A valid question! A question I have gotten the last few weeks. You guys know Iโm all about explanation so here it is ๐
The most simple explanation I can give is captive bred second generations and more to come are different as we know the bloodline accurately now and know there are absolutely no genetic concerns.
Captive bred first generations are just as important. They are the backbone to our research as we raise the spoods that we bred. They become the parents of our next generation line if we carry that line on.
Yes second generations and generations to come are usually a bit more in fees and here is why.
By second generations hatch date, it has been 2 different pairings within the same bloodline to create next generations off of first.
Next itโs about 2 years of hard work and dedication to that line raising.
That is a longtime or daily hard work and care!
We know this line now inside and out.
What is the difference for you as a customer?
You know those genetics are strong. That breeder can answer everything and anything as they know that bloodline through and through.
Personally, I like to continue on lines with females of that line. Just personal preference on my behalf. Males absolutely carry on a line also.
Did you know that you can have a next generation with two of your lines when you bred with different fathers in first generations? ๐ซcrossbreeding please.
We have our first second generations with 2 of my first generation lines growing right now, eeek!
When you adopt a captive bred spider, you adopt a whole package.
The package includes daily hard work and dedication in getting a successful pairing.
Months upon months of raising that clutch until adoption days.
With us Spood Oddities knowing you are getting a socialized spood that has been handled and played with often.
You get history of that bloodline including both parents information. You know that spoods hatch date (birth date).
You know that spoods last molt date.
You know what that spood will and wonโt accept as feeders.
You know that spoods exact stage of life the day you ad0pt.
With us, you know you arenโt getting a gravid (pregnant) female that will go on to lay hundreds of babies. That is HUGE!
You can contact me and most other br33ders 24/7 with any and all questions and or concerns about the spider you have ad0pted.
You get a relationship with that br33der.
All we ask for in return is to continue caring for, loving and keeping us updated on how that spood is doing.
Itโs a mutual trust between both customer and br33der.
Well said ๐ฏ
When you ad0pt from a reputable breeder, you get the whole package ๐ซถ
You get birth dates, last molt dates, history of parents and bloodline, accepted feeders, you can message at anytime with any questions pertaining to their spider you adopted.
Please keep it to messaging where you ad0pt from in regards to questions on a spider. We wonโt know bloodline, history etc and it can make us a bit uncomfortable when asked. Thanks a bunch.
You get a relationship with that breeder and help with their spider at all times. Usually hours upon hours of communication.
We as breeders just like you as a customer hold the right to refuse an adoption if we feel itโs not in our spiders best interest. Months upon months of hard work and dedication are poured into adopting from a reputable breeder vs getting one from outside.

Ways to tell a white phased male Phidippus regius jumping spider apart from another phase.
In my experience raising other phases with breeding white phases, here is what Iโve taken note of.
White phased males have more white banding on their legs than other phases. This is a huge telltale sign.
The larger marking on a white phase male is whole whereas the larger often middle marking on other phases Iโve raised and ad0pted myself is broken/split.
White phase males will have lots of white hairs whereas other phases do not and often none.
Light line males some will call a โlight phaseโ will often resemble white phases with less white hairs and sometimes not as much in way of white leg banding.
Hope this helps.
All regal males besides those that carry the recessive white gene will be black with white markings very early in life and it can be hard to differentiate the phases of phidippus regius males without knowledge.
All males shown are our Spood Oddities males ๐ค

The s*x organs of a jumping spider are how we determine gender.
A female up until sub adult will not show any signs yet of her epigyum forming AKA epi.
This is found on the underside of a female jumper. Below her book lungs.
Sub adult females epigyum will be flat and matte black. A mature females epi will be shiny and resemble a belly button. Her pedipalps will be more thin than a males once s*x organs begin to form. Up until, no factor in determining gender.
The male jumping spider however can begin to form his s*x organs called Palpal bulbs located on the last segment of his pedipalps earlier in life than a female usually does.
Often times at instar 8 you can begin to see his โbulbsโ forming when looking on an angle or from underneath his pedipalps.
The colors of a jumper and or chelicerae colors (fangs) do not guarantee the gender of a jumping spider. Both can and do change over the spiders series of molting. Female jumpers can have green or blue chels with pink or purple chels possibly changing to green or blue and or vice versa.
White phased males can be very light in tones but by sub adult or maturity turn dark grey or black. Often times resembling female until s*x organs begin to form.
A female white phased can go dark to light and back to dark again. She can go light to dark and back to light again. She also can go light and stay light tones or go dark and stay darker tones. As a white phase breeder the last year and half, I have seen all mentioned.
I hope this helps you in determining age of your jumping spider.
A breeder or one who raises from a gravid female should be including the spoods hatch date and stage of life when you adopt.
This is in helping you to keep stages of life accurate including birthdate.
The spoods last molt date should always also be included in an adoption.

