(Educational Post)
I wanted to talk about a topic that I witnessed people arguing about on Facebook tonight.
Betta fish;
The argument was, “betta fish can survive in a fish bowl”
Someone was rehoming a fish, another person was interested in said fish, but there were people commenting letting her know to get a larger tank for the fish because it was too small for it to comfortably live in. Someone else commented that they were wrong and bettas can live in fish bowls because theirs survived in one for a bit.
Since, several people who work with animals, as well as me…replied with educational advise along with reputable websites that contain the correct information on care of a betta fish. According to this person, we are all wrong and uneducated.
People please please thoroughly educate yourself before you get a pet!!
Betta fish need way more space than a basic fish bowl. A 10 gallon tank is recommended by several. 5 gallons is the lowest you should go for a betta. That’s not even including the filters and heaters and maintenance.
Here is a website that is a great source of information and education on a betta fish and their care, etc!!
Your bright, beautiful betta fish requires very specific care to ensure its health and happiness, according to veterinarian Dr. Krista Keller.
