Hey everyone. Sorry we are a little late to the Paw-ty. We have been super busy here at the shelter. All of the animals below were adopted throughout the month of August. We had such a good month on adoptions. We want to thank everyone again for choosing to adopt at JCAS!! Below is the animals name and adoption date.

Update: originally thought time slots were taken spots, The director will be in the tank, but time unknown. So keep an eye out on her being up there!!
Who wants to get wet for a good cause!?! Kindness Jefferson county (Mike Sims) will be having a dunk tank at the Canaan Fall festival this weekend! Saturday 21st. They are going to share the proceeds with the shelter! Thanks to Donald Probst, whom got this all started by volunteering for the shelter. The Director of the shelter and some of her children will be waiting to get dunked! And we are looking for more volunteers. Come Dunk The Director! (Noonish) If you would like to climb in just let us know.

Today the shelter had the great honor of being in attendance at the Madison correctional facility as they dedicated their dog dorm in memory of Henry Holcomb. (Search him if you don't know who he is, very special little guy!) The A.D.O.P.T (a dog on prison turf) program was established in 2009. They have helped rescue so many animals over the years from our shelter, have helped us with so many pregnant dogs, and I cannot thank all the people involved enough! Update: he has flea allergies!! And been dealing with it for sometime now, to the point he has a skin infection. On medication and should see improvement in the coming weeks!

Thank you so much Crystal Beach aquatic park for putting this on, and raising so much for the animals at the shelter!! I hope this becomes an annual thing. This community loves its furry friends, never can I say this enough! Thank you Jefferson county!! YOU GUYS ROCK!!!

Good afternoon everyone! We just wanted to give you an update of the rest of our adoptions that happened in July. Heidi, Apple Jacks, Echo, Doris, Moo Moo, Bubba, Smacks, Trix, Fruit Loop, and Kevin. Thank you to all of the families that chose their forever pets from JCAS. We all appreciate giving these furbabies a loving home!!

Hello everyone, the shelter will be closed from Aug. 30th until Sept. 3rd. (Friday and Monday we are already normally closed)
The staff and I have decided we need a little break that we don't normally get. There will still be one of us coming each day to feed and clean the animals so don't worry there! We will be back open Tuesday Sept. 3rd for normal business hours. So sorry for any inconvenience this may give and thank you for understanding.

We need adoptions, or decisions have to be made to make space. I thought we were finally in a place where we could achieve and hold on to a No kill status, but I am not sure what is happening, adoptions are at an all-time low (everywhere) and the numbers of animals needing shelter spaces is at an all-time high. Please come adopt, or the likelihood of my next post will be to say we are no longer no kill.

When you look at your animal and think aww it would be cute if you had babies, DON'T! There are too many Great animals looking for homes that will never get a chance to get out of a shelter because your babies took their homes.

I dream of a world where there is a demand for a dog or cat and the shelters have none. Where the only place you can find a companion animal is from a responsible breeder. That there is a waitlist to get an animal and not a waitlist to get rid of one.

Be a solution Spay and Neuter. We all share the goal of ending euthanasia of adoptable pets, but until the population comes drastically down that reality is hard to find. There is only so much shelter people can do, without adopters and rescues (which are full too) how can we stay No kill? Build bigger? Sure, but eventually that space will get full too.

We have some really great dogs looking for their forever homes. The dogs below are spayed/neutered and UTD on shots. If you have other dogs, we always suggest doing a meet and greet to see if they initially like each other. Their adoption fee is only $75(only dogs listed below). We also have a "Foster to Adopt" program for serious adopters that would like to see if a dog will fit their home. Program is a maximum of 30 days to make a decision to adopt. Update: Went to Rescue.

Update: We have named him Aggro, this little guy looks very sweet in the picture, but he's anxious to take a bite out of someone. He does not like a leash, and goes from pet me please to I'll kill you in the blink of an eye. We are not sure if he will be available for adoption. We plan on continuing to work with him but we are looking into rescue for his breed, to be with someone more familiar with his personality, the shelter life is definitely not for him.

Final Update: Though we tried all we could for Mouse, she just couldn't get better. This morning, we decided she was suffering too much and just was not making improvements, actually getting worse. RIP Mouse. So sorry.

Update Again! We found her puppies!!!!!!! 5 very sweet puppies! little hungry and very dehydrated but they are going to be fine!
(they are about 5 weeks old)

Update: Mouse has had both surgeries, first one went great. Second surgery to repair the femur didn't go ideal, and mouse will be hanging out with the vet a little longer. Not sure yet on final outcome. She's doing great though, handling it all like a little trooper!!

We have named this baby Mouse, Mouse needs to have a back broken leg repaired, a laceration and tendon repair of the front leg. Her pelvis was not as bad off as originally thought once x-rays could be taken. Vet is cutting us a deal we need to raise about $500 to get these issues taken care of.
