As I prepare for my day, I am disheartened to learn about the challenges my colleagues are facing. Please remember that your Riding Instructor is a professional who relies on their work to earn a living, pay bills, and support their family. When students cancel or fail to show up for lessons, instructors experience a significant loss of income, which can have a profound impact on their ability to make a living. I understand that this is a hobby for many, but it is essential to recognize the financial implications of cancellations on instructors. A single cancellation can result in hundreds of dollars in lost income per week or month. Consider how unexpected pay cuts would affect you. Lesson horses require ongoing care, including food and farrier services, regardless of cancellations. The current time of year is particularly challenging due to weather and holidays, leading to a surge in cancellations. Unfortunately, this has resulted in many professionals leaving the industry as they struggle to survive. I fear that if this trend continues, there will be a scarcity of lesson barns and horses in the future. Please remember that your Equestrian Professional is working hard to make a living and survive, and I hope that horses will continue to be available for future generations.

Thank You to a fellow horseman for these well written words! I have struggled with making people accountable for their lesson times for many years & leaving it all behind has often been a thought on my mind. Please Don’t starve us out in the winter…..
