And remember to keep snack bags and plastic food containers safely confined. Pet suffocation cannhappen in under 2 minutes and it occurs FAR too often!

PLEASE don’t let “outside” dogs suffer or even die in these extreme temperatures!!!
Highs in the 30's and lows in the teens are coming!

BRING THEM INSIDE: The best option is to keep all pets indoors. However, if they must stay outside, you must ensure they have adequate protection from the harsh cold. Breeds like Huskies are equipped to handle winter thanks to their thick double coats, which provide insulation. On the other hand, dogs like Pit mixes, with their thinner coats and exposed undersides, are more susceptible to the cold and should either be brought inside or given insulated shelter. Puppies and older, frail, or sick dogs are particularly at risk in cold weather and require additional protection.

PROVIDE SHELTER: When temperatures drop below 45 degrees, having access to an insulated doghouse, garage, or shed can help keep your dog warm. Dogs that are used to living indoors or in milder climates should not be left outside during freezing conditions. Make sure the shelter is readily accessible, as you may not be home when the temperatures plummet.

INSULATE SHELTER: While a plastic or wooden doghouse can shield them from wind, it won't keep them warm without proper insulation. Use straw bedding—not hay—to insulate outdoor shelters. If you’re using straw to insulate a doghouse, it should be packed tightly along the sides and back. The dog should be able to burrow down into the straw for warmth. Bales of straw typically cost $10 or less at local feed stores and can fill 3-4 doghouses.

Dogs MUST have UNFROZEN water. Be sure to check on this several times a day

I am heartbroken to make this post; we have suffered a horrible thing here in our little hills and hollers and it has not left one person uneffected. We will spend the coming weeks and months picking up the pieces and each other. A lot of lives, homes and jobs lost. I sit here clinging to my child thinking of all the mothers who just clinged to theirs as they spent their last moments together. I have read post after post of people pleading for help. People running out of water, food, and time. I’m young, strong, willing, and able to help. These are our neighbors.
We are without power and running water here and I’m on limited resources for the dogs. I have clients trapped and unable to pickup their pets. I will have to cancel all bookings until we get power and water again. I can only kennel dogs in emergency (life or death) situations for folks right now but I’m willing and able if the need is there. I can take donations to help feed these pets until they can be reunited with their families. Please reach out if you feel I can help in any way and I’ll do my best to make sure the need is met.

"Animals choose to come into our lives. They are part of our karma and we are part of theirs. Sometimes they are found "abandoned" or wandering, in the middle of a road or in danger in the heart of the night; other times they are found at the front door of the house, as sent by fate; other times they arrive from loved ones, neighbors or strangers.

Animals were already in our karma at least. In this life, as in the others. According to Brian Weiss, the same animal often incarnates itself several times during our lifetime, simply changing shape and coat, and being recognized by small gestures, details and subtle habits. This is clearly seen with cats.

When a "new" animal enters our house and knows exactly where to go, it's a sign that it simply says back. Many people, at the moment of death, receive the soothing vision not of a deceased relative, but rather of an animal. This means a lot. Because for our soul there is no difference between one species and another.

Animals are in our evolutionary path just like we are in theirs, for this reason we must respect them as sacred creatures and take the greatest care of them. They are part of us, in a different form of the universe."