๐ณ๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐
I made this guide last September for my group. Iโve helped many members and non members be successful at hatching green and blue bottle with house flies over a year. I hope we are able to help your journey in hatching flies also.
Green and blue bottles arrive in larvae form AKA spikes.
It can take 4-20 days from pupae (not larvae) to fly. Always give yourself a window of time and keep making new containers.
House flies usually arrive in pupae form already.
This is just how I do it. There are a few ways to go about hatching flies. I make sure to switch out the lightly damp paper towel daily until they begin to hatch. Then remove flies and repeat steps.
I also mist one side of the container every other day once I see pupae are turning dark dark brown.
In my experience and many batches later hatching flies these are pointers I learned:
1. Make sure the pupae are dark enough before adding to a lightly damp paper towel in a well ventilated container.
2. Not all will complete their cycle before passing so add extras.
3. Keep in a warm spot in your house. I do some under my led lights in my spood loft with most on a top shelf in my laundry room. Have kids so my dryer is always going.
4. They need humidity to hatch and complete the cycle. The lightly damp paper towel they sit in provides this. Will pass if they dry out.
5. Often times it will be past the 10 day mark once they hatch.
6. Do not count days until in pupae form. Day 1 is first day of pupae and so on.
7. I have found once in pupae form, they wonโt last long in the fridge if not pulled to hatch.
The 3-4 weeks longevity in fridge is in spike form only. I have better luck with newer spike orders hatching than ones that have been in my fridge a while.
8. Once they hatch add to something you can feed honey, bee pollen or reptile jelly and mist a wall for flies to drink. In my experience they will last up to 7 days if given food and water.
As I hatch over 100 flies a week, itโs easiest for me and provides less time of flies into the fridge to put to sleep before feedings.
My final step is I now move to individual deli cups once they hatch and add a dot of organic honey or bee pollen on bottom lid. See set up videos by searching bb flies in my fb group.
9. Add lots of ventilation to body and top of each deli cup.
Hope this helps.
Remember jumpers are a spider still and any spider will prefer a fly over anything else. Some jumpers both genders will starve themselves waiting on a fly. Not to scare but to educate.
Resources where I get as credit should always be given.
Best place to get blue bottle spikes is our friend Brad over at Big Fat Phids.
Best place to get house flies is Spider Pharm.
2 of the only places Iโve ever seen green bottles at are Mantisplace and Joshโs Frogs.
Cycle chart is from Rose Pest.
Please kindly note, flying flies cannot be sh1pped. Give yourself a window to get some practice in hatching.
Donโt get discouraged. Itโs a harder feeder to get down but by far the most rewarding hunt and catch for a jumper. Never gets old watching.
It is a myth that only male jumpers will begin to reject other feeders besides a fly. I experience it just as often with females โผ๏ธ
I made a few set up videos after this also. Search blue bottles in my facebook group Spood Oddities Facebook Group up top.
My friend and customer Sara Czukal McBride has also made a tutorial on another way to hatch and graciously has shared it in my group recently. Iโm adding the link here also

Those that make their ff cultures and use premade media. For either Joshโs Frogs media or Repashy, do you still add a little white vinegar and cinnamon?
I used to use Neherpโs premade media and it always called for white vinegar but other mediaโs donโt ๐ค
Teeny bit Cinnamon was added to help keep smelling fresh

