❤️ Happy Valentines Day everyone! ❤️

⚓️ We wanted to say thank you to everyone who participated in our survey regarding dog related businesses you’d like to see in the area.

It is clear that boarding services and a dog park are the two biggest wants currently.

We do currently offer boarding services on a very small basis in our home. To stay in compliance with state laws we only take two dogs at a time. If you are interested in seeing if our home is the right fit for your dog, send us a message! Because we take care of pups inside our home and they are not separated from our household, they must not have aggression issues or destructive separation anxiety.
We do hope to expand our boarding options in the near future.

⚓️ Hi Folks! We are helping this little girl find a perfect human to match her zest for life.

Kali is a 1 year old Decker Terrier. At 24lbs and a bundle of sweet energy, she looking for an active pet parent that likes to go for daily walks, play games of fetch, go on mountain hikes, and who also wants a loyal best friend.

Kali is house trained, crate trained, knows all of her basic commands, loves to snuggle next to you on the couch, and play with her toys.

Kali would be best in a home without small children. She LOVES other dogs, but has shown some signs of resource guarding and a multi-dog home may not be the best fit.

If you are interested in adopting Kali, please send us a message. We will be looking out for her best interests, and will wait for her soulmate to apply 😉 ❤️

🌊 Happy Tuesday Everyone! 🌊

We have a couple of things to share. It’s kind of a mixed bag and long, so hang tight!

🐕 As of March 1st we will have a small price increase. It’s not an across the board increase. The amount depends on size of dog and type of grooming involved. Send us a message if you’d like to know what your new price will be. Nail trim costs will stay the same.

🐶 🪳FLEAS- If you notice your dog suddenly itchy, don’t assume it’s just dry winter skin. Look for fleas. They tend to like to hang out on the rear end near the top of the tail, and often under the belly area.
There was a massive flea explosion in the fall due to the dry weather. Fleas can take up to 3+ months at times to go from egg to adult flea. If they picked up a single flea last fall, that flea can lay hundreds of eggs and your dog could just now start to show signs of being itchy.

I absolutely HATE having to charge extra for a flea bath even though it it my policy to do so, and I often don’t. It does cost me time and money to do flea removal and make sure that the salon is fully clean and sprayed. Flea baths only protect my salon from infestation, your dog still needs to be treated with an appropriate treatment to kill all of the fleas that will continue to hop on at home as they hatch.
From now on I will have to enforce the flea policy, which is an extra $20 for a small dog and $35 for a large dog.

My six year old niece Kilei, a 1st grader at RMG in Machias, has just started her first year of Girl Scouts! She is so excited to sell cookies and has a goal to sell 100 boxes. Please help her reach her goal (or Amy and I will be eating a whole lot of cookies 🤣)!

Update: Appointment slots have been filled!

A bath appointment for Wednesday (tomorrow) afternoon at 3pm just opened up, and an 8:30am haircut appointment for this Thursday (Feb 1st). Grab an appointment while you can! We are otherwise booked for six weeks.

🎉 Whew! 18 dogs and two bunnies later (or about 354 nails!), our first monthly nail clinic was a huge success!
The next clinic will be on February 24th from 10am-12pm.
We also do nails by appointment during the week. 🎉

We’ve received a few calls today from folks who are concerned with the recent news reports regarding a contagious canine respiratory illness. While experts don’t know the exact bacterium that is causing this illness, there are good recommendations on how you can keep your dogs safe.
The video below is from Maine Veterinary Medical Center in Scarborough, which is one of 26 hospitals in the United States operating as a Certified Level 1 Facility with the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society. They have been working with the New Hampshire Veterinary diagnostic laboratory to help identify this pathogen.

As for grooming, we are asking folks to please reschedule if you believe your dog is sick. This is an all year long policy, not just during canine flu season. We want everyone’s dogs to stay healthy!

OPERATION “Catch a Bunny” IS IN FULL EFFECT!

We woke up to a domestic bunny in our yard this morning. It’s quite tame, but will not allow us to actually touch it. We’ve set up a live trap, but if you know of anyone near 523 Kennebec Rd in Machias that is missing a cute little rabbit, please let them know we are trying to catch it and would love to send it back home!

⚓️ Happy Tuesday Everyone!

