Foster based throughout Maine - We rescue pit bulls, rehab, train, and find them forever homes. Adopt a pit bull today!

Here at Pittie Posse Rescue & Sanctuary, we have 3 missions:

1. Rescuing pit bulls from unfit living situations in Maine and overcrowded shelters in high-kill cities across the country (pulling from locations that are overwhelmed, such as, but not limited to Gerogia.)

2. Rehabilitation and training of rescued dogs in our care so we’re adopting out dogs that have already completed basic obedienc

e. Lack of manners and difficulty training is one of the top reasons adopted dogs get returned.

3. To make the world a better place for animals: educate the public on the plight of the breed and model responsible dog ownership. We have a love for the misunderstood bully breeds and a passion to give them the love they deserve.

Look at this gorgeous girl! 🤩

Serena finished with her heartworm treatment in Georgia and is ready to complete her journey to Maine.

She’ll need a foster or adopter next weekend when she arrives!

At around three years old, Serena was saved from the euthanasia list in September when we found out she was heartworm positive ❤️‍🩹

Since then, she’s been in boarding and receiving treatment in Georgia.

Serena is a petite 30 pounds and is friendly with other dogs, though she’d do best in a home without cats.

Rory is our longest resident at Pittie Posse Rescue.

She was originally saved in December 2021—that’s almost three years, over 1,000 days, spent waiting for a family who will never leave her behind.

Rory would thrive as the only pet in the home or with slow, structured introductions if there are other dogs.

She also needs a low-traffic home environment.

Rory is independent but deeply loyal once she trusts you. She loves water, basking in the sun or cozy spots around the house, and has a guilty pleasure for digging 🐾

Great news—Amaya is officially heartworm-free and ready to make her way to Maine! 🐶🎉

We saved Amaya from euthanasia in August and we then discovered she was heartworm positive.

Maine law requires that all dogs crossing state lines test negative, so she’s been receiving treatment and patiently waiting in Georgia for this moment.

Now, she’s all set for her freedom ride! 🥹

Amaya is about two years old, 55 pounds, and gets along well with other dogs—and even cats!

This beautiful brindle girl arrives in Maine next weekend and needs a foster or adopter.

Our Story

Pittie Posse Rescue and Sanctuary has three missions:

Rescue of animals: from overcrowded shelters in high-kill cities across the country (pulling from locations that are overwhelmed, such as, but not limited to, the South) as well as from owner surrenders, cruelty cases, and criminal seizures of dogs.

Rehabilitation and training of rescued dogs in our care so we’re adopting out dogs that have already completed basic obedience. Lack of manners and difficulty training this often-stubborn breed is one of the number one reasons adopted dogs get returned. We then carefully place dogs in loving adoptive homes. Our rescue is unique in that we stay in touch with adoptive families– we invite them into a private group where they can keep us updated on the dog, ask for training support, get vet questions answered, and share success pictures of their new pup.

To make the world a better place for the bully breeds and the rescue workers who run themselves ragged to save them: educate the public on the plight of the breed and model responsible dog ownership: including offering on-site training to the public, video training, spay and neuter support, and advocacy.
