Cute little Tofu came into see us for itchy skin and was found to have fleas. We recommended putting Tofu on Simparica Trío for the fleas which requires a Flex4 Rapid Test to ensure they are Heartworm negative prior to the start of this medication. As a complete surprise to all of us little Tofu came up positive for Lyme disease which means he has been exposed to Lyme disease through the bite of a tick. No travel history whatsoever. People assume your pet can only be bitten by a tick when hiking or in heavily wooded areas and we have found that your pets can and will pick up ticks and fleas right here in Huntington Beach. The only way to prevent things like Lyme disease are to keep your pet on a monthly flea, tick and Heartworm preventative like Simparica Trío. Ask us how to set up an appointment for your pet to meet with our veterinarian & get them tested and on to a preventative today! 715-587-9068

NOW OFFERING the "Rattlesnake vaccine" aka Crotalus atrox toxoid due to popular demand. Do you and your pooch live an active lifestyle including going on long walks or hikes esp. through the wetlands or on trails? Be advised it is rattlesnake season and the chances of your dog getting bit (specifically on the face) while rooting around in the bushes is exponentially higher. The vaccine helps to protect your pet should they sustain a bite by reducing the damage venom can do while you rush your pet to the closest hospital. Your pet WILL still need urgent medical attention even if they've had the vaccine. If this is your pet's first time getting the vaccine they will need an initial shot and then a booster 30 days later followed by the vaccine annually during peak season (usually in spring or when the weather warms up and rattlesnakes become more active.) Today adorable little Bently the Pomeranian came in to see us because he has been battling a major flea infestation and over the counter preventatives are not working. He was given some prescription strength flea treatment/preventatives and should be feeling a lot more comfortable and less itchy very soon. Cooper the 10.5 year old Catahoula Leopard Dog cross presented today for a routine anesthetic dental cleaning & mass removal surgery. Pre-operative blood work was performed ahead of time to ensure that there were no abnormalities found prior to anesthesia. His entire dental cleaning was performed by our licensed technician Lauren and monitored by our doctor, Dr. DeLancey. We have a brand new state of the art human grade dental unit with ultrasonic scaler, low speed polisher and high speed dental drill (if extractions were ever needed) & dental x-ray unit as well as high end monitoring equipment. From start to finish we ensure that great care is taken to allow each patient to have a safe & smooth anesthetic experience. Spring into action now and schedule an appointment with our veterinarian for flea, tick & heartworm prevention. *Did you know that California never has a true "flea season"?* This is because California never truly gets cold enough that we stop seeing fleas & other ectoparasites in the fall & winter months. However we definitely see increased numbers in the spring & summer. Flea prevention is just that....a preventative. Do not WAIT until your pet is covered in fleas to treat. Fleas cause anemia, allergies & skin infections, hair loss (especially around the tail base & rump), tapeworms, and many diseases including Bartonella (cat scratch fever), Yersinia pestis (the bubonic plague ~yes it still exists in pockets of the southwestern United States), and Typhus. Don't even get us started on ticks & heartworms carried by mosquitos! 714-587-9068

Quick Easter PSA! Lilies are EXTREMELY toxic to cats and moderately toxic to dogs. All parts of the plant including the pollen are toxic to cats. Please be aware that many beautiful Easter flower arrangements have Lilies in them and to keep them far away from your pets. Better yet, find more pet friendly arrangements that do NOT include lilies.
