I'd like to introduce our clients to a woman who provides animal care locally. I recently met Nicole who helped us trap a displaced cat. Nicole is a lovely soul and I think her services can be of value to our clients. Here is her info.

Fold of Friends is a mindful animal care service based in Marion, North Carolina. We are proud to offer loving, individualized caregiving to domestic, exotic and farm companion animals. Pet sitting services include dog walks, visits and transport. Animals with special needs including medical, differently abled, senior, hospice and the behaviorally sensitive can be properly supported. Health, happiness and harmony are the cornerstones of our care services with safety being paramount.

Fold of Friends was founded in the spirit of joy and love for animals by enduring advocate and caregiver, Nicole Ganas. Nicole has been lovingly and mindfully caring for animals over the last 30 years and has fine tuned her craft of caregiving in a professional sense through the private, shelter, sanctuary, veterinary and rescue sectors. As Fold of Friends, Nicole is delighted for the opportunity to share time with the special beings we call companions. Nicole has received Fear Free training through her shelter and rescue work and is a member of Pet Sitters International.

18 cats altered

We just passed a major milestone of 2519 cats altered since the TNR- TRAP, Neuter, Return, feral cat program began in April 2009!

I'm so grateful to the dedicated donors and helpers who made this possible.

Let's keep on

With the weather cooling down, it's a great time to start thinking about your community cats and how to keep them safe and warm this winter. Here is a guide to DIY winter shelters! HES will have these pre-made and available to the public in the coming weeks, as well.
👇👇👇

A HOW TO for building simple community (feral) cat winter shelters!

Extras and Pro Tips:
-Line the opening of the hole with duct tape to prevent cats from chewing the edges
-Raise the cooler off the ground for added warmth
-Weigh the shelter down by putting something on top so it doesn’t blow away
-Place the cooler in a plastic tote. Cut a hole in the tote to line up with the cooler's hole for an extra layer of protection.

Support TNR- TRAP, Neuter, Return, feral cat program

We had to cancel October due to Helene.

Winter is a good time to play catch-up.

Yes, cats breed in the winter too. Fix them now!

Love them or hate them ... Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is the ANSWER!!!!

❤️ Love community cats? ...
You can help the cats in your neighborhood by TNRing them. Spaying female cats means she won't go into heat, get pregnant, and birth kittens outdoors. Spayed females won’t attract new male cats to your neighborhood, and when you get the male cats neutered, you’ll be making their life MUCH easier. No more fighting over female cats or stinky spraying to mark their territory. And fewer cat fights keep diseases like FIV from spreading.

đźš« Hate community cats?
Removing cats from your neighborhood is NOT an effective solution because it creates the “vacuum effect” meaning new cats will move in to start the cycle of reproduction all over again. But when you get the cats fixed and RETURN them to your neighborhood, the cats will no longer be reproducing and less new cats will move in. TNR means less odor, less noise, and fewer cats being born. 👍👍👍

No blankets

Feline Fact Friday - Do you know why STRAW is best for outdoor cat shelters?
--------
It's starting to cool down, so now is a great time to clean out those winter cat shelters. Make sure to completely empty the shelter of old straw and give the shelter a good wipe down.

‼️Remember - STRAW IS FOR STRAYS, HAY IS FOR HORSES

Please remember to ONLY USE STRAW. If a damp/wet cat goes into a shelter with a cat bed, towels, blankets, or hay, moisture is retained in those materials, which actually makes the cat colder.

Straw repels moisture and retains the cat's body temperature, keeping the cat dry and warm.

Thank you for keeping the community cats dry and warm in these cooler months.
