As much as we'd like to say that the winter season is our "downtime", behind-the-scenes work never stops here at The Wish!

With that being said, we are SO EXCITED to announce the start of one of our most amazing enhancements for The Wish this summer. Each year, we host over two dozen tours for local schools/businesses/organizations, with nearly 80% of them including individuals that are differently abled. Although the terrain of the farm is fairly flat and easy to navigate, we currently do not offer ADA compliant restrooms (given our home has stairs at each entrance).

So... when I saw this adorable little "barn" on FB Marketplace, the lightbulb sparked on in full force and the brainstorming began! Fast forward a few short months, and what was once a "someday" is now a "game on"! In addition to having the building, a talented contractor donating their time and talent, a generous donation from Jim's Johns for the actual bathroom holding tank ...

Hooray For Hollywood chose THE WISH as a recipient this year and has gifted us the funds to complete the bathroom project in full! When we applied, we were hopeful that if chosen, this grant could help fund the project. We had NO idea they would opt to donate enough to complete the bathroom in entirety!

Each enhancement here at The Wish is exciting; that goes without question. But... this one is something very, very special. We are so thankful to be a resource for so many community organizations, and now, thanks to the support of Hooray for Hollywood, we are able to offer even more conveniences and peace of mind to our visitors each year! What this group does for our Kewaunee County community is nothing short of amazing. Truly... amazing. Being a "transplant" to the area, we are in awe of the support and generosity of this community. We couldn't be more thankful to call this our home.

And, with that being said (through some definite teary eyes), we CANNOT wait to share the progress of this project with y'all! Now, more than ever ... EVERYONE is welcome at The Wish! 🥹

Community partnerships are something we not only take pride in, but, also... get the most joy out of! And, today... our friends at Algoma Venture Academy stopped by for what could be, one of our most exciting partnerships to date!

As you all know, Cliffity has been struggling lately with the injury he suffered to his front leg. So, after attending the AVA fall project showcase, we thought MAYBE the students would be interested in working on a 3D printed brace to help with his mobility and comfort. We were thrilled when not only were they interested, but they started a Wilson's Wish Project Group solely focused on helping the residents here at The Wish! Today was their first visit to learn about Clifford's condition and the measures we are currently taking to set him up for success. Our friend Morgan from Peak PEMF Performance was here for our monthly maintenance appointment, so they started with an educational overview of the benefits of PEMF treatment. Next up, the students learned about Clifford's current condition, the support brace we are using (repurposed from Mercy's braces) and what our vision is for Clifford's future health and mobility. The students were both inquisitive and engaged as we discussed the project and what it could mean for Clifford's quality of life. Oh... and they were also kind enough to bring apple treats for everyone, so you KNOW they all made some new friends during their visit.

We are beyond excited about this partnership and "The Clifford Project" ... this wonderful group of concerned students is going to make a world of difference for our sweet Do-Da! This is going to be a fun one ... be sure to follow along for more to come, friends!

Time is ticking away quickly, and in less than TWO WEEKS, we'll finally get to see y'all at our SOUP ... Der, It Is! - RESCHEDULED! fundraiser at Thumb Knuckle Brewing Company!!!

Now... I know y'all are as excited as we are! But... we are now EVEN MORE EXCITED to extend our time together by inviting you to join us for UTL's Comedy Night at The Painted Pelican in Dyckesville! Doors at 6pm, Comedy at 7pm. Tix start $20!

Farmer Dave and I LOVE a good comedy show, so we were thrilled when Under The Lights Entertainment reached out and offered us the opportunity to be their nonprofit community partner for the evening by hosting a 50/50 raffle at their show at The Painted Pelican Saturday evening!

HOW MUCH FUN IS THIS YOU GUYS?!?! It'll be a great afternoon in Kewaunee County... come on out and support the project at our soup cook-off and then head over for a fun date night with dinner and a show in Dykesville!

