I’ve been a bit MIA! Staying busy doing what I love 💞
We had a new hire recently.. he’s almost too relaxed in the saddle and lets his guard down on gently broke babies but we will keep him around as a sacrifice. Meet Stanley! He may be a $35 Amazon bear but he doubles as a colt starter, kitten cuddler, and conversation starter! 😂

It’s hard being a baby and having to learn new things!

I always choose a D ring with a roller for the first bit babies wear. Why? A D ring is more stable on the outside of their mouths and the rollers give them something to do other than just chomp at the bit. I’ve learned that the horses playing with the roller encourages more tongue movement and less sucking the bit up and biting on it.

Once I start long lining and riding them, I often reach for an O ring or full cheek (depends on horse.. I can go into this further!) three piece rubber bit with a lozenge as the center piece. This is the most gentle mouthpiece you can find and it’s fabulous to start babies off on the right track for a soft mouth.

First trip around the pen being cinched up was a success for the baby horse! She’s so smart- always licking and chewing ...