🐶 Due to reaching our maximum capacity of haircut clients, we are temporarily not taking NEW grooming clients who require a haircut. We will still be taking new short haired dogs who only need a bath and nail trim, and we will always take new dogs who are just in need of nail trims.

🐩 That said, if your pet has ever had an appointment with us in the past we can still accommodate them! If you are a current client and you get a new pet, we will also accommodate them.

🐕 If you are a NEW client and want to get on our books, we will have a list you can be added to. We will have new spots open up, as people move away occasionally, and sadly pets do pass away. We will contact you as these appointment slots become available.

⚓️ Thank you all for your patience as we try to navigate having such a full schedule. It is a great problem to have as a small business, but it is taking some time to figure out how to best manage appointments so your pets still receive the best care possible.

⚓️ Hi Everyone! This beautiful girl is Sadie. We wanted to share her picture because we are so thrilled with how far she has come in less than a year.

Sadie was rescued from a terrible situation in June of 2022. She was bloody, matted, covered in swarming bugs and skin infection, emaciated, had recently weaned a litter of puppies, and likely would not have survived much longer.

The rescue started her recovery, and by the end of August she was well enough to be adopted to folks who would be willing to continue her care. She was transported all the way to Down East Maine to start her new life.

Sadie’s new parents called us, desperate to find someone who could help them bathe her. They committed to do anything necessary to revive Sadie’s health. She came to Nauti Dog for medicated baths twice a week for months. They changed her diet, gave her supplements, and spoiled her rotten.

Sadie is a very special girl. Through all of her trauma she continued to be a gentle giant. Over the weeks of coming to Nauti Dog she went from reluctant and unsure, to hopping in and out of the tub and onto our tables. She play bows with us, and gives plenty of love.

Several months ago one of her owners took a bad fall on the ice while out walking Sadie. The injury was serious, and Sadie stayed by his side until someone came looking for them and help arrived.

We are so happy to know and love this girl, and so grateful for her rescuers and her parents who brought her into our lives ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

🐶 Hi Friends!

⚓️We were closed for vacation and just arrived back into town tonight.
We had many people try to contact us while we were gone and did not receive any response from us. Although we had an automatic text set up to respond to folks, for some reason it went out to some clients but not others. We don’t know why this happened, but we are terribly sorry! We will be contacting everyone right away.

🐩 The other unfortunate mishap was that our voicemail box filled up while we were gone and some folks were not able to leave messages. Fortunately those were able to hear the message that we were closed, but we are still sorry for the inconvenience.

🐕 We will be open again for regular hours this Saturday, but feel free to text or leave a message and we will get back to everyone!

⚓️⚓️⚓️ Nauti Dog will be closed from next Thursday through the following Tuesday (09/01-09/06), for a long Labor Day weekend. We will not be available to respond to messages during this time, but will respond to everyone on 09/07 when we are back in the salon.

🌊 🌊 🌊 We do still have some space left, but we are currently almost booked for September! We are strongly encouraging folks to book in advance. If Shaggy isn’t quite stinky yet but will be in three weeks, book now! We know that baths seem like they are easy to squeeze in, but when there isn’t time, there just isn’t time. We want to be able to accommodate everyone!

💅🏼 💅🏼 💅🏼 We can still usually schedule nail trims the same week as requested. As always, nail trims are scheduled at the end of our workday between 3:30-4:00.

Hi folks! We’ve updated our cancellation policy, and will email or text it to you when you make your next appointment. We know that life happens, and some leniency is appreciated. We have come up with what we believe is a fair policy to both parties. This cancellation policy applies to both bath appointments and full grooming appointments. For appointments cancelled without 24 hours notice: ⚓️ First cancelled/missed appointment will be forgiven with no cancellation fee. ⚓️ Second cancelled/missed appointment will incur a fee equal to 50% of your pet’s base grooming price. ⚓️ Third cancelled/missed appointment will incur a fee equal to 100% of your pet’s base groom price. 🐶 Video for tax. Some days I really do get to kiss puppies all day 😍 ⚓️ Also, I just had a cancellation for tomorrow at 10:30am if anyone is interested in having your pup fluffy and clean for the weekend! 🐩 I also have time available next Wednesday and Thursday before the holiday weekend!
