Hi Everyone!
While doing our yearly health screenings within the last month Chevys heart results have come back concerning. She was passed on her Echocardiogram but the results were equivocal, so we ran blood work and her proBNP levels are elevated, although she is showing no symptoms of a heart condition. A 24hr Holter monitor is being done next but at this time our canine cardiologist is going to start her on a medication protocol. Zara is from Chevys 2nd Litter (2022), At this time all of Zara's pre- breeding testing has come back normal. I did have intentions of breeding Zara and Phoenix later this year but the cardiologists recommends holding off until 2025 and redoing all the girls echos and holters then, due to Chevys results. It is very important to catch these things early! I highly recommend doing yearly testing on dobermans once they reach 2-3years! At the rate that dobermans are developing heart disease even with having no predisposed genetic components it is so important to take preventative measures! Dobermans can still have long healthy lives even with thyroid or heart conditions through medication treatments but it is important to catch it early! An Echocardiogram and/or 24hr Holter are great options, but at minimum yearly blood work/heart panel can be requested by your veterinarian.
I will post updates as I get more information back regarding Chevys 24hr Holter results.
