We had intakes over the weekend ranging in numbers around 30+. We had one we couldn’t save, we have several in foster and we have many getting fixed today.
………..Then we have JACK JACK 💙 Many of you may remember Jack Jack from several months ago. He was found in an outdoor cat colony with a severe injury to his back flesh. We did find out that Jack Jack had an owner, and we were able to assist in two surgeries to repair this injury. Unfortunately Jack Jack was unable to get the continued treatment needed, and he is now with us for a third (hopefully final) round.

Thank you to South Side Animal Hospital and their amazing staff! Jack Jack was seen immediately. He has quite the fight ahead with maggots present in his injury and his FIV diagnosis. We had to give him a chance. He deserves it. He has months ahead of laser treatments and healing. The next 2 weeks will be his hardest. He is in good hands with the staff and one of them is even fostering him.

Send some good vibes to Jack Jack please. We are Team Jack Jack and hope to report back soon good news.🐾🐈😊

How You Can Help Community Cats Stay Safe
🐾Talk to Your Neighbors
Let them know a cat colony is nearby. Encourage quieter celebrations or the use of low-noise fireworks if permitted. Even one compassionate choice can make a difference.
🐾Set Up Safe Spaces
If you care for outdoor cats, reinforce shelters Use straw or cardboard (not fabric) to sound-insulate inside the shelter.
🐾Feed Early and Secure Resources
Feed before dark on the 4th of July.Ensure water is fresh and shaded.
🐾Avoid Trapping on or Around Firework Holidays
Never set humane traps on the day of fireworks. Cats may panic, injure themselves, or bolt permanently if they sense danger while caged.
💡 Bonus: Share This Info Before the Booms Begin
🐾 Beyond One Night: Why This Matters
If fireworks traumatize cats once a year, imagine what constant noise, neglect, and danger do the rest of the time.

$5 Feline Friday 🐾❤️🐈

We had several intakes for cats/kittens needing medical attention this week PLUS our ongoing medical cat Wawa. Here’s some updates:

🧡Wawa is going to be seen next week for his 6 week checkup. He will be getting X-rays to be sure his broken leg and ribs are healing well.

🩵Bert and Ernie are two rambunctious little guys weighing in at UNDER a pound. They were dumped with their deceased sibling in a cardboard box!

💛Peche is an absolutely sweet peach that was surrendered by her owner to get the medical attention she needs for her skin issues that have been causing her discomfort and pain.

Help outdoor cats stay cool during extreme heat by provide shaded areas, plenty of fresh water, or frozen water bottles. 💦 You can also create a more comfortable environment with raised beds and airflow.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
1. Frozen water bottles:
Place frozen bottles of water around shaded areas or under bedding to create cool spots for the cats.
2. Water Access:
Multiple water sources: Provide several water bowls in shaded locations to encourage drinking.
Fresh, cool water: Change the water frequently to keep it cool and clean.
3. Cooling Aids:
Cooling mats: These can be placed in shaded areas for the cats to lie on.
4. Frozen treats: Offer frozen treats like shaved ice with tuna juice or frozen yogurt.
5. Wet towels: Place damp, cool towels in shaded areas for cats to rest against.

We can all make a difference in the lives of our community cats!
