***** THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT*****

**PLEASE READ**

Over the years Dalmatian breeders have been tackling a battle with uniary track problems within the breed. We have worked very hard to finally achieve where this trait is slowly diminishing. We are seeing more Dalmatians born LUA ,( low uric acid) and this is fantastic!

Now we are tackling another battle.

Copper Storage disease ( CSD) in dogs is a condition caused by an abnormal accumulation of chelated copper in the animal’s liver. This leads to progressive damage and scarring of the liver. Excessive and prolonged exposure over time leads to cirrhosis and possible death. Copper Storage Disease (CSD) is being diagnosed with increasing frequency.
Studies and research have proven this increase in CSD can be directly related to the changes in copper supplementation that Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) put into effect for dog food manufacturers. The decision to change the type of copper added to food from copper oxide to a chelated copper or copper sulfate has increased the copper exposure in many dog foods to alarmingly toxic levels.

It seems to be affecting not only Dalmatians.
Certain dog breeds are genetically predisposed or are suspected of being predisposed to it. The average age of diagnosis is 7 years old, but dogs as young as 2 have been diagnosed. Both female and male dogs can have this disease.

Common breeds:

• Bedlington terrier
• West Highland white terrier
• Skye terrier
• Doberman pinscher
• Labrador retriever
• Keeshond
• American cocker spaniels
• Dalmatians

Copper is an essential nutrient needed in small amounts by your pet’s body for energy production, antioxidant defense, connective tissue formation, and many other biological processes. Your pet gets trace amounts of copper through their diet and water. Copper is ingested by your dog, absorbed in the small intestine, transported to the blood stream, and eventually settles in the liver. It is stored in the liver until needed by other body tissues. The portion that is not absorbed in the small intestine is removed through f***s (p**p). A small amount of copper is an important nutrient for your dog’s body, but too much is toxic and damages the tissues. Copper storage disease is excessive amounts of copper accumulating in the liver due to the inability to get rid of it, or too much in the diet, or both.

I highly recommend that you do some research on the amount of chelated copper or copper sulfate that is in the dog food you are feeding your dog. Some dog foods will have more than others and could cause major problems. It should not exceed 28 milligrams per serving.
EXAMPLE: Purina dog chow could have 30 milligrams . ( which is too high) If this is the case I will be changing my dog food for all of my dogs and you should too.

Signs:

There is no specific sign of copper storage disease. Because there are no definitive signs, it is usually diagnosed while running bloodwork for other reasons.

• Loss of appetite and weight loss

• Abdominal pain and vomiting

• Reduced activity level

• Jaundice- yellowing of the whites of the eyes

• Diarrhea

• Increased thirst

• Increased urination (peeing)

Diagnosis:

The bloodwork may show values that indicate liver damage, which occurs in copper storage disease. Blood clotting requires certain factors made by the liver. In some diseases that damage the liver these factors are reduced, causing a change in blood clotting (coagulation) tests. The only definite way to diagnose the disease is a biopsy of the liver tissue. Here are the ways copper storage disease can be diagnosed:

• Physical examination by your veterinarian

• Bloodwork including complete blood count and chemistry

• Blood coagulation test to check liver function

• Urinalysis to look for another cause of the pet’s poor health

• Serum bile acids to access liver function

• Liver biopsy to look for copper in the liver tissue sample

Treatment:

There are two goals of copper storage disease treatment: remove the excess copper from your dog’s body, and prevent future excess copper consumption. Therapeutic copper-restricted diets decrease the amount of trace copper consumption. Your dog will need to be on this specialty diet lifelong. Chelating agents are medications that bind the excess copper in your pet’s system and help excrete it in the urine. In some cases, diet alone is sufficient to control signs, while others may need additional therapy with chelating agents.

Your pet’s health will be monitored during treatment by rechecking bloodwork and liver biopsies and your veterinarian can help you decide which therapy is best. Left untreated, your dog’s liver function will be irreversibly damaged. Treating early and continuing with lifelong therapy has a good prognosis. Lifelong monitoring of your dog’s health by your veterinarian is important.

After alot of thought and consideration Sceneo is looking for the perfect retirement home. She is very easy going, low drive and loving. She loves everyone and other dogs, she can be a little timid at first. The only thing she doesn't do well with is Chickens if she has a way to get to them. If she doesn't know you have them than she is fine. She is 3 years old. She is spayed and UTD on 3 year distemper parvo and 3 year rabies. As well as heartworm meds. She is crate trained and house broken. There will be a small rehoming fee. Please PM for more information.

I've never ever Owned a Golden Retriever but I've always wanted one ever since I was little. I loved the movie Air Bud. I feel like the lord dropped her in my lap and knew I needed a cuddling affectionate dog that needed me like I needed her. What makes it even better is Dixie loves her too and has took her right in. She doesn't leave my side. Everyone meet Bailey. She is an AKC Golden Retriever and she has absolutely stolen my heart. ❤️ So in 2 years after all of her OFA testing and health testing we will become a Golden Retriever breeder as well as an F1 Golden Doodle breeder. Exciting for the new beginnings.

Our Story & Additional information Q&A’s

Why do we Breed ACD’S & Dalmatian’s?

***OUR AUSTRALIAN CATTLE DOG’S***

The reason we breed ACD’s is because of love and enjoyment from the breed it grew far beyond what we thought it would. My husband had a Heeler growing up and wanted one so I bought him Scout saying he will be his dog. But little did I know I would fall head over heels in-love with the breed myself. I want to share with people the true love and enjoyment you get out of a Heeler. Their outgoing, smart and strong willed personalities is what won me over. They are very hyper active and need a job to do and lots of room to run. So if you live in an apartment and have a busy schedule this probably isn’t the correct breed choice for you. We started out with Scout (aka Jacob’s dog) he is highly intelligent and so gentle but full of energy. I was so impressed with the breed I had to get another one so we got Skye. Skye is full of s***k and sass. Scout and Skye are colored up like a typical Blue Heeler double mask on the ears and beautiful blue-mottled coloring. With white bentley stars between their ears. Then we’ve got Sceneo I rescued her out of a bad situation she has came ALONG way but is still on the shy side. She is s***ky too once she get’s to know you but love’s to be loved. She is colored like salt and pepper. She is blue-mottled but has only black and white marking’s with black spots and a bentley star between her ear. With one mask. No tan mixed in her coat. She is also know as a Australian stumpy tail cattle dog. Naturally bobtailed or tailless. Then their is Jax our red heeler. He is red-mottled with a bentley star between his ears. With a single mask. Quick tip- Did you know ACD have dalmatian in them as we’ll as dingo? That’s where the red coloring comes from in the breed.

***We have two upcoming litter’s for ACD’S they are due early July***
