Fun Friday!
It is a hot 🥵 summer, so here is a good reminder of how the pavement will hurt your dog 🐕 in seconds.
Thank you Compassionate Care Veterinary Hospital of Charlotte for the referral to work with Maggie Pancakes an adolescent Cavapoo.
Their goals:
Goals:
1. Eliminate her need to guard things
2. Reduce her grumpiness growls
3. Reactive listening
4. Reduce Barkiness if possible
5. Understand how to train her better and more effectively (Tone of voice, methods, words ect.
Achieved ✅ 😉
Brag post:
6 years ago we did puppy training together. Saturday I had lunch with Ivy Grace and Sue. We talked about all the wonderful accomplishments they have made in canine good citizen, therapy work, rally, and scentwork!
She said she is ready to try barn hunt.
I remember how determined Sue was to reach her goals
and she would leave class sometimes in tears out of frustration because Ivy Grace truly was a wild puppy that had her own thought process on how to do things.
I’m thrilled that they both learned how to achieve harmony, so they could continue on to do so many fun things.
Aiming for progress instead of perfection is the key.
I recall when I told Sue that she was not ready for CGC or therapy work. She was devastated. I told her she might have to wait until Gracie matures.
Sue just told me that she knew what I was talking about now looking back.
I just laughed.
Thank you Barbara Rooney for the referral to work with Duke.
Their Gosls simply stated one word…Obedience.
We have done just that with this young pup figuring out his place in his home with 2 and 4 legged visitors and in other setting too.
Thank you Kim Skinner and Bennett for the referral to work with Magnificent Miley.
The family gosls were to have better greetings of other dogs, people, and kids. Improve her recall. Find a calm down button,🤣.
Miley is a fun, young, energetic gal that is eager to have a world 🌎 full of fun friends.
She has done remarkably well increasing her ability to focus and stay on task in public settings. We look forward to having her join our classes now that she has completed her private lessons and her family have learned how to manage her with new skill sets and reasonable expectations.
Thank you Lisa Hathaway and Emily Prosser for the wonderful referral to work with Talia.
Family Training Goals: Lessen her fear of road traffic. Have her look to them for commands in all situations. Less nippiness/mouthiness.
When we first started working with Talia, it was evident that she was already advanced with some of the basic obedience, so we built upon what she already knew.
She is extremely toy driven, so it was nice to add some play reward to her work time.
Being a bit skittish of cars, we worked on desensitizing and building her confidence around cars. She has made huge progress.
Another main goal was to work on recall and distance work while out in public with distraction. She has made improvement, but she will continue to make more progress as she goes out and about with her family as often as she does.
Great work all around from a dedicated family to endure Talia is the best well rounded family dog.
Thank you South Charlotte Dog Rescue for the referral to work with Hazel.
Goals: Well behaved family dog who responds to basic commands, walks on a leash well, doesn't jump on strangers/ house guests (due to excitement), well behaved in public places - all while maintaining her happy, enthusiastic disposition.
Hazel worked hard during her training lessons learning all the tools of basic obedience.
Once we had those tools nailed down, we were able to utilize those tools on leash walking. It was so fun to see Hazel checking in more often on walks creating more of a connection between her and her people.
Super proud of the progress they have made and the fact they are having fun with her and even tried a new sport, dock diving!
Thank you Beth Kohlbrenner and Millie for the referral to work with Steve and his family.
Goals: A well behaved dog who listens to our whole family and can interact in social settings.
Steve, the mild mannered golden retriever, brings such joy to his family.
He is playful yet knows when he needs to get his beauty sleep. He enjoys working in small segments of time. He enjoys his walks and looks forward to meeting new people.
His family has done a great job loving on him and teaching him all the good manners
Thank you Carolina Pets Animal Hospital for the referral to work with Lolha a Tibetan Terrier puppy.
Lolha is a ball full of energy! She is a smart girl who enjoys learning new things.
One main goal was to work on recall so that she will recall when out in the large fenced yard with lots to sniff and smell. By the end of the lessons, we learned that “touch” was a very helpful trick to recall her! By continuing to make recall fun and rewarding, she was more inclined to recall when it truly was time to go inside
Thank you Lisa Hathaway for the referral to work with Cocoa and her new family.
Cocoa is an eager to learn dog and does enjoy “work time”.
One main goal that she is still working on is appropriate settle time. This takes some time and patience with potential underlying anxiety.
This is a case of behavior modification vs obedience.
Assessing nurture vs nature, environment setting, appropriate exercise physically and mentally, and the right fit for family and dog.
Happy Mother’s Day 🐾
The second Saturday in May is National Dog Mom Day!
Personally, to us that is Everyday!

