It is with mixed feelings that I am announcing the closure of Evans Family Pet Care. I would like to take a moment to thank all the people over the past 15 years that have been an integral part of making this practice successful. My husband and children have been my biggest support system and cheerleaders along the way and I couldn’t have done this without them. They’ve also been extraordinarily patient and understanding when I’ve missed or been late to school, sport, or family events because a pet needed help. This list also includes not only the wonderful, caring, skilled staff members I’ve worked with over the years, but my landlords, supply account representatives, and accountants that have answered many of my questions and provided much needed support and education along the way.

And you, my clients – many of whom I’m so pleased to call friends - and your wonderful pets. They say that if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. Well, I won’t lie, some days were actually work, but I certainly have never been bored! I’ve seen many new puppies and kittens grow into beloved family members and I’ve grieved with you as you’ve had to say goodbye. It’s an honor to have been part of your lives.

I have taken an associate veterinarian position in Brookings, SD at Big Sioux Veterinary Clinic. I’ll start working there later this summer, so feel free to look me up there.

The clinic will remain open and operational through July 12, 2024. We ask that you contact the clinic via email, text or phone so that we can email your pets’ medical records either directly to you or to the veterinary clinic of your choice.

Sincerely,
Brenda Evans, DVM, CVA

It’s that time of year again in Minnesota! The grass is growing, the lilacs are blooming, and the gnats have come out to feast!

These flat, bright red spots that are usually most visible on the belly and armpit areas of your dog are most likely gnat bites. They look awful, but thankfully usually don’t seem to bother the dogs too much. They will fade over 3-4 days, looking like a faint red ring before eventually disappearing.

Your best defense against these irritating insects is to avoid grassy areas and around lilac bushes. Easy-peasy, right? 🙄 Thankfully, the worst of the season is usually over in a couple of weeks.

If your dog is excessively itchy, is acting otherwise ill, or has other types of rash or hair loss, do make sure you check in with your veterinarian to make sure nothing more serious is going on.

📣LOST DOG📣
Lost dog in Marshall. She took off from 607 Deschepper. Her name is Ivy. She is microchipped and has her tags on. She was just recently groomed so her hair will be shorter. She is a very loved dog. If found please call the clinic or the owner at 507-829-2253.

Good snowy Tuesday! The roads are not great today so Dr. Evans is not able to make it into Marshall from her home. The clinic is open this morning if you need to pick up food or medications but we will plan to close early to make sure everyone can get home again safely. We will do our best to keep everyone updated if our hours have to change later in the week. Stay tuned! And stay warm and dry!

25/03/2024

Due to the forecasted winter storm warning, the clinic will be CLOSED Monday, March 25.

22/03/2024

Happy Friday! We are supposed to get some nasty weather over the weekend, so we are expecting to be closed Monday 3/25. If you need medication or food refills before then, please stop by the clinic this afternoon. Stay warm this weekend!

We hope this message finds you and your furry companions in good health and high spirits. Dr. Evans will be taking a well-deserved vacation starting from January 22nd and will return on February 5th. During this time, the rest of our team will still be available at the office for prescription and food pickups, ensuring that your pets receive the continuous care they deserve. We have also arranged for a visiting doctor who will be available on selected days to provide routine care and address common issues. Our hours will remain the same with the exception of closing at 5:30pm instead of 7pm on 1/22 and 1/29.
In the event of an emergency while Dr. Evans is away, we want to assure you that we are here to support you. We can help with transferring medical records and locating an emergency hospital near you. We will also be keeping track of all records to ensure seamless follow-ups once Dr. Evans returns.
Please be advised that our emergency after-hours line will NOT be available during Dr. Evans' absence. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
Thank you for entrusting us with the well-being of your cherished pets. We look forward to continuing to serve you with the same love and care that you and your furry family members deserve.

If you're keeping up with the news, you may have seen stories about a "mysterious" canine respiratory disease spreading in the US. At this time this illness does not seem to be widespread in Minnesota. Still, in the best interest of our furry friends, we recommend adhering to the following guidelines from the Minnesota Board of Animal Health:

- Keep sick dogs at home and isolated from other dogs for 30 days.

- Avoid contact with sick dogs and consider leaving pets at home when visiting other households with dogs.

- Ensure all recommended vaccinations are up to date.

- Be aware that some dogs are at higher risk of more severe disease and may require early intervention. These include dogs that are: puppies, seniors, have underlying health conditions, and brachycephalic breeds.

- Keep up with good cleaning and disinfection practices.

If you have any questions, please contact the clinic by calling or texting 507-929-7387.

📢 Important Announcement: Changes to Our Food Ordering Process!

Dear valued clients,

We hope this message finds you well. As we strive to enhance our services and streamline your experience, we want to inform you of an upcoming change in our food ordering process.

Starting from the beginning of 2024, we will be switching to online orders for pet food. This means you can conveniently place your orders through our online pharmacy at evansfpc.myvetstoreonline.pharmacy/shop . We're excited to offer you the ease of online ordering and the option to set up auto-ship for your convenience.

While we will maintain a small supply of food in our clinic, please be aware that it will be limited. We understand that this adjustment may cause some inconvenience, and we sincerely apologize for any disruption to your routine.

Thank you for your understanding and continued trust in Evans Family Pet Care. We are committed to providing the best possible service for you and your furry friends.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to us. We appreciate your support as we work to make these improvements.

Best regards,

Evans Family Pet Care

Are you thinking about having your dog boarded during the upcoming holiday season? Here are 3 things you should know:

1. If your furry friend hasn't been to a pet boarding facility before, they might not have received all the necessary vaccines that the kennel requires.

Besides core vaccines like rabies and distemper, kennels often ask for additional vaccines to safeguard against diseases that can easily spread in large groups of dogs.

2. Vaccine requirements can differ from one kennel to another.

Each kennel sets its own rules regarding vaccinations and may update their requirements based on local outbreaks. Please contact your kennel to find out what their current requirements are.

3. Vaccines don't offer full protection until at least two weeks after the first annual dose.

Even if your chosen kennel permits boarding shortly after vaccinations, it's wise to schedule their vaccines at least two weeks before the boarding date. Some vaccines, such as leptospirosis or canine influenza, may also require booster shots 3-4 weeks after the initial dose, so make sure to plan accordingly.

Our schedule fills up fast during the holiday season, so please let us know if your pets need boarding vaccines! If you have any questions about your pet's vaccines or would like to schedule an appointment, contact us through the PetDesk app or by calling or texting us at 507-929-7387.
