Lyric's puppies are using the potty tray and are drinking from the water bottle now. Fast learning is a good sign. Now since they are eating puppy foods they are getting a bit dirtier. They will soon get a first big grooming. Busy times here at Countryside.

A lot is happening here at Countryside. This is a very important time for mom and her puppies from proper nutrition for both, to introducing age appropriate stimulations and handling of the puppies. I'm working on trust during handling at this time as well as sounds and sights. They have required 2 nail trims so far, which is a good sign that they are getting proper nutrients. Everything is evaluated as we move forward. Mom requires extra nutrition at this time to help the puppies grow properly. With an increase in moms food comes frequent assessments of her milk production and the health of her breasts. Too much food can cause overproduction of milk and if puppies can't use it all, mom's breasts can get engorged and that can lead to mastitis and breast infection. The puppies nails also can cause a scratch to moms breasts that can also cause mastitis infection. Hense that is why frequent nail trims are manditory. It also gets the puppies desensitised to handling of their feet and future life long nail trims. Eventually as their nails thicken i will be intoducing them to a dremel that will grind their nails to a smoother finish. Everything I do at this point has many reasons and evaluations happening to make sure mom and puppies are on track health and development wise. I try to post as frequently as i can because that too is important for the new puppy parents to start dreaming and deciding which puppy pulls at their heart strings. Enjoy these babies every step of the way because before you know it they will be going to their new homes. We still have open spots in both litters.
