup, Luna, and foster kitty Rip, checking everything out 😻

There is a dire situation in Trinity in which there are 3, possibly 4-5, cats needing new homes. Their owner was hospitalized and will not be returning home. 🥺They have no family or anyone that could take these cats. Law enforcement has gone by to leave food but the cats have been alone there for almost two weeks. They initially went to check on two dogs that were supposed to be there, but they have vanished.

There is an offer to provide vetting and spay/neuter-If someone can give these poor kitties a home. Please share and if you can help message me and I will put you in touch with someone who can facilitate everything.