ISO a captive bred mature white phase boy that has fairly recently matured.
Boy has to be above average sized for my girls to accept. My girls are big girls.
Itโs important to me that the boy has been bred not one raised from a Gravid female.
If you know someone who has, please message me only.
No small or just average sized. Zero luck in the past pairing my Banshee and Wednesday girls with that size male. Throw the boys off, ignore or run over. No sub adults or younger. Have that covered ๐
My Current dads will not dance again. No luck with my other boys either.
Thanks a bunch. Reach out via message only please.
Attempted pairing live today around 4:30pm EST. Sorry didnโt have enough time before I get my kiddos from school. Pairing times can be 10 seconds up to 4 hrs. See ya soon

Both can be any variation of light to dark tones and some in between.
The true colors of a female are shown at maturity.
I get a ton of messages asking for โa white spiderโ. Yes that would be wonderful if I could guarantee tones but itโs impossible and we do not adopt out mature females. Jumping spiders do not have morphโs.
At about a Instar 8, some females will begin to present very light to light shades. This can change over the next series of molts until maturity possibly going dark her final molt and or she goes even lighter.
A female showing darker tones at a instar 8 has very high chances of also being very light at maturity.
This can happen at sub adult also.
Drastic or subtle changes happen with each molt in a femaleโs tones. Often times drastic.
The spood can do a complete 360 the next molt and flip back the following. Iโve seen very few stay the same in tones from i8 to maturity.
We feel this is such a cool trait and a big part of the reason I breed these species. A new spider in looks each molt.
A recessive male will look almost identical to a very light female around i7 or i8. You canโt count on chel colors to determine s*x as Iโve seen green go purple and purple go blue.
We have had a few blue chel and green chel female white phases.
A recessive male cannot be gendered until s*x organs begin to form. All males that carry the recessive gene, will turn dark grey or black by maturity.
Many of these lineages show a rose gold to army green on angles color chel before s*x organs begin to form. Chel colors do NOT determine gender and can change as the spood sheds their entire exoskeleton including the outer chel which is where the pigment is.
I can however guarantee a happy, healthy, loved and friendly jumper from us that has been handled many times.
As a parent of these lineages, you have to be ok with the element of surprise. I cannot tell you that your female will be light or dark at maturity.
Both to me and all the in between are beautiful.
I can however guarantee a happy, healthy, loved and friendly jumper from us that has been handled many times.

Added this to one of my Facebook groups and felt I should also add here to the FB page ๐ค
This was discussed via message with a customer and brought up a great point that I will be adding to my care guide found in our main group.
When taking into account the size of an enclosure, you need to consider both overall usable space both inside and overall dimensions.
Although you may use substrate and it removes an inch or two of usable space within, it still is the same height.
Hope that makes sense???
Example: A tarantula cribs 4x4x6 using an inch or two of substrate, still is 6 inches tall overall in height from the ground. The usable space inside smaller but itโs still the factor of overall size per stage of life in enclosure sizes.
To a jumper, height is a huge factor as they spend most of their time on the top 30%.
A inch to us no big deal but to a captive bred jumper it can be a make it or break so to speak in thriving.
Thriving is a spood being active, finding feeders easily, not sitting in a hammock all the time between molting. Overall a happy spood. A happy Spood Oddities spood will want to come out and play. I work very hard with each in handling.
Not thriving can be sitting in a hammock all the time, almost frozen is a term used when the spood just sits there, not finding feeders easily, doesnโt want to interact with you.
Iโm here to help however I can with my Spoods before and after a ad0ption ๐ค

I have what may seem like a strange question.
I need help on this bad and fast.
Does anyone have an enclosure 4x4x4, preferably dura mesh or tight mesh grommet style that has a good amount of silk and a good hammock made you are willing to s3ll me?
In return on top of paY1ng for, you will be guaranteed a baby if this mom lays.
Time is of the essence regarding this.
I apologize for being so vague but for now, I have to.
Sh0p that makes my preferred blank is Big Fat Phids but Iโm more than happy to take any that fits in what I need.
I donโt care about what decor is.
Example of what I mean ๐๐๐
Canโt be over 4x4x4 and I need the grommet style with dura or tight mesh.
Please message if you do. Tia
I feel like this millstone should be celebrated ๐
When we get to 10k followers, I will be doing a g1veAwAY.
I will figure out how to run this differently as the last was a mess. I did my best to make up for it with credits on future spoods of ours in my last Spoodaffle as a surprise after.
