Let's play Guess the Breed
I adopted Riggs while in vet school. He was evacuated from a shelter in Florida in 2017 due to Hurricane Irma and ended up in my junior surgery group in Georgia to be neutered when he was approximately 6 months old. All the dogs arrived in a van full of crates, and I arrived early to try and be the first to pick out a dog for my group to neuter. Despite finding him in a pile of vomit and covered in fleas, he was young and appeared healthy- a good choice for my surgery group. I immediately gave him a bath and got him settled into a kennel near our surgery suite.
He picked up basic commands quickly and over the weekend spent some time tailgating with all the Georgia fans. I knew that he definitely wasn't going back to the shelter but wasn't sure I was ready to take on a 3rd dog as I had two senior Boxers at the time. I took him home after the surgery, and he never left. I quickly discovered that he was afraid of car rides likely because he would get car sick after about 10 minutes. After he healed from the neuter- It took about two days of training until he would willingly jump in the car and multiple rides of increasing length until he no longer vomited. For several months, he was stuck at 45 minutes, so I would have to stop and get him out for 10 minutes to reset the clock. It's not like I was frequently driving for long distances while in vet school, but when I did, I realized I had more work to do with him. 🙄
He turned 6 years old in March, and I've often wondered what type of dog he is. I generally call him a Pointer mix although I also have another breed in mind. He's 50lbs, picks up tricks and new tasks quickly, protective of my home and vehicle, generally tolerant of other dogs and animals (but will get after a cow when asked), likes adults and kids, pink tongue, scissor bite, deep bark, medium brown eyes, expert lizard hunter/finder (flushes them out but has never caught one), and scared of all tools used for cleaning since day 1😆.

I finally ordered the Embark breed id + health test today.
I settled on Embark by using the very scientific eeny, meeny, miny, moe selection process. Based on my research, I can't confidently say that any test is superior. If you would like to do the same, use the link below for $50 off. I decided 6 years of curiosity is worth $149 plus I will get the added bonus of knowing if he has any genetic predispositions for the specific diseases that the test includes.