Phew... Going to be a jampacked day, but we're ready for it! We can't wait to see y'all in just two short weeks!

While we're all out here just trying NOT to freeze, the Wisco Winter germ patrol are in their heyday! And... yet again, they have set up shop in my apparently ill-prepared self and just cozied themselves right in for the past few days. And let me tell ya ... they ain't messin' around! Knocked me straight out for two solid days ...

Anywho... despite being down and out the past few days, I did FINALLY get the Official Barn Raiser T-Shirt order form completed and ready to rollllllll!

An unbelievable chance encounter that happened via social media just a week ago tested us beyond measure... but, of course, we knew it was sign that we had to take a chance, yet again.

Another little three-legged calf (well, a 3.1 legger actually), born less than an hour away... innocently searching for a family that would see just how perfect he was.

By the time we connected with the farmer, he had already heard about us (and Lyle) from his vet. He agreed to have the little guy vet checked which didn't confirm anything noticeably alarming. So, knowing we had the Cow Garage in our sites, we agreed to bring this precious Angus/Holstein (Lyle/Junie) bull calf home ... to The Wish... where he belonged.

Our good friend Jennifer Hurley lovingly chauffeured Lloyd (at only 6 days old) to us on Saturday. He stoically stood the entire ride; wide-eyed and curious about his new adventure. After carefully unloading him, we watched as he stood on his wobbly three-legs (with his little quarter front leg dangling); just taking in his new surroundings.

We set him up in the barn; lots of straw bedding, warm milk and a cozy jacket to keep him snuggly and warm. Although he happily slurped up his milk, it was obvious he was still quite uncertain about navigating his new world. Day two found him even more uncertain; still alert and standing but with no interest in venturing about. Understanding how stressful a change in environment can be (especially with a little one with special needs) ... we trusted he just needed time.

But yesterday morning, we knew something was very wrong. With no interest in eating or standing, we moved him to the garage and after consulting with our two vets, into the house. His temperature had dropped, and it was imperative we get him warmed. Dr. Kevin helped get him set up with blankets and a heating pad, and we were instructed to take his temp every fifteen minutes. He had another appointment but would be back to administer warm electrolytes afterward. We were relieved as we watched his temperature rise slowly... back to where it should be. And then... just like that, with Dave and I by his side, he left us.

He left us stunned... and heartbroken.

To Our Precious, Beautiful Baby Lloyd ... Words cannot describe how we miss you. From day one, we saw promise and hope; a life like Lyle lives, despite the odds. But you, our beautiful boy, were not Lyle. You were your own unique self, and unfortunately, your body knew struggles not visible to the naked eye. We hope you understand the impression you made on us is something we cannot put into words. Goodness... we'd do anything to be watching you slurp up your milk and dribble it across our coats as you look wide-eyed at us. Instead, our eyes are filled with tears as we wonder how we failed you.

And that's our reality, friends... it's the reality of rescue. For every good day, there's an equally heartbreaking one. Our only comfort is knowing that Lloyd crossed The Rainbow Bridge knowing nothing but love.

Run free our beautiful, sweet boy ... Ask for Wilson; he'll take good care of you.

I mean, CLEARLY that couldn’t happen for Lyle and Junie,but MAYBE now we no longer have to wonder “what if” … 🤔

You know when you have a vision of something …

And, in your mind, it’s super cool … but you can only HOPE that it comes to fruition half as amazingly as you’ve planned?

TOTALLY been there… BUT, this time I’m proud to say that my vision came out even better than I’d hoped!

Shout out to the team at Global Recognition Inc for knockin’ this one outta da garage! (See what I did there? 🤣) Shirts will be available next weekend at the SOUP ... Der, It Is! fundraiser… get ‘em while you can, friends!

All proceeds go directly into the Cow Garage fund!! And… let’s just say that our need for the new Cow Garage just leveled up in a major way! Wondering what I mean by that? Stay tuned… IYKYK 😉
