Daily fact time!

The world's oldest horse stables were established by the Egyptian pharaoh, Ramses II (1304-1237 BC) to breed horses for war, hunting and recreation. They were discovered in early 1999 by a joint German-Egyptian archeologicial team headed by Edgar Pusch (Germany) in the ancient city of Piramesse, in the Nile Delta, Egypt. The stables are also believed to be the largest, covering approximately 17,000 mÂČ (182,986 ftÂČ) and housing 460 horses at one time. The stables were built on a slant so the horse urine could drain away and be used for fertilizer. A courtyard and horse-bathing pool were also discovered. Due to the fact that horses were essential to the expansion of the Egyptian empire, the need to have stables placed in strategic locations increased.

Daily Fact

While many breeds’ uses have changed over the years, and with some breeds being developed without a clear use in mind, the Thoroughbred has always been all about racing. Horse racing has been around since the 1100s, with the foundation for the Thoroughbred breed beginning around the 1700s in England. They were bred strictly to race “over the flat” and it shows. Today, they are still the world’s premier racer, even though many are used for other sports such as jumping and dressage.

Happy Mothers Day!

Fact of the day

Standardbreds tend to be much more tolerant of mistakes than other breeds. They’re used to standing in cross ties, sometimes for several hours at a time, without making a complaint. Most owners do not need to worry about stall behavioral issues with this breed either. It makes the Standardbred an excellent trail horse because it is so even-tempered.

The coat of the Fjord Horse is only dun in color. The breed association for Fjord Horses does recognize five different shades of the dun color, but there are no alternative shades or colors allowed. As a breed, this makes it one of the most consistent-looking horses that there are in the world today.
The rarest shade of dun for the Fjord Horse is the yellow dun, which creates a stunning look with the yellow coat and a white mane and tail. Red, gray and white are also available shading options. 90% of the horses, however, will be the standard brown dun color.
