Well that's a wrap for the 23/24 upland bird season here in Iowa. As I look back on the season I think to myself WOW birds!!!! It was a record year for harvested birds, both Roosters and Quail. The dogs and I only made it to Kansas once to chase quail this season but Iowa numbers really seemed to thrive. Most weekends we saw a covey or two and it didn't matter what county we were in. I upgraded to the Garmin 300 GPS collar system, that was a game changer! I can honestly say it helped me bag 15 to 20% more birds. Running 5 dogs at once is not for everyone or most hunters and I understand that. My friends never complain and I'm thankful for that. My dogs are my passion but there is a business side to it. I don't believe in leaving a couple at home and rotating who goes that day. When you having a kennel in year around production it takes having a handful of dogs that span alot of years in age. I'm a small kennel with only 1 or 2 litters a year and once I retire a female from breeding they stay right here with me and my family as they are family pets just as much as hunting dogs. I would like to thank all the land owners who allow me to do what I love. 2024 will be an exciting year as my next breeding female comes into her own and helps expand my kennel.
