Education is so important when it comes to getting a parrot. It is just as important to help the feather baby discover the new family as providing guidance on bird care to them. Familiar things such as training perches, harness, clicker and target stick all help the baby feel at home. And positive reinforcement based training offers a common language which can be used by the new family and help the bird settle in.

People often get frustrated with their flocks 100%. I honestly don’t know of a single person whose animals didn’t upset them at one point or another. You can’t always control that they make us upset, but you can control your emotions, which means staying calm and not over reacting because tension is building. If you can’t, just walk outside the house till you’re clear headed again. I’ve done it, I’m not afraid to say it. I’ve put birds back and sat outside for a hour or two. I did it so my birds weren’t affected. I worked on calming myself down and came back with a better attitude.

But it’s always important to digest the behavior that made you frustrated and formulate a plan or contact a trainer to be able to train or change so it doesn’t happen to you again. It will become a vicious cycle that will continue to create frustrated associations towards each other and then you have a much more serious problem.

When sharing your life with companion parrot, you slowly slip into insanity where you just spark up gibberish conversations with them 😉 I don’t make the rules, but our birds are the best ones to gossip with, they read environments the best and will match any energy. So, if you’re pi**ed, or whenever you are dad, they often talk in their little mimicking voice.

How does this correlate to behavior? It does! Because the energy YOU bring to the table, they will MATCH or REACT. Before you open that cage, You wtake a deep breath and set the tone. If They come in unconfident, a lot of birds will pick it up and usually increased aggression happens. If you tense, they will be too and likely to be more alert or possibly even aggressive.

When You interact with any animal(s), You should always want to be as calm as possible. You want things to remain fun and positive for them and for you both. You don’t want to bring your frustrations into their areas. That stays outside the house.

Indian Hill Mynah Birds are known for their amazing ability to mimic and talk. They have a medium sized body and make a great addition to a home with or without other parrots. They are social and can be trained to perch on your hand. They can be playful and very outgoing if you socialize with them frequently. They require a well-rounded diet consisting of pellets, fruit and meal worms. They cannot climb like a parrot so they must hop from perch to perch. Because of this they require fairly large enclosures to ensure they can move around the cage with ease. Ideally, the minimum cage size for this bird would be 36’’ long, 24’’ wide and 66’’ high with ¾’’ wire spacing.
