**ALERT**
The West Virginia State Veterinary office as been reaching out to clinics to let us know about confirmed positive cases of canine influenza virus, canine flu, specifically the H3N2 virus. While we have only had confirmed cases in Wheeling, WV, we are strongly recommending clients getting their dogs vaccinated at this time.

Signs of dog flu include cough, runny nose, fever, lethargy, eye discharge, and a decreased appetite. Most dogs recover in a few weeks, but serious cases can progress to pneumonia. It is going to affect dogs that are boarding, grooming, and in the shelters.

For our clients, if your pet has been seen within the last year, we can see your pet as a technician appointment. If the animal has never had the vaccine before they do require a second booster.

Now while we do not wish to cause a panic, we do want people to take this seriously. Even if you use other veterinary services we recommend getting the vaccine to help prevent an out break in the near future. With this being a possibility, there is also a possibility of short supply of the vaccines as well. We also urge people to be understanding and patient with all the veterinary clinics, as this is not something we can control.

RMWV Giving Back ...

‼️ Free Dog Food Giveaway ‼️

We are holding another dog food give away tomorrow, Thursday, May 4, 2023. From 5:30pm til 6:30pm (unless we run out sooner).

This is for the community ❤. If you need some dry dog food, stop by and pick up two bags.
** We do ask that you only come to get food, if you really need it. We have not been getting as much donated as we used to get in and have a limited amount.

➡️ This is dry dog food only, we do NOT have cat food to pass out.
➡️ We can not guarantee brands. (But it is a mix of Grain free and regular.)
➡️ Limit of 2 bags of food per car. Not per person or dog. Please be respectful of that, we are trying to help as many different homes as possible.

In foster to adopt home 🥰

Chloe (formerly Scottie) is looking for her furever family. She had her dental done recently and only got to keep a few teeth. But now that her vetting is completed, she is available.

Chloe was found as a stray, so we don’t have a history on her. She has been in a foster home since we pulled her into rescue, and this is what her fomom has to say:

Chloe is a sweet dog, but it takes her a little while to warm up to new people. Give her time. Once she is comfortable she is a very sweet and loving girl.

She is housebroken, but may have an occasional accident if left alone long. She is comfortable in a kennel, walks well on a leash, and knows how to sit, shake, lie down, and roll over.

She is great with kids and cats. She is good with most dogs, but she wants to be the dominate dog, so more submissive dog would be best. She would do extremely well in a home with retirees or where someone is home a lot.

She travels well and is always ready to go.

Chloe is estimated to be around 7 years old. She is 24 lbs. and completely vetted.

We do all of our adoptions as foster-to-adopt. That gives you and them time to settle in together and make sure it’s going to be a good fit. Once the trial period is done, then adoption will be finalized. (3-4 weeks approx, could be longer if more time is needed)
