Yay! It's always a surprise, an honor, and a thrill to have a flower submission make the head table and be graced with a 2 foot ribbon! Here Dave's triple 20th Ave & Baker Rd. checked all the boxes at the PSDA! A triple is tricky: blooms must be the same size, color, maturity, angle, and be staged to face the observer.

I'd like to tell you about the delight of new dahlia seedlings: last evening I was writing the tag and documenting one beauty to keep and suddenly I hear "Ooo, look at this one over here!"

The seedling rows give a sense of delight and wonder something akin to a Garden of Eden experience for Adam and Eve. The surprises sound like this during the evenings we document them: Look at this! What a strong stem! Good symmetry there! Did you see this bright pink!? That's a tall one! Stripes and speckles, isn't that fun! That's a seven inch bloom! Nice light-blend! What a cute little pom pon! Everyone loves a pure white! That might be a stellar!

For us there's an urgency with these blooms to not miss their beauty and to preserve the marvelous ones with a view to sharing them in the future.

I''m thankful for the beauty our good Lord gives for us to see and to enjoy. We are amazed and excited by what we see. Which gives us all the more reason to worship and adore the Creator who on the third day brought all plants into being, each with seed according to its own kind. And he described his work as good in Gen. 1:12. Indeed, we are a blessed people to behold this goodness.

Hitomi Gilliam had fabulous mechanics that are sustainable and easily reuseable that she made for our viewing pleasure. Her pieces are super light weight too! We tried our hand at making head pieces, bangles, large centerpieces. So inspiring and artsy!

It was a great day for dahlia planting! We used an auger to "dig" holes, no shovel needed. That's a fantastic tip we learned from our local dahlia society this past Tuesday Thanks for sharing, Kamille!

While dividing tubers sometimes the eyes/growths are easy to spot and sometimes I see some that might be or none. Today I am pleasantly surprised --while being snowed inside-- to behold abundant life and hope for spring! This is Castle Drive looking super healthy and vigorous.

Dave spotted a sport of Isabel today. Anyone else have Isabel and notices it throws a sport? We cut this bloom and are going to try to do 2 leaf cuttings. Not sure they will last through the winter. Would be super fun if they do!

First picture is Isabel, quite pink. Next photo is the sport, much more orangey. 🍊

New to me this year is Nadia Ruth from , the local gal who put not 1, 2, but 3 entries on the head table this season at the local dahlia show! Give her a follow! She supplied us with quite a number of tubers over the past few years. Another plus: she's fabulously ruthless about pulling out stock with a suspected virus.

Bloomquist Tory P.

We came home from our MI and IN vacation yesterday, walked through the garden before the luggage went into the house and saw this variety in full bloom.

We had BQ Tory P. several years ago, lost it due to a suspected virus and purchased it this year as a cutting at the Whatcom County Dahlia Society auction. Grown by Lisa VM, --who destroys all plants suspected of virus-- we are happy to have this one back in our collection.
