Blue-tongued skinks are fascinating reptiles with strong bodies and short legs. Adult specimens measure up to 24 inches long and can weigh more than 1 kilogram! (2.2 lbs). The species is characterized by a banded pattern and a blue-violet to cobalt blue tongue. Active during the day, it feeds on a diverse diet of insects, snails, frogs, small reptiles, small birds, small mammals, fruits and vegetation. This adaptable animal often finds habitat in urban and suburban areas, including residential areas, where it is considered beneficial as it feeds on garden pests like slugs and snails.

🐸HOPPY FRIDAY!🐸

The Roque Tree Frog (Hyloscirtus phyllognathus) inhabits subtropical or tropical lowland and montane forests in Peru, Ecuador and Colombia. It is difficult to spot due to its fantastic camouflage and secretive habits. Rarely venturing out into the open, the frog prefers to call hidden under leaves and rocks.

The Namib Sand Gecko developed broad, fully webbed feet to adapt to the harsh conditions of the Namib Desert. Their specialized feet with adhesive pads help these nocturnal hunters stay on top of the fine sand at night while simultaneously allowing them to dig the burrows where they spend most of the day, protected from the desert heat. 🏜️

🐸Phyllobates terribilis, or the golden poison arrow frog, is endemic to humid forests of Colombia's Pacific coast. Its range is less than 5,000 square km and is only found in primary rainforests. Habitat destruction has put Phyllobates terribilis on international endangered species lists. 🌎The largest morph of the golden poison arrow frog is from around La Brea in Colombia, and is called the "Mint-morph", rather misleading as the frogs from this area can be metallic green, pale green, or white. ☠️P. terribilis has one of the most potentially deadly toxins on the planet! It is a critical frog to the local indigenous rainforest people. This frog is the primary source of the poison in the darts used by the natives to hunt their food. 🏹These native tribes carefully expose the frog to the heat of a fire, and the frog exudes small amounts of poisons.