Meet this bundle of fun named Boone!
When we were asked to help with this puppy the family goals were:
1. To have fun and bond with Boone.
2. To have a well behaved and good mannered dog, who listens and obeys simple commands.
3. To feel confident that Boone could be around people and other animals.
All these goals were put aside until the family could survive trying to sleep through the night, navigate potty training, and gain independence to leave their home without accidents occurring in the crate due to stress.
Puppy 🐶 Exhaustion is real. It definitely zaps some of the joy of having a puppy especially when living on house arrest to tend to a puppy non stop to gain some control, comfort,
and confidence.
Gaining headway on the original goals can be achieved now that they have overcome a difficult beginning.
It is hard going from the “perfect” senior dog to soupy that is a completely different personality.
Boone will be fantastic at agility, parkour, therapy, etc. given the right tools to succeed he will be a champ.
Keeping our Charlotte community in our thoughts and prayers recognizing the fallen officers and their families who gave their lives yesterday doing their job to keep us all safe.
Thank you to our fans on Nextdoor for the referral to work with Fezzik a Standard Poodle Puppy.
The main trading gosls were: Crate Training and General Obedience.
Seems straightforward enough, but not when Fezzik is adamant that crate life is not his way of life.
He is a smart fellow and is lucky to have such a devoted family. He comes to our puppy socialization and group training classes regularly in addition to in home private lessons.
We are seeing progress and they are always open to learning.
Thank you to an awesome referral from Lifetime Fitness we got to work with an amazing team…Bailey and Stephanie.
Their Goals: That Bailey will follow commands, walk nicely on a leash, and only greet people when given a command.
Bailey is an energetic young pup labrador who loves people more than life itself.
Stephanie stayed consistent and gained confidence in her handling skills with her training outside of our lessons utilizing the tools she has learned.
While Bailey is still young and energetic, she has a great foundation to continue to channel that energy when needed.
Stephanie does a wonderful job giving Bailey the opportunity to just be the playful lab that she is as well.
We look forward to having them in our group classes to continue their training together.
We believe having fun with your dog 🐕 is top priority when doing obedience training classes!
Thank you Cristina Friedman and fans on social media for the referral to work with Jordan.
Their goals were to get him house trained, crate trained, overall obedience (they said he eats and chews on everything that isn’t a toy!)
Jordan is an adolescent chihuahua who needs some time to warm up to people he first meets. Once he warms up to people he knows, he is a friendly little guy that enjoys being pet.
He enjoys learning new obedience commands as well as learning new fun tricks.
He made huge progress with his potty training success by using the tips and trips recommended.
We also worked on reactivity outside. This will take some time and practice. They are heading in the right direction with the new skills they have learned.
Keep up with the progress!
Puppy 🐶 Social Group is always a hit!

Thank you Kelly Lowry Edgerton for the referral to work with Lovey💜.
Training goals: Manners, Behave on leash and when greeting people in the house 🏡 and outside.
Julie initiated the call to seek training in Aug. 2023, then again mid Jan. 2024, and finally in Feb. 2024. Finally she signed up stating she wanted to focus solely on walking. Little did she know that was not in the cards. As a team, they had a lot of foundation skills to build before even thinking about going outside to walk. We always work on the handling skills first and then work with the dog.
They worked diligently over the last few months with wonderful results.
Slow and steady progress is best for this team. We can see a therapy team, in the future, no doubt in our minds.

Let's end 2023 with a BANG!!! Meet Paul and his best pal, Vinny. Vinny was rescued 13 years ago by Paul. Vinny was used as a bait dog and bit 10 people in a week of being recused. Paul asked me to help guide him to ensure Vinny was given a life of phenomenal changes. To my surprise a few weeks ago, out of the blue, I received this email from Paul and once again we reunited to help Vinny thrive with new life challenges. I wish every dog had a Paul in their life to believe in only the best outcomes and spoil the dog with structure, play, love, and all the potato chips the older pooch wants at 17 years old, LOL! Hi Amy, It's been a long time (13 years,) I hope all is well. I hope you remember my dog, Vinny. He's now going on 17. Last year, he developed a low-grade sarcoma in his front leg. We had it removed and thought we got it all but a year after the surgery the cancer came back and the leg was amputated. We didn't make the choice lightly. We had all his joints X-ray'd and didn't see any arthritis. We had his organs ultrasound - everything is perfect. His blood work was textbook. Both his regular vet and surgeon said he was a perfect candidate for the surgery. They surgery was 3 weeks ago and he's doing great! Even missing a leg he has yet to have an accident in the house. Our training with you made for an awesome life together! We're hoping you can possibly help us again. Life with a tripod is certainly different and we can use some help navigating the changes. For instance, as you may recall, we live in a townhome with a lot of stairs. Eventually, I'll need to get him up and down. Vinny is also hard-of-hearing. Learning new things may be a challenge. The bottom line is if you're up for a new challenge, we'd like to schedule some sessions with you to teach an old dog new tricks. Please let me know if this is something you can use with. Thanks!!! P. D.
K9sUnleashed always look forward to joining the Village of Marvin Government for their Annual Tree 🌲 Lighting Ceremony. Charlie and Max were the dynamic duo that proved to be a crowd pleaser in the Christmas 🎄 Kissing Booth!
A class designed to work on impulse control and attention skills. The dogs learn to wait patiently for cues to be rewarded or released by the handler.
These 3 women have worked diligently with their dogs 🐕 over the last several weeks. Their goal was to not be embarrassed 🙈 in public settings by their dogs over exuberant or overreactive behaviors to stimulation in public places. We want to recognize the time and effort they have applied as a team! Help us cheer 📣 them on for more good things to come as a reward of their commitment to training techniques and improved handling skills.
Our drop in classes are a great way to continue to improve on your handling skills and communication with your dog 🐶! Kudos to these teams for their efforts and dedication and most importantly for being coachable and open to learning. Keep up the good work. Your dog loves your one on one time and attention.
Group class is a wonderful way to work on all the skills you have learned at home. We are pleased to see these teams walk in sync with multiple distractions in an outdoor environment.
