Dog Training Education Month!

Let's talk about puppies.

Puppies NEED sleep. So much more than you think!

It's important to teach puppies from a young age to settle on their own, especially when they're starting to act out. If your puppy can't redirect from mouthing you (no toys work), then it's time for a nap!

We find crates are best for this, as your pup can be relatively unsupervised safely. A frozen stuffed Kong will go a long way for a puppy! Give them something high value, and don't let your pup out until they've settled and had a good nap. Then, straight outside for a bathroom break!

That potty training schedule is so important! Bathroom breaks between play, after dinner, after crating. Pick up your water at night to help with the overnight, and mark everything! Whether or not you're using bells, mark by saying "do you need to go out?" Or whatever phrase you choose. Then, wait them out! They'll go eventually, give them lots of time. As soon as they do their business, mark with "yes! Good out/potty/etc"

Crating is never a bad thing! It keeps your puppy safe, gives you a much-needed break, and will set your puppy up for success if they ever need to be boarded or stay overnight at the vet.

Dog Training Education Month!

Your pet can not only meet, but EXCEED your expectations if you set clear boundaries.

People always ask us why their dogs are so good at Pet Rendezvous. There's many layers to that answer, but simply: structure.

We find what works, practice the same schedule each day, are consistent with our communication and expectations, and routinely give dogs breaks and lessons as needed.

Once they get how things work, it's easy to maintain. Lots of reactive dogs do well here because we never put too much pressure on them. We show we respect their boundaries while also letting them know what our expectations are, and that lets them trust us more and more with each stay.

If you can provide your dog with similar structure and expectations, you'd be amazed how quickly they'll understand what you're looking for!

Some things you may not know we carry!

We carry all the things we use, recommend, and see owners utilizing.

Firm Up! Is an excellent supplement for dogs having digestive upset. Simple and safe ingredients.

Freeze-dried goat's milk adds an amazing amount of protein, fat, and flavor to your dog's meals or enrichment toys. It's easier to work with than our frozen goats milk. Just add water! These have added greens or berries.

Pill Pockets make giving your dog meds so easy. We have three flavors available and two different sizes.

Our favorite Vermont vendor recommended Keep it Moovin' joint supplements, and we've never looked back. The same (if not more) beneficial ingredients as the name brand, but average sized pups only need half a chew a day once they've transitioned onto this supplement! Talk about best bang for your buck!

And, finally, our newest addition: Honest Paws mobility line. We've carried the CBD calm like from Honest Paws, and we LOVE it. No behavioral changes, just relaxed dogs! We offer the calming line as an add-on for boarders, we love it THAT much. We've been having clients ask about some pain relief for their pups, so we brought in the mobility drops and chews to try out.

We're excited to carry so many new products!

Dog Training Education Month!

Fold training into your daily life!

Utilize your dog's breakfast and dinner for training. Practice "place" with a stuffed Kong while cooking dinner. Take advantage on the way back from your walk to improve your basics. Come into Pet Rendezvous a little early, and work your dog in the lobby or parking lot.

Training doesn't have to take up your whole life. Look at where your issues come from, and practice little by little each day. If you're not up for an outing, practice your own handling skills in the backyard. If you have to run to Home Depot, bring the dog and work them in the parking lot before you leave.

There's SO many ways to fold training into your life!

It's Dog Training Education Month!

We often get asked for a timeline on training and, to be honest, it's up to the dog!

Things like: potty training, teaching a young dog to heel, or basics like "sit," and "down," are quick and easy to teach. But things like "stay," solid recall, general off-leash reliability, and behavior modification take TIME.

We have so many amazing clients that have been willing to let us take that journey with their dog: working anxious and reactive dogs up to pack time at their pace, working on fears in public, learning to manage excessive anxiety, and so much more.

We thank you for taking the time to put in all the work you do with your dogs! Your consistency at home makes their lives better, and allows us to push them further and further with each session.

Not everything can be a "quick fix," and we are grateful for everyone that's willing to help us build up their dog's skills over time. πŸ₯°

Dog Training Education Month continues!

"I don't have time to train my dog"

Dog training does NOT have to be a huge time commitment day-by-day.

Instead, look at the areas that your dog struggles in, and tackle those naturally.

If your dog pulls on your walk, try working on a sharper heel on the way back, when they're tired. Start practicing your heel earlier and earlier in the walk, and you'll be surprised how quickly your dog recognizes what you're looking for.

Dog not settling at home? Practice "place" after daycare. Freeze their food in an enrichment toy, ask for a "place," and let them eat dinner on place! RIGHT before they're finished, switch it out for a quick treat and break them off their bed. Then, you can start practicing place with your morning coffee and your dog's breakfast, or before and/or after your walks.

Notice a particular time that your dog is barking? Maybe it's when the delivery truck comes. Put a leash on your dog, and practice simple name recall away from the windows right before, or for some time after the delivery driver's come by. When your dog comes to you (don't be afraid to help guide them with the leash) mark with "Yes, good leave it!" Move back and forth towards the window or door that triggers the barking, and practice when you can.

If you have something you're working on (greetings, barking, jumping, etc) don't be afraid to set some rules in place. Even if it's as simple as crating your dog when you have company and don't feel like going through all the training motions, that's totally fine! Give them a high value treat or a frozen dinner, and it'll still be a positive experience!

Here it is, everyone!

Our tour video! 4 months in our new building, and we are loving every minute 😁

Our amazing core team and owner have stayed the same, but the building looks a whole lot better!

Larger rooms, larger yards, turf that can be easily disinfected, and so many spaces to put our dogs that needs breaks or can't join the group!

Our cat condos also received a huge upgrade, and you'll see them featured here, as well.

Thank you for your patience and trust in us! You may see lots of new faces, but the same old team is still here, and we all work towards the same goal: being the best we can be for your pets! 🐾

Stocking more treats!

We've added some grain-free treats to our stock, as well as vegetable based treats for sensitive tummies!

All our dental treats and supplements are 10%, and we're happy to say that Whimzees are a nice chicken-free option for pups with allergies 🦷

Come check out what we've got in store! We're waiting on our Valentine's cookies to come in for our exchange, but in the meantime we've been cooking up some great barkuterie boxes 😁

Happy Dog Training Education Month!

Did your dog graduate off the leash too early?

Do you find you can ask your dog to get on and off of objects easily? Do they recall to you to go home from walks without a struggle? Are you able to redirect troublesome behaviors?

Without extra guidance from a leash, your dog might take advantage of their freedom! We like to give dog's time off leash as a reward for consistent good behavior. That way, everyone can enjoy the walk safely.

If you're finding that your dog needs some extra guidance in, or out, of the home, don't be afraid to clip a leash on to help reinforce what you're looking for.

Leash corrections and guidance can help with demand & excessive barking, jumping, poor recall, and so much more!

We offer e-collar training to help further guide your dog while off leash, to keep everyone safe! We also carry Lupine long lines, which are guaranteed. These can help you and your dog practice and improve recall until you're both ready to be fully off-leash.

Trails are busy in the summer! Utilize the off-season to practice, so you'll be ready when things are busier.

February is Dog Training Education Month!

Dog training is all about repetition, consistency, and exposure!

We can help set you up with the right tools, install all the commands, duration, create and practice distractions, and proof everything, but it's up to you to translate those commands to your home 🏠

If you're feeling the puppy/reactive dog blues, you are NOT alone. Keep at it, and don't be afraid to ask for help. We have lots of resources, and love to do outings with smaller groups, so everyone can work through things in real-time.

We'll be posting tips throughout the month, so keep an eye on our page. We're always cooking up new events and ideas in our training program 😎
