Guinness, a rather substantial three-year-old Clydesdale, is held by EMC Vet Tech Rosie Barwick as he is prepared for tibiotarsal arthroscopy surgery.

This procedure, performed by Dr. Norris Adams, Clinical Associate Professor of Equine Surgery, was done to remove "joint mice” or loose osteochondral (OCD) fragments floating in his hock joint that were causing him some discomfort.

After an overnight stay at the hospital, Guinness was ready to head back home!

Many of you know our perfect baby (he’s only THREE!) Guinness—the sweetest gentle giant who has already filled so many hearts at the barn. Although he is “Todd’s Horse”, he quickly became a favorite in our lesson program. Yesterday, we got some terrible news. He has bone chips in his hock that need to be surgically removed. The timing of course couldn’t be worse because we are getting married next week. In lieu of wedding gifts, we would greatly appreciate any donations toward his surgical and recovery costs. A bit of good news is that we will bring him home to our new farm after surgery! His stall is ready for him as soon we get his surgery done. We will be able to keep the closest eye on him and the prognosis should be good. His surgery is scheduled for this upcoming Monday 5/12. Thank you in advance!

Congratulations to the Lake of the Woods Equestrian Center on their purchase of the most saintly unicorn pony Milkshake! We will miss her but are so happy to know she’s in such a perfect home making so many little kids happy, just like she did for us here 🥰 finding forever homes is always my number one goal, but Milkshake will always hold a special place in my heart since she’s been with me for almost 4 years 🦄🥹

“Harlequin” is a 16.1hh, 5 yo, gorgeous registered Appendix bay mare. She is super sweet and loves attention! Quinn is very well broke on the flat with an uphill, floaty canter and beautiful movement. Jumps a course with auto lead changes, and has been schooled up to 2’6” with the potential for more. She also loves trail rides and hacks out alone, and will jump all our scary cross country jumps without batting an eye! Very quiet. Perfect manners, no issues or vices. Sold to an amazing home!

Martini is a 16hh, 5yo Connemara/tb gelding. Super comfortable and always wants to please. Gorgeous mover, very willing, soft mouth and easy to ride. He loves hacking out and cross country, and did a full season of fox hunting third field. Started on his changes although they’re not auto yet. Has been schooling courses in the arena up to 2’. Could be your next show hunter, eventer, fox hunter, you name it and he could do it! No maintenance, issues or vices. Located in Manassas, Va.

The story of Bella Vega Farm:
For those of you who don’t know the story behind our farm name, Vegas was my very first horse and Belle was my second, but that’s not all. Vegas was my heart horse, my wild child chestnut with an attitude, a heart of gold and more try than any horse I’ve known. With him, I learned how to ride. Belle was my first lesson pony, the adorable wonder pony that started it all. With her, I learned how to teach. Both of these ponies shaped me to be the trainer I am today, and I owe it to them for my start in the horse world. Bella Vega Farm: shaping riders from the ground up where it’s not just about riding, it’s about the bond you form with your horse.
